This week on Bagels and Blessings

This Saturday, December 31st, on the popular Messianic Jewish radio program Bagels and Blessings Ethel Chadwick, there will be a pre-recorded interview with Robin Barbosa. The show airs at 2:00 pm (EST) in the Rochester, New York area and can be heard online.

Robin Barbosa was born in the Northeast United States and had a traditionally Jewish upbringing. She grew up in a Jewish neighborhood in the Bronx, New York. A college graduate with a Master’s Degree in the field of education, Robin has been awarded a Doctor of Naturopathy Diploma in the field of health consulting.

Robin is a Messianic Jew, a member of Christ Celebration Center in northern New Jersey. She is active in children’s ministry and has written children’s stories as a hobby. She is also a member of the International Cultic Studies Association (ICSA). The release of her book "I Am Revealed, Behind the Ashram Door" has been featured on the ICSA Member Updates.

People need to read this story as it gives an insider’s perspective taking us inside the ashram, inside the cult and inside the reality of mind-control and what is actually at stake.

What is it like being in a cult? Robin’s objective is to tell her story while making a contribution to the field of cult awareness and provide a warning for anyone who may already be experiencing, or has experienced the effect of coercive persuasion, or for anyone considering involvement without realizing what is happening or bound to happen. It has the potential of being a powerful support for a person in any one of these categories, as well as the professionals working in the field of cult awareness.

This Week on Bagels and Blessings

The popular Messianic Jewish radio program Bagels and Blessings will be welcoming special guest Gillian Mayer on air Saturday, April 2nd.

Gillian grew up in a Conservative Jewish household in Coney Island, New York. She remembers, v aery early, seeing flyers posted under the elevated train lines that said Jews For Jesus and asking her mother what those meant. She was very sternly told “that those were not for us” and it was never discussed again.

Gillian’s family weren't particularly observant, but they were Jewish! Family gathered for all holidays and there was some semblance of ritual, yet they never attended Shul. She was given the choice of Hebrew lessons or music lessons and the obvious choice for her was music. Gillian didn't really know what being a Bat Mitzvah meant, but it sounded boring and she was going to be a musician.

Her parents decided to move to Houston, Texas, so off they went. Leaving their extended family behind, they also left what little observance they still enjoyed behind. There were still holiday dinners, but they weren't the same. Her father refused to join any of the synagogues here because he believed that all they wanted was his money. She did manage to fall in with a Jewish crowd and assumed that she would marry a Jewish man, but when Gillian met the man she was to marry, he wasn't Jewish.

They married and everything was okay until they had children. They had agreed that they would teach them everything, but something in Gillian changed. Her children were not setting foot in a church. Through a friend, they learned about a congregation where Jewish people and gentile people worshipped together… She agreed to go.

At first, Gillian thought these people were all nuts. There was a band and dancing, but God knew what He was doing. She was being drawn in by the music and found herself singing along, but when we came to "that word" I would skip it. She started reading my husband's Bible and thought they were nice stories. That changed to she supposed this could be true and finally to how could this not be true. Gillian was thirty years old when she realized that this Name that she had seen on a flyer as a child was, in fact, for her.
