ANNUAL HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY BEGINS IN ISRAEL: The official Opening Ceremony for Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Day took place on Sunday 23 April 2017, at 8pm at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem. Dignitaries spoke, and six Holocaust survivors lit torches in memory of the 6 million Jews murdered by the Nazis. The "Holocaust" refers to the period from 30 January 1933, when Hitler became Chancellor of Germany, to 8 May 1945, the end of the war in Europe. Millions of Jewish men, women and children were murdered by Hitler and his brutal cohorts during this time. While it is impossible to ascertain the exact number of Jewish victims six million is the round figure. Auschwitz concentration camp was a network of concentration and death camps built and operated by the Third Reich in Polish areas annexed by Nazi Germany during World War II. Buchenwald was a German Nazi concentration camp established near Weimar, Germany, in July 1937, one of the first and largest of the concentration camps on German soil. It was in holes such as these that Jewish victims were starved, tortured, subjected to slave labor, beatings, inhumane medical experiments and murdered in gas chambers by the millions. Elderly Holocaust survivors in Israel suffer mental and physical torments to this day. Their children bear traumatic scars as a result of being raised by such emotionally and physically shattered parents. (JNN/Ynet) Pray that this deeply needy and still emotionally-tormented segment of Israel’s society will be comforted, cheered and receive provision so desperately needed to live and finish their lives with dignity and honor.

COMPTROLLER: STATE OVERLOOKING HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS: State Comptroller Yosef Shapira days ago published a special report prior to Holocaust Remembrance day on the matter of state assistance to Holocaust survivors. Shapira said that at present there are 158,000 Israeli citizens eligible for benefits as sufferers of Nazi persecution as well as 56,000 more citizens who suffered anti-Semitic and racist attacks during World War II. Their average age is 85 and every month about 1000 of them pass away. The report stated that the legislation applying to survivors is complex and changes from time to time in a disorganized fashion. Most of the survivors do not know how to search for information on the Internet and are not proficient in Hebrew and therefore do not understand their rights. Most of the Holocaust survivors who arrived in the 90s from the former Soviet republic do not have pensions or any other economic base besides minimal government allocations. This sector, representing a quarter of Holocaust survivors, is not heard from and they live in poverty. Many of the aging survivors require help as their residences are not suitable for them in their present state. The Authority has no comprehensive data about the places of residence of the survivors and doesn’t know how many are waiting for public housing. The comptroller also touched upon other issues, including the need to establish proper social infrastructure for Holocaust survivors as well as providing welfare services, health care and social activities which could mitigate the loneliness suffered by many survivors. The comptroller concluded that despite the fact that governmental and non-governmental sources are working to fill the gaps in various aspects of life for which survivors require assistance, there is a need for a guiding hand from above for all of the activities and this must be provided immediately. (Arutz-7)

ALLIED FORCES KNEW ABOUT THE HOLOCAUST TWO YEARS BEFORE DISCOVERY OF CONCENTRATION CAMPS, SECRET DOCUMENTS REVEAL: The Allied Powers were aware of the scale of the Jewish Holocaust two-and-a-half years earlier than is generally assumed, and had even prepared war crimes indictments against Adolf Hitler and his top Nazi commanders. Newly accessed material from the UN - not seen for 70 years - shows that as early as December 1942, the USA, UK and Soviet governments were aware that at least two million Jews had been murdered and a further five million were at risk of being killed. Despite this, the Allied Powers did very little to try and rescue or provide sanctuary to those in mortal danger. Professor Dan Plesch of SOAS University of London, author of the newly published Human Rights After Hitler, said the major powers began drawing up war crimes charges based on witness testimony smuggled from the camps and from the resistance movements in various countries occupied by the Nazis. "The major powers commented on the mass murder of Jews two-and-a-half years before it is generally assumed, in December 1942." In that same month, UK Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden told the British parliament: "The German authorities, not content with denying to persons of Jewish race in all the territories over which their barbarous rule extends, the most elementary human rights, are now carrying into effect Hitler's oft-repeated intention to exterminate the Jewish people." YALE TO GIVE GANDHI PEACE AWARD TO BDS FOUNDER: Yale University will grant the Gandhi Peace Award to BDS founder Omar Barghouti. Barghouti has justified acts of terrorism against Israelis, defending the Palestinians’ right to "resistance by any means, including armed resistance." His supporters claim that the BDS movement seeks a peaceful solution. However, Barghoti says "Israel has no right to exist" and denies that Jews are the aboriginal people of their country. He also denies the Jewish people have a right to self-determination. They are not a people, he declaimed, and the UN’s principle of the right to self-determination applies only to colonized people who want to acquire their rights. While Barghouti insists Palestinians must have "the right to have rights," he denies the Jewish people have any collective rights. Another lie spread by Barghouti is that Israeli soldiers shoot Palestinian children "for sport," claiming they "provoke" the children, "entice them like mice, and then shoot them" for no reason. Often, it is just because the soldiers are "bored." In fact, the IDF is the most humane army in the world, often passing up opportunities to kill wanted terrorists in order to prevent innocent victims from being injured or killed. Additionally, IDF staff often do "random" acts of kindness towards Israel's sworn enemies. Barghouti also claimed there were Jews in the government of Nazi Germany, and that Israel steals Palestinian water. Israel actually gives Palestinians 30% more water than it agreed to give in the Oslo Accords. (INN) Pray according to scripture: “Deliver my soul, O Lord from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue,” Ps 120:2.

NETANYAHU: PALESTINIANS MUST PROVE THEY WANT PEACE: Israel’s PM Netanyahu said on 20 April 2017 that if the Palestinians truly desire peace with Israel, they must first "come clean" and put an end to "rewarding terrorism." During a interview with Fox News television host Sean Hannity, Netanyahu claimed that the Palestinian Authority, lead by Mahmoud Abbas, has spent much of the financial aid they receive on paying terrorist and their families at the expense of the American tax-payer. "I think the first test of peace is to say to them, 'Hey, you want peace? Prove it. Confront terrorism, stop rewarding terrorism, stop paying terrorists,'" Netanyahu said from his office in Jerusalem. "It could be more than a billion dollars that are given to terrorists," Netanyahu continued. "I'm not talking about Hamas. I'm talking about the mainline Palestinian Authority headed by president Mahmoud Abbas, who is going to see USA President Trump in Washington." Since the mid-1990s, the USA has donated more than $5 billion "in bilateral economic and non-lethal security assistance to the Palestinians," with $327.6 million coming in aid last year, according to the USA Congressional Research Service, a public policy research arm of the United States Congress. It is unclear how much of that aid has been used to make payments to terrorists, but according to the official daily newspaper of the Palestinian National Authority, Al-Hayat al-Jadida, as of 2011 over 4,500 Palestinian prisoners receive a monthly salary between NIS 2,400 ($652) to NIS 12,000 ($3260). (Fox)

STOP SUPPORTING PALESTINIAN TERROR: Since the "Middle East Peace Process" began in 1993 with the Oslo Accords, the USA has permitted the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Palestinian Authority (PA) to get away with fostering, celebrating, and honoring murder. It's time to end this scandalous American policy and insist that the Palestinians meet standards we would apply to any other aid recipients anywhere else in the world. Palestinian official bodies celebrate those who kill Israelis by naming streets, schools, and parks after them. The message to young Palestinians is clear: This is the behavior we honor and these are the models you should follow. Moreover, the PA and PLO pay money to those who commit crimes of violence against Israelis - and the greater the crime, the more you get paid. There is a sliding scale, and the longer your sentence, the higher the stipend. Issa Abed Rabbo, who shot to death two Hebrew University students he found hiking, and Abu-Musa Atia, who used an axe to murder Isaac Rotenberg, an elderly Holocaust survivor, are getting $3,500 a month.

There is growing support in Congress for the Taylor Force Act, named after an American student and USA Army veteran who was murdered last year by a Palestinian terrorist. It would restrict funds "available for assistance for Judea & Samaria and Gaza" unless the president certified that the PA was "taking credible steps to end acts of violence against Israeli citizens" and that it had "terminated payments for acts of terrorism against Israeli citizens." There will never be peace if generation after generation of Palestinian youth are reared to honor terrorists. The greatest barrier to peace is a Palestinian political culture that elevates violence against Israelis above any positive achievements. Perhaps a majority of Palestinians would rather forgo the assistance than stop honoring terrorists like Taylor Force's killer as "martyrs." But we will have taken a stand; we will have made it clear that we find such conduct intolerable. (National Review)

REPORT: ISRAEL STRUCK GOVERNMENT ARMY BASES IN SYRIA: Arab media on Sunday morning 23 April 2017, reported that Israel struck a military base under the control of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's forces. According to Al Mayadeen TV, three people were killed and two were injured in the attack. On Friday 21 April 2017, just before the Sabbath, air raid sirens sounded in various locations in Israel's Golan, and shortly thereafter two mortar shells were found in Israeli territory. No one was injured and no damage was caused. In an earlier air strike on Friday, a mortar shell was found in an open area in the northern Golan Heights. The IDF attacked the Syrian sites from which the mortars were fired. The incident is the latest example of the Syrian war spilling over into northern Israel. JNN News Update April 20, 2017

PALESTINIANS IN ISRAELI JAILS BEGIN HUNGER STRIKE: Over 1,500 Palestinians held in eight Israeli jails on security offenses - out of a total of 6,500 Palestinians incarcerated in Israeli prisons on terrorist related charges - have entered into a hunger strike. The leadership of the strike is being credited to Marwan Barghouti, the popular head of the Fatah Tanzim, who is serving five consecutive life sentences for terrorist murders. Barghouti is often mentioned prominently in lists of possible successors to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, who is now 82. The purpose of the strike is ostensibly to protest prison conditions, to receive more visitation time with family and to end detention without trial, but a number of observers see the effort as part of a Barghouti run for PA leadership. Israeli officials were livid with the NY Times after it published an op-ed by Barghouti on 16 April 2017 in synch with the start of the strike and omitting any reference to his incarceration being the result of multiple murder convictions. After an uproar broke out, the newspaper finally published a tepid clarification in which it stated that “This article explained the writer’s prison sentence but neglected to provide sufficient context by stating the offenses of which he was convicted. They were five counts of murder and membership in a terrorist organization. Barghouti declined to offer a defense at his trial and refused to recognize the Israeli court’s jurisdiction and legitimacy.”

Israeli Minister of Public Security Gilad Erdan said he believes the strike is politically motivated and that the prisoners have no legitimate complaints. "These are terrorists and incarcerated murderers who are getting exactly what the international law requires," he told Israel's Army Radio. “There is no reason to give them additional conditions in addition to what they already receive." Erdan said Barghouti was transferred to another prison in northern Israel and was placed in solitary confinement. "It doesn't have to do with publishing the article in the New York Times but rather that he is instigating mutiny and leading the hunger strike and that is a severe violation of the rules of the prison," he said. (Medialine/AP/Ha’aretz) The timing is no accident, as Barghouti leads an organized Palestinian prisoners’ hunger strike meant to draw public attention and portray terrorists as political prisoners held by Israel to stifle Palestinian aspirations. And the New York Times has gone along with this charade by giving Barghouti a prime-time billing.

PM NETANYAHU, ISRAELI POLITICIANS ACROSS THE POLITICAL SPECTRUM, SLAM NY TIMES FOR BARGHOUTI OP-ED: Calling imprisoned Fatah terrorist Marwan Barghouti a Palestinian leader and parliamentarian is like calling Syrian President Assad a pediatrician, Israeli PM Netanyahu stated on Tues. 18 April 2017. "These are murderers, these are terrorists and we will not lose clarity.” The prime minister added that "this moral clarity, the willingness to protect our land, to fight for it against those coming to wipe us out, is one of our great strengths, together with love of Israel. Love of Israel expresses itself in this munificence, in this beauty and warmth. We will continue to develop our country and protect it." Israeli politicians from across the political spectrum fiercely condemned The NY Times on Mon. 17 April 2017 for publishing an op-ed by Barghouti that neglected to mention that he is in prison for murder, not his political views. Barghouti was convicted in June 2004 of five murders and an attempted murder, including that of a Greek Orthodox priest he mistook for a rabbi. He was sentenced to five consecutive life sentences and 40 additional years in prison. But the newspaper’s tagline on the article called him a Palestinian leader and parliamentarian.

Deputy Minister Michael Oren compared Barghouti to Dylann Roof, an American mass murderer and white supremacist convicted of killing nine people in the June 2015 Charleston church shooting. “Shame on NYT for printing libelous op-ed by convicted killer Barghouti, the Palestinian Dylann Roof,” Oren wrote on Twitter. “Americans would be horrified. So are we.” Bayit Yehudi chairman Naftali Bennett posted on Facebook a picture of Yoela Chen, a mother of two who was murdered at a gas station on her way to a wedding by terrorists under orders from Barghouti. Bennett noted that as the commander of Fatah’s Tanzim paramilitary offshoot, Barghouti was behind the murders of dozens of Israelis. “Barghouti is not just an enemy,” Bennett wrote. “He is a lowly murderer who should rot in prison until the day he dies.” (J.Post)

HOTOVELY: NY TIMES HAS PROVIDED A PLATFORM FOR TERRORISTS: Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely responded to the publication of Marwan Barghouti's article in the NY Times by saying, "Barghouti is not a prisoner. He is a convicted murderer and a terrorist. The New York Times has provided a platform for a terrorist without noting that he planned and carried out the cold blooded murder of Jews simply for having been Jews." She concluded, "This is not a matter of freedom of speech. It is anarchy. When a major newspaper with a reputation for responsible journalism becomes a platform for murderers, it provides legitimacy for terrorism. This is a very disappointing decision by the editors which seriously undermines the credibility of the New York Times." (INN)

ISRAELI MK AND LEADER OF THE YESH ATID PARTY, YAIR LAPID, CONDEMNS THE NY TIMES: Marwan Barghouti doesn’t only believe in violence, he also believes that it’s permissible to lie. He believes in the approach, which typifies terror organizations, that the West is weak and naïve and so our media and good intentions should be cynically abused to attack us from within. The attempt by the New York Times “to be balanced” amuses Barghouti. He understands that this sacred attempt at balance creates equal standing between murderer and murdered, terrorist and victim, lie and truth. So Barghouti tells horror stories about torture he underwent during Israeli investigations. There is no factual basis for these stories. The torture he describes is prohibited under Israeli law and even Israel’s greatest opponents must acknowledge that we abide by our laws. The reality is that a convicted terrorist is inventing stories about those who imprison him, as prisoners do all over the world, including in the United States. Instead of saying to him – as a responsible newspaper should – that if he doesn’t have a shred of evidence to support his stories then they can’t be published, the NY Times published them in its opinion pages and didn’t even bother to explain that the author is a convicted murderer of the worst kind. (Honest Reporting)

‘I WILL NOT FORGET THE JOY WHEN BARGHOUTI WAS ARRESTED’: Uri Schechter, IDF Lieutenant Colonel in the reserves and Deputy Commander of the Nahal Brigade, wrote in his Facebook account about the capture of terrorist chief Marwan Barghouti in Operation Defensive Shield. Barghouti is now leading the hunger strike of terrorists imprisoned in Israeli jails. Shechter wrote: "Exactly 15 years ago, I was drafted as a deputy battalion commander for Operation Defensive Shield, which we commenced following the murder of hundreds of Jews and the wounding of thousands," recalls Schechter. "During the operation, my brigade occupied the city of Ramallah, where we arrested about 700 terrorists. "I will not forget the joy when the Duvedevan undercover unit arrested the head of the serpent, Marwan Barghouti, who was responsible for a large part of the attacks directly. We felt at that defining moment that the operation had achieved its goal." According to him, Barghouti "got off cheap" and was convicted in the District Court for five life sentences and 40 years in prison. "So how does he become legitimate to some people and politicians? I just don't understand. I wish the despicable murderer to go with his hunger strike to the very end," wrote Schechter. (Arutz-7)

NYT PUBLIC EDITOR CHIDES FAILURE TO IDENTIFY AUTHOR AS MURDERER: The Public Editor of the NY Times took the newspaper to task for failing to identify Palestinian Authority leader Marwan Barghouti as a convicted murderer of Israeli Jews. Public Editor Liz Spayd was responding to criticism of the newspaper for publishing on 16 April 2017 an Op-Ed by Barghouti titled “Why We Are on Hunger Strike in Israel’s Prisons” and identifying him only as “a Palestinian leader and parliamentarian.” Nearly a day later, an editor’s note appended to the end of the opinion piece clarified that Barghouti is serving a lengthy prison term after being convicted in an Israeli court of five counts of murder and membership in a terrorist organization. Failure to “more fully identify the biography and credentials of authors, especially details that help people make judgments about the opinions they’re reading,” Spayd wrote, “risks the credibility of the author and the Op-Ed pages.” The newspaper was slammed by Israeli leaders and USA Jewish groups for its failure to mention Barghouti’s terrorist activities and conviction for murder. (Arutz-7)

NO BARGHOUTI OPTION: In fact, the real impetus for the hunger strike seems not to be about prisoners’ rights at all, but rather it is a political initiative designed to promote Marwan Barghouti. When security prisoners go on a hunger strike, they are usually motivated by discontent with their incarceration. Ostensibly, a demand for improved conditions is what sparked the open-ended hunger strike launched by convicted Palestinian terrorists being held in Israeli prisons for murder or other forms of violence or support for violence. Judging from their demands – public phones in the security wards, reinstating a second visiting period each month and restarting academic studies programs so that prisoners can receive academic degrees – the situation is not all that bad. These prisoners might not be able to earn advanced degrees or use the phone whenever they want to and they might have to wait a month to meet loved ones. But it is doubtful that terrorists held in Gouantanamo Bay, in European prisons or in those of democratic countries in the Far East receive any better conditions – particularly not terrorists who murdered innocent civilians.

In fact, the real impetus for the hunger strike seems not to be about prisoners’ rights at all, but rather it is a political initiative designed to promote Marwan Barghouti, probably the single most popular Palestinian political leader despite his sentencing 15 years ago for five life terms for murder plus another 40 years. In a March 2017 survey conducted by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Research, Barghouti garnered more support than any other Palestinian presidential candidate. In a standoff against Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, the second most popular candidate, Barghouti received 59% of the vote. Barghouti is a savvy political manipulator who has managed to remain relevant despite his incarceration a decade and a half ago. He is using the Palestinian prisoners as his latest ploy for self-advancement. It is depressing that a man like Barghouti, with the blood of so many victims on his hands, has consistently been the most popular candidate to lead the Palestinian people. And it is not despite his murderously violent past, but precisely because of it, that Barghouti is able to beat a Hamas candidate for the Palestinian vote. This is the sad state of radicalized Palestinian politics that is the real obstacle to peace. (J.Post) Intercede that Barghouti’s political manipulations will not succeed. Pray that the present hunger strike on the part of jailed Palestinian terrorists will fizzle out rather than achieving the strike’s objective to again cast Palestinian murderers as being the victims of alleged Israeli injustice - rather than the other way around.

RECORD-BREAKING NUMBER OF TOURISTS ENTER ISRAEL IN THE FIRST QUARTER OF 2017: A record-breaking 739,000 tourists entered Israel in the first quarter of 2017, adding 5,000 new jobs and injecting 4 billion shekels ($1 billion) into the country's economy. According to new data from price comparison site HotelsCombined, there was a 157% increase in hotel bookings from Hong Kong compared to last year. Hotel bookings by Italians were up 139%, South Africans 134%, South Koreans 116% and Finns 116%. The site noted that bookings by both Spaniards and Austrians increased 78% and that Turkish bookings increased 12% compared to last year. The sharp increase in tourism comes despite the strengthening shekel, which serves to make Israel an especially expensive tourist destination, financial daily Globes reported. (Israel Ha’yom) “Behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people; But the Lord will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you. The Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.” Isa. 60: 2-3

50,000 TOURISTS AND ONE MARRIAGE PROPOSAL: The Samaria Regional Council reported its feeling of satisfaction after two days filled with various festivals and holiday events in honor of Passover's intermediate days. Over 50,000 visitors flocked to Samaria, flying kites at Mount Gerizim's national park, "meeting" King Herod in the national park in ancient Samaria, hiking on "Israel's porch" and tasting wine at prize-winning Samaria wineries. On Thurs. 13 April 2017, Israeli musician Ariel Zilber gave a musical performance, and thousands of people visited tourist sites in northern Samaria, and participated in the spring celebrations marking 50 years since the liberation of the Dotan Valley where the Bible relates that the young Joseph looked for his brothers. Among the visitors was David Shapira, who proposed to his girlfriend Racheli at the Tura Winery in the town of Rehelim. Samaria Regional Council Head Yossi Dagan said, "The growth of Samaria's tourism industry is nothing less than a renaissance. Every year, the number of visitors to Samaria grows. We've had visitors from France, China, Canada, and all over Israel. They all come to enjoy the unique tourist sites in Samaria. It's a feast for the eyes to see them." (Arutz-7)

ISRAELI MIRACLE SURGERY HELPS CHILD HEAR FOR THE FIRST TIME: For the first time in Israel, Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek Medical Center performed an advanced brainstem implant. The patient was a five-year-old boy born deaf because he lacked an auditory nerve, the hospital announced on 14 April 2017. Prof. Thomas Roland, head of the department of otolaryngology, and colleagues at New York University Langone Medical Center came especially from Manhattan to help perform the unusual operation with Shaare Zedek ear-nose-and-throat surgeons, neurosurgeons and speech therapists. Since the development of cochlear implants, the number of deaf people in the world has declined significantly, and in most cases, the implant connects well with the auditory nerve and allows the deaf to hear. The implant is particularly successful in babies who were born deaf and are transplanted at an early age. It is also performed in adults who had normal hearing in the past but became deaf for various reasons. The operation was successful, and after the placement of the implant, appropriate electrical responses were received. The boy recovered well and was released home. The doctors who participated are very optimistic that the child’s ability to speak and communicate with his surroundings will improve over time. (J.Post)

BRITISH WOMAN KILLED, 2 OTHERS WOUNDED IN JERUSALEM TERRORIST STABBING: A young British woman visiting Israel was killed on Friday 14 April 2017, and two Israelis were wounded in a stabbing attack by a Palestinian Arab terrorist aboard Jerusalem’s light rail. As the commuter train passed through the center of Jerusalem, the terrorist began stabbing the 25-year-old British woman multiple times in the upper body. Off-duty police officers and civilians were quick to react and wrestled the terrorist to the ground. An older Israeli man hurt his leg while trying to flee the scene, and a pregnant woman riding the train suffered light abdominal injuries when it came to a sudden emergency stop. The terrorist was identified as a 57-year-old Palestinian Arab from a nearby village. (Israel Today) Continue to pray against terrorist attacks in and around Israel’s capital city, Jerusalem. WHY DOES ISRAEL NEED TO PREPARE FOR ANOTHER WAR WITH HAMAS THIS SUMMER? Israel Construction and Housing Minister Yoav Gallant on Sunday morning 16 April 2017, said there will be no choice other than to enter another war with Hamas. He warned Israelis to prepare for such a conflict during the coming summer. Why does the Hamas terrorist organization, which rules the Gaza Strip, keep engaging Israel in hopeless wars every few years? Part of the answer perhaps lies in the word “hudna.” It is an Arabic expression often translated as “cease-fire", which has little to do with establishing peace with one’s neighbor. Historically it was a strategy which allowed the party declaring the hudna to regroup and rearm, while the enemy was off-guard. The term comes from the story of the Muslim conquest of Mecca. Unable to carry off an immediate victory, Muhammad made a ten-year treaty with the Kuraysh tribe. In 628 AD, after only two years of the “ten-year treaty”, Muhammad and his forces reasoned the Kuraysh were too weak to resist. The Muslims broke the truce and took over all of Mecca without opposition. According to Umdat as-Salik, a medieval summary of Shafi'i jurisprudence: “If Muslims are weak, a truce may be made for ten years if necessary, for the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) made a truce with the Kuraysh for that long, as is related by Abu Dawud.” ('Umdat as-Salik, o9.16). The condition for Muslims making a truce with its enemy is weakness. Hamas is weak and always looking for ways to regroup and once again become strong to the detriment of Israel. Terrorist leaders reigning in Gaza admittedly are not looking for peace with the Jewish state - rather to destroy it. Even an extended “cease-fire,” means only time enough to dig new terrorist tunnels and build up the arsenals against Israel – all in preparation to again “shoot oneself in the foot” and stumble around for the next half decade. (JNN)

6,500 SECURITY-RELATED PRISONERS ARE SITTING IN ISRAELI JAILS: With "Palestinian Prisoners' Day" on 17 April 2017, the Association for Prisoners and Freed Prisoners, and the Central Statistics Office provided statistics on the number of security-related prisoners sitting in Israeli jails. According to the statistics, Israeli jails house 6,500 security-related prisoners, among them 57 women and 300 minors. Since 28 September 2000, when the Second Intifada began, nearly 100,000 Palestinian Arabs were arrested, among them 1,500 minors and 70 Palestinian Authority officials and former officials. In addition, 27,000 administrative detention orders were issued. All of these prisoners were involved in terror attacks, either directly murdering innocent civilians, attempting to murder innocent civilians, or aiding and abetting direct murderers. Their numbers are a testament to the unchanged desire of Palestinian Arabs to kill Israeli Jews and to their undying hope of wiping Israel off the map. 44 of the prisoners have spent more than 20 years in jail, and 29 of those were arrested before the Oslo Accords, now admittedly a failure, were signed in 1993. Nearly 500 prisoners are under administrative arrest. Arab organizations claim 210 terrorists died during their stay in Israeli jails.

The Palestinian Authority pays a monthly salary to terrorists. This salary rises with each year the terrorists spend in jail and is in proportion to the violence of the crime. The terrorists also receive a grant from the PA upon their release from prison. Arab terrorists have said they enjoyed a life of ease in Israeli prisons, with officials admitting that various perks are given to the terrorists in an attempt to prevent rioting. Terrorists once could pursue an academic degree during their terms in Israeli prisons. Although this is now against the law, academic studies have continued. In 2011, it was revealed that the terrorist prisoners' favorite course was "Genocide". (Arutz-7)

HALF OF RELEASED PALESTINIAN PRISONERS HAVE RETURNED TO TERRORISM: Mazen Fuqha, the Hamas official killed in late March 2017 in Gaza, planned to turn this year’s Passover holiday into a bloodbath for Israelis. Fuqha, who was released as part of the 2011 Shalit prisoner exchange, headed Hamas' "West Bank headquarters" and was responsible for establishing a number of terrorist cells across Judea & Samaria. Israeli defense officials believe the Passover attacks planned by Hamas would have include the abduction of an Israeli soldier or civilian, in order to force Israel to release hundreds of Palestinian security prisoners not included in the Shalit deal. Fuqha was sentenced to life in prison and an additional 50 years for planning a suicide bombing on a bus in northern Israel in 2002, where nine Israelis were killed. But in 2011, Fuqaha was released from prison as part of a prisoner exchange deal to free Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. The Shalit deal saw the release of 1,027 prisoners collectively responsible for the murder of 569 Israelis. This infused Hamas' leadership with new blood, including its new leader, Yahya Sinwar. Defense officials today believe that 50% of those released in 2011 are currently involved in terrorist activity. (JNN/Israel Hayom) Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas even this month told USA President Trump that there will be no peace talks “without a complete settlement freeze in Judea & Samaria and east Jerusalem” and “a limited release of prisoners serving time in Israeli jails for terrorism.” Hundreds of terrorists have been released over the years from Israeli jails in good will gestures to PA President Abbas and the Palestinian Authority. Each prisoner, upon release, signed a vow to cease acts of violence against the Jewish State. Weeks later, even days later, many released prisoners were again implicated in terrorist attacks or plots against the Jewish state. Intercede that these unreasonable conditions on the part of the PA will never again be agreed upon by the Israeli government.

IRAN’S AHMADINEJAD IN BID TO RECLAIM PRESIDENCY: Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the former Iranian president who was a disruptive figure both in and out of office, and who was told by the Ayatollah himself not to run for office, has decided to make a run for his old office and challenge incumbent Hassan Rouhami for the presidency. When Ahmadinejad ran for re-election in 2009, his victory was questioned and triggered riots in the streets that resulted in deaths and mass imprisonment of opponents. On the world front, the former president was known for making outlandish threats against Israel and the United States including predictions that the Jewish state will cease to exist within a short period of time. Regarding the Supreme Ruler’s well-known position on his run for the presidency, Ahmadinejad dismissed the comments as a “suggestion” rather than an edict. All citizens wishing to run for office are signing up with the Guardian Council which is responsible for vetting the names and promulgating a candidate list. Women who sign up to run for office – and a number have already done so – are typically dropped from the Guardian Council’s final list. (Medialine)

SRAELI START-UP EXTRACTING WATER FROM AIR, AROUND THE WORLD: From the remote corners of India to the palm-lined streets of Miami-Dade County, one Israeli company is aiming to do the unthinkable – extract safe, inexpensive potable water from the air we breathe. “We created a product that can really be the next source of drinking water,” Maxim Pasik, executive chairman of Rishon Lezion-based Water Gen, told Israeli media sources on 13 April 2017. Water Gen made headlines at the AIPAC Policy Conference in Washington two weeks ago, when Prof. Alan Dershowitz presented the company’s GENius device, generating water out of thin air on stage. Just days earlier, the company had signed a memorandum of understanding to install its technology in Vietnam’s capital city, while days later, the firm inked another memorandum with India’s Vikram Solar Pvt. Ltd., to deploy solar powered Water Gen units in remote parts of the subcontinent. “All these countries that have the water shortages have a humid and hot climate,” Pasik said. “We take all the humidity from the air and extract the water.”

The memorandum of understanding signed with the Hanoi Department of Construction calls for the construction of a Water Gen factory, to produce industrial-scale water generators for the municipality, with a total capacity of up to 10,000 liters of water per day. “Our solution is 20 times cheaper than the solution for drinking water that they have,” Pasik said. “And what they drink is not healthy.” Yet Water Gen’s reach is by no means limited to the developing world. The products have recently generated interested in several Gulf countries, in Egypt, in Mexico and across the United States, Pasik said. In the USA, Water Gen is operating a pilot study in Miami-Dade County and is in talks with various entities in California, Chicago and Michigan, he added. Pasik said that in the future, technologies like Water Gen’s devices will have the capacity to prevent wars and foster peace, in regions where people are fighting for access to clean water. Gen 12:2 ISRAELIS SPEND 3.77 BILLION NIS ON PRE- PASSOVER CREDIT PURCHASES: Data from the automated bank services company which operates the central clearing system for Israeli credit cards has revealed that in the week before Passover Israelis spent some 830 million shekels on credit card transactions in food chains. This represents a 9.28% reduction compared with the same pre-Passover period in 2016 in which 915 million shekels were spent. The entire credit card purchase sum in all branches during the week preceding Passover was 3.77 billion NIS, as opposed to 3.73 billion NIS in the corresponding period last year - a rise of 0.9%. The heaviest volume of transactions fell on the Friday before Passover, with 495,000 transactions completed in the hour between 10 A.M. and 11 A.M. (Arutz-7) The exchange rate in Israel, if anyone wants to do the math, is 3.65 NIS to the USA dollar. Suffice it to say, 3.77 billion NIS, (close to a billion dollars), is a lot of groceries and goods!

FIRST –EVER VISIT TO ISRAEL BY INDIAN PRIME MINISTER SET FOR EARLY JULY: Indian PM Narendra Modi’s long-awaited visit to Israel will take place on 5-6 July 2017. According to the Hindustan Times, Modi will come to Israel – a first-ever visit by an India prime minister – on his way to take part in the G-20 Summit in Hamburg on 7- 8 July. The paper reported that G. Mohan Kumar, India’s defense secretary – which is the equivalent in Israel to the Defense Ministry’s director-general – will visit as well in late April 2017, for a working group meeting on military cooperation that will help prepare for Modi’s visit. Modi, in a break from previous high profile visits to Israel by senior Indian officials, is not expected to visit the Palestinian Authority. According to the report in the Hindustan Times, “though Israel is among the top four military hardware suppliers to India, with more than $1 billion in annual sales to New Delhi, the Modi government is keen to ensure that this visit is not focused on defense ties alone, but encompasses long-term economic and technological cooperation, resulting in a free-trade agreement.” The paper said that Modi’s visit will “be an open acknowledgment of India’s close ties with the Jewish state, and also pave the way for transfer of high-end agricultural technologies that will benefit Indian farmers.” In Feb. 2017 Modi approved a $2.5 billion missile deal with Israel. USA DROPS LARGEST CONVENTIONAL BOMB ON ISIS FORCES IN AFGHANISTAN: American forces in Afghanistan dropped a 22,000-pound GBU-43 bomb on ISIS forces in eastern Afghanistan on Thur. 13 April 2017, the Pentagon announced. A spokesman for USA forces in Afghanistan said ISIS in Afghanistan had lost more than half its territory and had 800 fighters spread between two provinces. At the group's height in Afghanistan, it had more than 3,000 fighters. The USA has 8,500 troops in Afghanistan, and has carried out more than 400 airstrikes on ISIS since the start of the year. There are also about 7,000 NATO troops in the country. As many as 36 suspected ISIS terrorists were killed in Thursday’ s USA attack. USA President Trump lauded the mission and said he had authorized the military to act. “If you look at what’s happened over the last eight weeks and compare that to what’s happened over the past eight years, you’ll see there’s a tremendous difference,” Trump said. Asked if the bombing sent a message to North Korea, Trump was unusually equivocal. “I don’t know if this sends a message. It doesn’t make any difference if it does or not. North Korea is a problem, the problem will be taken care of,” he said. White House spokesman Sean Spicer said the military took all precautions to prevent civilian casualties. “The United States takes the fight against ISIS very seriously, and in order to defeat the group, we must deny them operational space, which we did,” Spicer said. REPORT: HEZBOLLAH EVACUATING POSITIONS NEAR ISRAEL’S GOLAN HEIGHTS: Hezbollah forces have begun to evacuate territory near Syria's Golan region, not far from the Israeli border, after the USA State Department demanded that the Lebanese terror organization immediately leave the area, Syrian news agency Al-Ittihad reported on 13 April 2017. The report added that Hezbollah fighters began clearing their stronghold in the Qalamun Mountains nearly a week before the USA military conducted airstrikes against Syrian President Assad's air force on 6 April 2017. Al-Ittihad did not say why the terrorists left their positions on the eastern Syrian border region. According to the Syrian publication, at least 300 Hezbollah fighters have abandoned 14 positions in the Quneitra area, which sits in near proximity to Israel's Golan territory. The terrorists left with tanks, armored vehicles and heavy weapons as they made their way toward the Syrian capital of Damascus. USA State Department spokesman Mark Toner on 11 April 2017 addressed the threat the terrorist organization poses against the United States and its allies, demanding that they withdraw their forces and refrain carrying "on military operations in Syria in support of the Assad regime. Hezbollah forces have helped the Syrian government implement its brutality against its own people and also caused instability in Lebanon," Toner added. (J. Post)

TRUMP REVOKES OBAMA’S PARTING GIFT TO PLANNED PARENTHOOD: States in the USA will once again be able to defund Planned Parenthood after President Trump overturned an 11th-hour Obama administration regulation protecting funding for the nation's biggest abortion provider. Trump signed into law on Thurs.13 April, a bill reversing a Department of Health and Human Services regulation signed in Dec. 2017 that prevented states from blocking funding for Planned Parenthood. Obama's regulation reversed the policies of more than a dozen states that had prevented federal Medicaid dollars or other federal reimbursements from going to clinics that perform abortions. Trump signed the legislation one month after he said that he would continue to direct taxpayer dollars to Planned Parenthood if it stopped performing abortions. The organization performs more than 300,000 abortions each year - about one-third of the national total. The Trump administration’s resolution is considered part of a larger Republican-led effort to defund Planned Parenthood. The American Health Care Act called for partially slashing funds dedicated to the group, which is criticized by for providing abortion services. USA DOCTOR CHARGED WITH GENITAL MUTILATION PROCEDURE ON GIRLS AGED SIX TO EIGHT: A USA doctor in Detroit has been arrested and charged with carrying out female genital mutilation on girls aged six to eight, prosecutors said on Thur. 13 April 2017. Emergency room doctor Jumana Nagarwala, 44, of Northville Michigan, is accused of carrying out the widely condemned practice - illegal in the United States - for 12 years from a medical office in Livonia, Michigan. She appeared in a USA federal court in Detroit on Thurs. If convicted at trial she faces a maximum sentence of life behind bars. Congress passed a law in 1996 making it illegal to perform genital mutilation or cutting in the United States on anyone under the age of 18. Twenty-five USA states also have laws prohibiting the practice. Prosecutors in Michigan say they believe it is the first case of its kind brought under the federal law. Some of Nagarwala’s victims traveled from outside Michigan and were told not to talk about the procedure, prosecutors said. “Dr Nagarwala is alleged to have performed horrifying acts of brutality on the most vulnerable victims,” said acting Assistant Attorney General Kenneth Blanco. “The Department of Justice is committed to stopping female genital mutilation in this country, and will use the full power of the law to ensure that no girls suffer such physical and emotional abuse.” (Times of Israel)

ANTI-SEMITISM SHARPLY INCREASED ON SEVERAL COLLEGE CAMPUSES IN 2016: A pro-Israel organization has released a report that finds anti-Semitism sharply increased on several college campuses in 2016. The report from the AMCHA Initiative shows that anti-Semitic activity skyrocketed by 40 percent last year at the college and university campuses with the largest number of Jewish students. Tammi Rossman Benjamin with the AMCHA Initiative wasn’t surprised by the finding. “I guess it’s not surprising because of the current climate in the country in general – but surprising to find it on campus and not necessarily from the traditional, classic anti-Semitic sources,” she shares. According to the report, while the number of anti-Semitic incidents increased, the total number of schools affected did not – “indicating that a select number of schools are experiencing surges” in such activity. The report identifies seven schools having the largest increase in anti-Semitic activity over the last year: Columbia University, Vassar College, New York University, University of Chicago, University of Wisconsin Madison, University of Minnesota and Ohio State University . (GOP-USA) Pray for the protection of Jewish students studying on USA university campuses, and that anti-Semitic acts and incitement will be severely penalized - including financial fines and expulsion for perpetrators.

PALESTINIAN AUTHORITY DEFIES USA, WILL RAISE PAYMENTS TO SUICIDE BOMBERS' FAMILIES: In defiance of the USA, which is demanding that the Palestinian Authority completely stop financial rewards to families of terrorist “Martyrs” (Shahids), the PA is now raising the payments to the “Martyrs'” families. These PA payments include lifetime monthly allowances to families of suicide bombers, and other murderers who were killed during or after committing their crimes. After years of international condemnation of the PA, the United States Congress recently proposed The Taylor Force Act to cut off financial aid to the Palestinian Authority because of these payments to terrorists and their families. When Taylor Force, an American citizen, was murdered last year in Tel Aviv, American legislators were incensed to learn that the family members of the dead terrorist would be rewarded with lifetime payments - thus benefiting from American financial aid. Similar legislation was proposed in the Israeli parliament last month, to deduct the equivalent amount that the PA pays to terrorists and their families from the tax revenues that Israel collects on the PA’s behalf. The fallacy and the fantasy of the peace process fiction writers and the two-staters continue to explode in the face of reality and the religious motive behind the jihad against the Jews. (Geller Report) Intercede that this defiant move on the part of the Palestinian Authority will be severely penalized by withdrawal of all financial aid that comes from Western governments and their taxpayers.

PEACE NOT ON RADICAL ISLAM’S AGENDA: While absence of war is the dream of Western civilization, some creeds and religions are more interested in conquest and rule than they are in neighborly co-operation. While not giving up the dream of peace, it seems important to face the fact that Islamists do not have peace in mind in their ideologies and strategies concerning Israel or the West. Such peace, in fact, conflicts with the very root doctrines and laws of Islam: Sharia law, according to Islam, is the legal code ordained by Allah for all mankind. To violate Sharia or not to accept its authority is to commit rebellion against Allah, which Allah's faithful are required to combat. There is no separation between the religious and the political in Islam; rather Islam and Sharia constitute a comprehensive means of ordering society at every level. The stoning of adulterers, execution of apostates and blasphemers, subjugation of women, repression of other religions, and a mandatory hostility toward non-Islamic nations punctuated by regular warfare is the norm. Islamists have stated their hate ideologies and destructive goals loud and clear, privately and publicly. They have underscored their intentions toward Israel and the West with blood, suicide and the sacrifice of their own children to such creeds. Anyone who wishes to deny or even debate these statements must willfully blind and deafen themselves to the quotes, history, actions and patterns of a great bulk of Islamic representatives whether they be religious, political, military, or educational. (JNN) Intercede that Israel’s national leaders will never be coerced again into starting a false peace process with those who attempt to delude no one in their ultimate intentions to destroy the Jewish state. Israel has been pressured time and again by global entities into submitting to building freezes and the release of terrorist prisoners serving time in Israel jails - just to get the game of pretend peace going once again. May we not have to go around this mountain of lies once again.

NEW BOARD GAME IN GAZA BASED ON SNAKES AND LADDERS SEEKS TO ‘STRENGTHEN LOVE OF JIHAD’: A new board game called “Reaching Jerusalem” has been launched in Gaza, the goal of which is “to strengthen the love of jihad among children,” according to the founder of the game. The game is essentially a remake of the classic children’s game “Snakes and Ladders.” The objective is for players to advance on squares until they reach Jerusalem. The "ladders" that bring the players closer to the finish line are tunnels and Hamas-manufactured rockets, whereas the "snakes" that hinder their progress are IDF tanks and helicopters. The board is sprinkled with illustrations of Hamas fighters lying in wait for the enemy, attacking, and crawling through tunnels. During the course of the game, players stop off in cities found within the 1948 borders of Israel recognized by the UN, such as Tiberias, Ashdod, Akko, Haifa, Yaffo and Tzfat, where Arabs as well as Jews lived before the founding of Israel in 1948 and to where many of them demand to return and succeed in eliminating the Jewish presence.

Muhammad Ramadan Al-Amriti, who works at the Hamas Interior Ministry said, “The game 'Reaching Jerusalem' is an important component in the correct upbringing of our children in the near future. We created this game so that children do not forget their cities of origin, and also in order to strengthen the children's love of jihad. The goal of the game is to teach children that return to the homeland will be achieved only through resistance and jihad." He said that another purpose of the game is to help produce future leaders and decision-makers raised on the principles of the Islamic faith. 10,000 copies of the game have already been made, soon to be available in stores. (INN) “Their works are works of iniquity, and the act of violence is in their hands. Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood. Their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths. The way of peace they have not known, and there is no justice in their ways.”

PIERS MORGAN: ISIS WAR ON CHRISTIANITY ‘OUGHT TO BE DOMINATING CABLE NEWS’: Well known British journalist and television personality Piers Morgan, on 10 April 2017 criticized the American media for paying more attention to isolated terrorist attacks in Europe while ignoring the ISIS ongoing war on Christianity in the Middle East. Morgan lamented that “a handful of people being killed” in recent terrorist attacks in Stockholm and London have gotten “huge attention” in America, while coverage of suicide bombings on two Coptic Christian churches that killed dozens in Egypt on Palm Sunday 2017 appeared to be an afterthought. “And yet, what happened in Egypt was unbelievably significant,” Morgan said. “If you look at what ISIS really stands for, what they are carrying out now in the Middle East and in Egypt in particular, is a genocidal attack on Christians. They want Christianity eradicated, and they want to convert all Muslims to their crusade,” he said. “They want it to be a holy war. And they want Christians gone. And I don’t think that narrative is getting the attention it should get in the American media and, I have to say, in other media as well around the world.” (Washington Times) Urgent is the need for ongoing intercession for the plight of persecuted Christians in Islamist countries. Please pray for their cause to be taken up by the nations in terms of granting aid, justice and protection. Intercede for courage and comfort to be granted to those who suffer.

TRUMP: VLADIMIR PUTIN IS BACKING A TRULY ‘EVIL’ PERSON IN BASHAR ASSAD: “Putin is backing a person that’s truly an evil person and I think it’s very bad for Russia. I think it’s very bad for mankind,” USA President Trump said in a 12 April 2017 interview on Fox Business Network. “It’s very bad for this world. I think aligning yourself with Assad is a big mistake because he’s a butcher, and I think it’s very bad for Russia,” he said. “We’re not going into Syria, but I see people using horrible, horrible chemical weapons - which they agreed not to use under the Obama administration - but they violated it,” Trump said. “What I did should have been done by the Obama administration a long time before I did it. I think Syria would be a lot better off right now than it has been,” said Trump. (Washington Times)

REX TILLERSON: ASSAD ERA IS COMING TO AN END: USA Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on 11 April 2017, stated that Russia can either join the USA, or continue to side with Syrian President Assad, his Iranian allies, and terrorist group, Hezbollah. Tillerson said at a meeting of G-7 foreign ministers in Lucca, Italy, "We want to relieve the suffering of the Syrian people. Chemical weapons stockpiles and their continued use demonstrate that Russia has failed in its responsibility to deliver on its 2013 commitment. It is unclear whether Russia failed to take this obligation seriously or has been incompetent, but this distinction doesn't much matter to the dead." Speaking about the future, Tillerson said, "Russia can be a part of that future and play an important role. Or Russia can maintain its alliance with this group, which is not going to serve Russia’s interests longer-term. It is clear to all of us that the reign of the Assad family is coming to an end. But the question of how it ends, and the transition itself, could be very important to the durability and stability inside of a unified Syria. That’s why we are not presupposing how that occurs," he added. Attending the G-7 conference were foreign ministers from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the United States, as well as Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates. Vladimir Putin said the following day that trust had eroded between the USA and Russia under President Trump, as Moscow delivered an unusually hostile reception to Secretary of State Tillerson in a face-off over Syria. Russian hopes that the Trump administration would herald less confrontational relations were reportedly dashed last week after the USA President ordered missiles to be fired at Syria to punish Moscow's ally for its use of poison gas. RUSSIA KNEW OF SYRIAN CHEMICAL ATTACK IN ADVANCE: A senior USA official, who demanded anonymity says the USA has concluded that Russia knew in advance of Syria's chemical weapons attack last week. The source says a Russian-operated drone flew over a hospital in Syria as victims of the attack were rushing to get treatment. Hours after the drone left, a Russian-made fighter jet bombed the hospital in what American officials believe was an attempt to cover up the usage of chemical weapons. Until 10 April 2017, USA officials had said they weren't sure if the drone was operated by Russia or Syria. The senior government source said it still wasn't clear who was flying the jet that bombed the hospital. He claimed that the presence of the drone couldn't have been a coincidence, and that Russia must have known the chemical weapons attack was coming and that victims were seeking treatment. (Fox)

A SWEDISH START-UP HAS STARTED IMPLANTING MICROCHIPS INTO ITS EMPLOYEES: Swedish startup hub Epicenter routinely offers to implant its workers and startup members with microchips the size of grains of rice that function as swipe cards: to open doors, operate printers, or buy smoothies with a wave of the hand. Ben Libberton, a microbiologist at Stockholm's Karolinska Institute, says hackers could conceivably gain huge swathes of information from embedded microchips. The ethical dilemmas will become bigger the more sophisticated the microchips become. "The data that you could possibly get from a chip that is embedded in your body is a lot different from the data that you can get from a smartphone," he says. "Conceptually you could get data about your health, you could get data about your whereabouts, how often you're working, how long you're working, if you're taking toilet breaks and things like that." Libberton said that if such data is collected, the big question remains of what happens to it, who uses it, and for what purpose. So far, Epicenter's group of cyborgs doesn't seem too concerned. The implants have become so popular that Epicenter workers stage monthly events where attendees have the option of being "chipped" for free. "You can do airline fares with it, you can also go to your local gym, so it basically replaces a lot of things you have other communication devices for, whether it be credit cards, or keys, or things like that. Chips can also be programmed to hold contact information and talk to smartphone apps," said Epicenter co-founder Patrick Mesterton. (CNBC)

Handwriting analysis of 2,600-year-old Hebrew texts indicate literacy in Kingdom of Judah widespread before exile, suggesting seminal text could have been written then

www.timesofisrael.com   April 12, 2017

High-tech handwriting analysis of First Temple period writings inscribed on pottery shards indicates the Bible may have been written earlier than some scholars believe, Tel Aviv University researchers have found.

Most scholars agree that key biblical texts were written in the 6th century BCE, during the Babylonian exile after the destruction of the First Temple.

But a collection of military orders written in ancient Hebrew dated to the end of the First Temple period uncovered in the Negev Desert is shedding new light on the age of the oldest biblical texts.

EXPECTING ISIS ATTACK, ISRAEL CLOSES TABA CROSSING INTO EGYPT IN UNUSUAL MOVE: In a highly irregular move, the Transportation Ministry shut down the Taba Crossing to Israelis trying to enter Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula on Monday 10 April 2017, citing fears of an imminent terror attack by ISIS. It is expected to reopen on 18 April 2017, with the end of the Passover holiday, but that decision will only be made following a security assessment, the Ministry said. Israelis currently in the Sinai Peninsula will still be able to return from Egypt and are, in fact, encouraged to do so immediately. Thousands of Israelis were expected to cross into the Sinai Peninsula for the Passover holiday. The decision to forbid that move comes a day after two lethal attacks on Egyptian churches by the ISIS terrorist group’s so-called Sinai Province. The closure was ordered by Transportation and Intelligence Minister Yisrael Katz, after discussion with Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman and other security officials. “This was an intelligence-security decision that was made in light of information that indicated plans to carry out a terror attack against tourists by the ISIS group’s Sinai Province,” Katz said. This was one of the few times the Taba Crossing was shut down since its opening in 1982, following the Israeli-Egyptian peace deal. The crossing was shut down in 2014, following a terror attack on the Egyptian side of the border. It was also closed in 2011 when Israel also assessed there was a high risk of terror attacks. (Times of Israel) Pray that Israelis vacationing in the Sinai will heed well-base Intelligence warnings to leave immediately. Often such alerts are ignored.

ROCKET ATTACKS SINAI ESHKOL REGION: A rocket fired from Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula struck a greenhouse in southern Israel on Monday morning 10 April 2017, police said. Though no one was injured by the rocket, a 50-year-old man who was nearby when it landed suffered an anxiety attack as a result of the assault. The plastic sheeting that served as the roof the greenhouse was damaged, but the structure remained standing. Just after 11:30 a.m., the incoming missile alarm known as a “Code Red” sounded in the Eshkol region, near Israel’s westernmost tip, at the border with Egypt and the Gaza Strip. After a search of the area, police found the rocket in the community of Yuval, near the Egyptian border, in a greenhouse where tomatoes were being grown. According to the IDF, the rocket was fired from the Sinai Peninsula, presumably by the ISIS terrorist group’s affiliate there. The attack came hours after Israel shut down the Taba Crossing into the Sinai Peninsula, citing information about an imminent terror attack in the area. (Times of Israel) Once again we call upon our intercessors to pray against terrorist attacks and violence against Israelis and tourists during the vulnerable week of Passover.

AL-SISI DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi on Sunday 9 April 2017, declared a three-month state of emergency following the two deadly bombings on Coptic churches. "A series of steps will be taken, most importantly, a state of emergency for three months," Sisi said in a speech aired on state television. Sisi also announced establishing a new council for combating terrorism and extremism. At least 44 people were killed in the two explosions on Sunday. The first explosion occurred in a church in Tanta, Egypt, when a terrorist blew himself up during a Palm Sunday ceremony. Less than 12 hours later, a second explosion occurred in an Alexandria, Egypt church. The ISIS jihadist group claimed responsibility for the two explosions. In late February 2017 ISIS issued a video message vowing to target Christians, particularly in Egypt, saying Christians were their “favorite prey”, while showing footage of a previous church bombing. (Arutz-7)

UN CONDEMNS EGYPT CHURCH ATTACKS: The UN Security Council on 9 April 2017, condemned the bombings of two Coptic Christian churches in Egypt, calling the attacks “heinous” and “cowardly”. In a statement, the council urged all member states to cooperate with the Egyptian government in bringing to justice the perpetrators of the attacks, which were claimed by ISIS. “They expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and to the government of Egypt and they wished a speedy and full recovery to those who were injured,” the statement said. “The members of the Security Council reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security,” it added. (INN) A TIMELINE OF RECENT ATTACKS ON EGYPT’S CHRISTIANS: Sunday's 9 April 2017, bombings of two Coptic churches in separate cities claimed by ISIS are the latest attacks on Egypt's embattled Christian minority, increasingly targeted by ISIS and affiliated terrorists. The Copts have long been a favored target of extremists but the past five months been particularly brutal. USA-based think tank the Tahrir Institute for Middle East Policy said the attacks brought the total number of incidents against Copts to 26 in 2017, with a total of 88 killed including those at a major church bombing in Dec. 2016. Following are major attacks against Egypt's Coptic Christians over the past year: 9 April 2017: Twin bombings hit churches in the coastal city of Alexandria and the Nile Delta city of Tanta. At least 43 people were killed and scores of worshipers injured on the Palm Sunday attack.

Feb. 2017: Hundreds of Egyptian Christians flee their homes in the northern part of the Sinai Peninsula, fearing attacks by ISIS terrorists. The group's North Sinai affiliate had killed at least seven Coptic Christians in the restive peninsula in less than a month. The ISIS group's affiliate in Egypt releases a video vowing to step up attacks against the Christian minority, describing them as their "favorite prey." It showcased a Dec. 2016 attack on the church adjacent to Cairo's Saint Mark's Cathedral, which claimed the lives of 30 worshipers. December 2016: A bombing at a chapel adjacent to Egypt's main Coptic Christian cathedral in Cairo claimed by ISIS kills 30 people and injuries dozens during Sunday Mass in one of the deadliest attacks carried out against the religious minority in recent memory. The high death toll serves as a grim reminder of the difficulties of Egypt's struggle to restore security and stability after nearly six years of turmoil. July 2016: Pope Tawadros II says that since 2013 there were 37 sectarian attacks on Christians in Egypt, nearly one incident a month. A Muslim mob stabs 27-year old Coptic Christian Fam Khalaf to death in the southern City of Minya over a personal feud. NETANYAHU LOBBYING FOR SYRIAN BUFFER ZONE AS RUSSIA REINFORCES SUPPORT FOR ASSAD: Israeli PM Netanyahu is lobbying for the creation of a secure buffer zone between Israel, Jordan and Syria as part of any future resolution to end the six-year Syrian Civil War. Netanyahu addressed the issue in recent talks with USA administration officials, as a means of maintaining regional stability by keeping Iran’s forces and the Iranian-sponsored terror group Hezbollah at a safe distance from Israeli territory. The prime minister insisted on the creation of a buffer zone on the Syrian side of the border, secured by forces other than those from the Jewish state. Netanyahu’s lobbying for the buffer zone comes after President Donald Trump’s surprise military strike on a Syrian airbase in response to the Assad regime’s chemical attack earlier this month, the latter killing at least 86 Syrians. Netanyahu expressed Israel’s full support for the USA strike. USA Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said on 9 April, 2017 that pushing Iranian influence out of Syria and removing Assad are now top priorities for the Trump administration. A coalition of Russian, Iranian and pro-Iranian forces loyal to Assad said that the USA strike crossed “red lines,” and that the coalition members would respond to any new aggression and increase their support for Assad’s regime. (Algemeiner)

‘WE NEED ANOTHER 100,000 SETTLERS IN THE GOLAN’: Transportation and Intelligence Minister Yisrael Katz (Likud) spoke on 9 April 2017, about USA President Donald Trump's recent actions in Syria. Katz praised last week’s air strike as "moral and logical" and said it serves as a warning to Hezbollah and Iranian leadership. According to Katz, the strike shows a change in American policy, since former President Barack Obama left Israel to deal with evil on its own. The recent USA air strikes show this policy has changed. Katz also said the new policy would prevent Iran's military intelligence and expansion, both of which have cost Israel economically by forcing the country to invest resources into dealing with them. Israel must show its determination to keep control of the Golan Heights by sending another 100,000 citizens to settle it more efficiently, he concluded. (Arutz-7) About 47,000 people live on the Golan today, and how many of them are Jewish depends on which official body you ask. According to 2016 statistics, the spokeswoman for the Golan Regional Council said 25,200 Jews live in the area. But the Central Bureau of Statistics claimed Jews number 20,500. In any case, the statistics bureau says the Golan has the lowest population density of any region in Israel – 40 residents per square kilometer – even lower than in the Be’er Sheva-centered Southern District. The region, overlooking northern Israel and southern Syria, is strategic to the security of the Jewish state as it enables Israel to monitor Syrian movements. From 1948-67, when Syria controlled the Golan Heights, it used the area as a military stronghold from which its troops persistently sniped at Israeli civilians in the Hula Valley below, forcing children living on kibbutzim to sleep in bomb shelters. In addition, many roads in northern Israel could be crossed only after probing by mine-detection vehicles. Israel repeatedly, and unsuccessfully, protested the Syrian bombardments to the UN Mixed Armistice Commission, which was charged with policing the cease-fire, but nothing was done to stop Syria's aggression. Meanwhile, Israel was condemned by the UN when it retaliated. Pray for increased protection of Israel’s northern borders and steady population growth in this amazingly beautiful area.

VISION FOR ISRAEL 2017 PASSOVER GREETINGS: Passover, a seven day commemoration of the Jewish Exodus from Egypt, begins this year in Israel at sunset Monday, 10 April and concludes at nightfall on Monday 17 April. Families and friends across the country will gather in homes, halls and hotels to celebrate the annual Seder meal. Together the nation will recall in song and story the biblical deliverance, under the leadership of Moses, from the slave pits of Egypt, the ten plagues preceding it, and escapes from death because of the blood of the Passover lamb. Unleavened bread called matzos will be eaten throughout the holiday, and sweets made with matzo, corn and potato flour will accompany daily meals. Our Vision for Israel team extends warmest holiday greetings to our friends near and far. Please intercede throughout the week that this happy time will not be marred by terrorist attacks or Islamist violence against Israel. Pray that families and groups partaking of the Seder meal and recalling the exit from Egypt throughout the week will experience deeper revelations of the meaning of the Passover lamb.

RECORD-HIGH LEVELS OF TOURISM AS PASSOVER APPROACHES: According to the Israeli tourism ministry, Israel is seeing record-high levels in tourism on the eve of the Passover holiday. The ministry reported that in March 2017, 293,000 tourist entries were recorded - a 22% increase on March 2016. Similarly, in the three months January-March 2017, a record 739,000 tourist entries were recorded - a 24% increase on the same period last year. Tourism Minister Yariv Levin noted the developments, claiming that the record-high level of tourism was no accident. “For the past few consecutive months, we are witnessing record highs in incoming tourism and I am pleased that March is also a record month for tourist entries. This is not coincidence – this is a result of policy. We are implementing marketing activities and taking innovative steps to brand Israel and we are bringing new airlines and routes into the country – and all this is proving itself, month after month. This significant increase is making a significant contribution to the Israeli economy and to the labor market. Israel is an attractive and varied tourism destination and we are proving that if we work correctly, it is possible to bring tourists here. I am convinced that if we continue on this path, we will see significant increases in incoming tourism in the future.” (Arutz-7)

ISRAELI HOSPITALS TREAT THOUSANDS OF ARABS - WHERE’S THE MEDIA COVERAGE? No further evidence is necessary of the mainstream media’s anti-Israel bias than its total lack of coverage of the fact that Israeli hospitals routinely treat Arab patients from all over the Middle East. Instead, the media paints Israel as a bigoted society that only wishes ill on its Arab foes. A recent Israeli media report disclosed what’s going on at just one Israeli hospital. In cooperation with the Israeli NGO “Save a Child’s Heart,” Wolfson Medical Center in the central Israel town of Holon has treated thousands of Arabs in recent years. Most of the patients have been Palestinian Arab children in need of life-saving surgery, which is fully covered by “Save a Child’s Heart” and the Israeli taxpayers. Many other patients have come from war-torn Iraq. Others have from as far away as Afghanistan. In one instance, a princess from the emirate of Bahrain insisted on having critical surgery in Israel, insisting that only in the Jewish state would she receive the treatment needed to save her life. Isn’t that curious? After all, Israel’s antagonists suggest that an Arab who falls into the Jewish state’s hands is more likely than not to lose his life. They say Israel is a nation of “child-killers.” But here these Israelis are, not killing, but saving the lives of thousands of Arab children. And the media is silent. (Israel Today)

LIKUD MINISTER: ‘SYRIA STRIKE MADE USA REGIONAL LEADER ONCE AGAIN’: Adding to Israeli PM Netanyahu’s praises for the USA missile strikes on a Syrian army base, a senior cabinet minister said it “restored America’s regional leadership in a big way.” Yisrael Katz, Israel’s Transportation Minister and a member of the cabinet’s defense said, “There are things that only the number one superpower in the world can do.” In contrast to the failed policy of leading from behind, the United States has “restored America’s regional leadership in a big way in the Middle East.” Netanyahu praised President Donald Trump in a statement that said that Trump, “in both word and action,” had “sent a strong and clear message today that the use and spread of chemical weapons will not be tolerated. Israel fully supports President Trump’s decision.” Netanyahu added that he “hopes this message of resolve in the face of the Assad regime’s horrific actions will resonate not only in Damascus, but in Tehran, Pyongyang and elsewhere.” (JTA)

TRUMP EASED OBAMA’S FAILURE: In an article published on Israel Ha’yom's Hebrew website, Professor Eitan Gilboa said USA President Trump is changing America's foreign and security policy, especially when it comes to weapons of mass destruction: Trump said he would not tolerate the use of chemical weapons - and he didn't sit idly by when they were used, unlike his predecessor, Barack Obama - who made promises and then failed to fulfill them. Trump has erased Obama's failure, and set a new red line limiting the use of WMDs anywhere in the world. A few years late, Trump responded to Syrian President Assad's decision to cross several red lines. The USA attack was smart, fast, logical, and focused. It punished the site where the chemical weapons were launched from. Apparently, it was the result of efficient decision making, and the decision included several high-ranking and experienced generals. Despite the anti-Trump crowd's complaints that Trump acts hastily, this military strike was very well planned and careful. Trump sent a clear message to the international community in general, and to the Middle East in particular. Unlike Obama, who did not act as a leader of the free world, Trump did right and made order in the international community. Unlike Obama, who confused friends and enemies, Trump is rebuilding the USA' traditional ties and warning its enemies. Professor Gilboa is the head of the International Communications Center and a senior researcher at Bar Ilan University's Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Research. (Israel Ha’Yom)

WORLD LEADERS PRAISE STRIKE ON SYRIA, AS USA BRACES FOR RUSSIAN RESPONSE: A broad coalition of world leaders who for months criticized USA President Trump as an erratic force sang his praises over the weekend, grateful his administration chose to act where his predecessor would not in striking Syrian President Assad for his use of chemical weapons against innocents. But Russia, which remains Assad’s top patron and a critical player in the civil war against him, warned that USA action brought the two nuclear powers within “an inch” of war, and is said to be considering military steps that would escalate the conflict. Moscow says it will be increasing its missile and air defenses around Syria, suggesting that future USA strikes will not be tolerated. Russia also raised the specter of direct military confrontation with the USA. Stoking those fears, Moscow has officially shut down a “deconfliction” channel with Washington set up at Russia’s request in order to prevent midair clashes between Russian forces and USA-led coalition forces fighting ISIS. After an emergency defense intelligence briefing held for senators on Capitol Hill, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Connecticut) said there was reason for serious concern that Russia and Syria might retaliate against USA forces on the ground. “This move by Washington has dealt a serious blow to Russian- USA relations, which are already in a poor state,” President Vladimir Putin’s office said in a statement.” Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said that Trump’s actions “significantly increased” the chances of direct conflict. (J.Post) It is not an overstatement to say that the situation in and surrounding the Syrian conflict is like a skyscraper filled with highly explosive materials surrounded by firebrands. Intercede against chemical and bomb attacks on Syrian civilians, pray that Assad will be removed and replaced by leaders that are merciful and sane, that ISIS will be overcome, and that Russian and Iranian forces will return to their own borders. Pray also for the safety of Israel northern borders.

TRUMP'S UN ENVOY: OUSTER OF ASSAD IS A TOP USA PRIORITY: USA Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said in an interview that she sees regime change in Syria as one of the Trump administration's priorities in the country wracked by civil war. "Defeating ISIS, pushing Iranian influence out of Syria, and the ouster of Syrian President Assad are priorities for Washington," Haley said in a weekend interview on CNN’s State of the Union. "We don’t see a peaceful Syria with Assad in there," Haley said. The comments followed a USA hit on a Syrian air base with 59 Tomahawk missiles. The American assault early Friday 7 April 2017, was in retaliation for a chemical weapons attack by Assad's forces on Syrian civilians. Trump ordered the missile strike after watching television images of infants suffering from chemical weapons injuries. Syrian forces launched further airstrikes on Saturday that killed 18 people including five children in rebel-controlled Idlib province, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and the civil defense rescue service reported. (J.Post)

25 PEOPLE SAID KILLED IN BOMB ATTACK ON CHURCH IN EGYPT, 42 VICTIMS INJURED: A bomb blast killed as many as 25 people in a church in the Nile Delta on Sunday 9 April 2017. Dozens of people were also injured in the explosion. The bombing occurred near the St. George Coptic Church north of Cairo, as Coptic Christians were marking Palm Sunday. ISIS is believed to be the perpetrator of the bomb assault. ISIS’s branch in Egypt, which has waged a conflict for years in the Sinai peninsula, has stepped up attacks on Christians in Egypt in recent months. A suicide bombing at Cairo's largest Coptic cathedral killed at least 25 people and wounded 49 others in Dec. 2016. Many of the victims were women and children. ISIS later claimed responsibility for the attack. A shift in ISIS tactics from attacking soldiers and police to targeting Christian civilians has become a potential turning point in a country trying to halt a provincial insurgency from spiraling into wider sectarian bloodshed. (Ynet) Intercede for those who have lost loved ones in this latest barbaric attack on a Christian place of worship. Pray for the recovery of those who have been injured and for the protection of the Christian Coptic community in Egypt whose people have been increasingly victimized by Islamist violence.

JNN News Update April 7, 2017

JNN URGENT UPDATE: USA MISSILE ATTACKS ON SYRIAN AIRFIELD FOLLOWING SYRIAN GOVERNMENT CHEMICAL ATTACKS ON CIVILIANS AND CHILDREN: On Tues. 4 April 2017 as many as 100 people, including at least 11 children, died from suffocation and an estimated 557 people were incapacitated following a toxic gas attack prompted by Syrian government forces. The brutal assault happened in the town of Khan Sheikhoun in Syria. Syrian government or Russian jets pounded Khan Sheikhoun in the morning, and a rocket hit in the afternoon. The projectile struck a hospital, bringing down rubble on top of medics who were trying to help victims. Doctors treating victims at makeshift hospitals in the area say dozens of victims from Khan Sheikhoun showed signs of sarin poisoning, including foaming at the mouth, breathing difficulties and limp bodies. The death toll is likely to rise according to sources. In response to the chemical attack, five dozen American Tomahawk missiles were fired from the Mediterranean Sea at Syria's al-Shayrat airfield in the early hours of Friday morning, 7 April 2017. (J.Post) JNN editors will continue to keep readers updated on this Middle East turn of events. Please intercede for the innocent civilians, including many children, along with medical officials who have been incapacitated and injured in the latest brutal chemical attack on the part of the Syrian government. Pray for help, comfort and recovery.

TRUMP STRIKES ASSAD IN DRAMATIC TURNING POINT IN SYRIAN CIVIL WAR: Five dozen American Tomahawk missiles were fired from the Mediterranean Sea at Syria's al-Shayrat airfield on Friday morning, 7 April 2017, fundamentally changing the dynamics of Syria's protracted and bloody civil war. USA President Donald Trump ordered the Pentagon to strike an airbase that played host to the very planes which on Tues.4 April 2017, laid chemical siege to a civilian town in Idlib province, killing close to a hundred people and incapacitating an additional 557 victims. Trump's operation was an unprecedented American assault against the embattled government of Syrian President Assad. Trump was deeply disturbed by the images of innocent children killed in Assad's attack and was compelled to respond, he told the American people in an evening address. "Babies were cruelly murdered in this very barbaric attack. No child of God should ever suffer such horror," Trump said. "Tonight I ordered a targeted military strike on the airfield in Syria from where the chemical attack was launched. It is in this vital national security interest of the United States to prevent and deter the spread and use of deadly chemical weapons. Assad choked out the lives of helpless men, women and children," he said, withholding comment on his future plans to strike Assad.

Robert Satloff, executive director of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, said, "The most significant implication of tonight’s attack is that it signals a fundamental shift in USA policy from the Obama to the Trump administration. The White House did not seem interested in reaching some diplomatic resolution of this incident even using the threat of force to elicit some political gain but rather appeared committed to sending a message that such heinous behavior will be punished - unilaterally by USA action. This marks a huge course correction for USA policy toward Russia under the Trump administration," Satloff added, "and in terms of Iran, marks the first substantive example of the USA pushing back at Iran’s long reach for influence throughout the Middle East." (J.Post) Intercede that the USA’s message to Syria’s brutal regime will establish proof that harsh actions will taken against those perpetrating heinous acts of murder, torture, terrorism and mayhem in the Middle east. May Iran, the Hezbollah and all other terrorist entities take heed.

TRUMP: ‘ALL PREVIOUS ATTEMPTS TO CHANGE ASSAD’S BEHAVIOR HAVE FAILED’: "Numerous previous attempts at changing Syrian President Assad’s behavior have all failed dramatically. As a result, the refugee crisis continues to deepen and the region continues to destabilize, threatening the United States and its allies," USA President Trump said in a televised speech addressing the nation on America’s military strike on Syria. "Tonight I call on all civilized nations to join us in seeking to end the slaughter and bloodshed in Syrian and also to end terrorism of all kinds and all types. We asked for God’s wisdom as we face the challenge of our very troubled world." Trump consulted America's allies before conducting the strike, according to senior officials. Assad operates six airfields in the country, five of which remain operable after Friday's 7 April 2017 attack. This military development puts Assad’s regime in unexpected peril, dependent on Trump's next steps. Should Trump proceed with future strikes, he would be challenging both the Syrian regime as well as Moscow, which has invested significant resources in propping up Damascus. Trump may choose to proceed with additional attacks targeting more Syrian airfields, or may alternatively choose to escalate the conflict, targeting Syria's broader military infrastructure. (J.Post)

ISRAEL PRAISES USA MISSILE ATTACK ON SYRIA: Israel’s prime minister has welcomed the USA attack on a Syrian air base saying he “fully supports” President Trump’s decision. PM Netanyahu said on Friday 7 April 2017: “In both word and action Trump sent a strong and clear message that the use and spread of chemical weapons will not be tolerated.” Israel’s Channel 2 TV said Israel along with other allies was notified about the USA strike. The attacks in neighboring Syria have worried Israel, which has warned against “game-changing” weapons reaching Hezbollah in Lebanon from Syria, which supports the terrorist group. Last month Israel shot down an anti-aircraft missile fired at its planes as they struck a suspected Hezbollah weapons convoy. Israel also has treated several thousand Syrians wounded in fighting and provided humanitarian aid to some Syrian communities near the Israeli frontier in the Golan Heights. (Washington Times)

RUSSIA, IRAN CONDEMN USA AIR STRIKE IN SYRIA AS BRITAIN, TURKEY GIVE SUPPORT: Russia and Iran condemned a USA strike on a Syrian airbase on Friday 7 April 2017, as Australia, Britain and Turkey gave their support, with Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull calling it a "proportionate" response to the use of chemical weapons. Russian President Vladimir Putin claims the strikes broke international law and seriously damaged USA-Russia relations. Likewise Iran’s Foreign Ministry denounced what it called the “destructive and dangerous” strike. Meanwhile, Britain gave its backing to the USA strike: "The U.K. government fully supports the USA action, which we believe was an appropriate response to the barbaric chemical weapons attack launched by the Syrian regime and is intended to deter further attacks," a government spokesman said. Turkey viewed the strikes positively and Deputy PM Numan Kurtulmus said the international community should sustain its stance against the "barbarity" of the Syrian government. He added that Assad's government must be fully punished in the international arena and the peace process in Syria needed to be accelerated. French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault said Russia and Iran needed to understand that supporting Assad made no sense and that the escalation of the USA military role in Syria was a "warning" to "a criminal regime". (Reuters)

LIBERMAN: ‘THE CHEMICAL WEAPONS ATTACK WAS CARRIED OUT AT ASSAD’S BIDDING’: Israel's Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman addressed this week’s chemical weapons massacre in Syria’s Idlib province. Liberman said that “the murderous chemical weapons attacks on civilians in the Idlib region in Syria and on the local hospital were carried out by direct and premeditated order of Syrian President Bashar Assad, with Syrian planes. I say this with 100 percent certainty. The cruelest thing,” he added, “is that those who were evacuated from the area of the bombing to the hospital were struck a second time with chemical weapons as Syrian army planes attacked the hospital. Assad tried in the past to obtain nuclear weapons through North Korea, and the other ‘masters’ in the area like Hezbollah and Nasrallah are no different than he is.” Liberman added: “What we have here is people who are cannibals. When they ask me why there isn’t peace in the Middle East it’s like asking if a cannibal can be a vegetarian. The word ‘peace’ is not relevant to the Middle East. We can come to regional arrangements, but not to peace." (Arutz-7)

‘HOW MANY MORE CHILDREN HAVE TO DIE BEFORE RUSSIA CARES?’ USA Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley slammed Russia's continued support for Syrian President Assad at the UN Security Council on 5 April 2017, following chemical weapons attack in Syria. "Yesterday morning we awoke to pictures of children foaming at the mouth, suffering convulsions, being carried in the arms of desperate parents," Haley said in a speech to the Security Council. "We cannot close our eyes to these pictures, we cannot close our minds to the responsibility to act." She said that world powers had tried to hold the Assad regime responsible for its crimes against its own people, but Russia stood in the way of this accountability. "How many more children have to die before Russia cares?” she asked. She added that the failure to stop the carnage in Syria is an indictment of the failure of the UN to protect innocents. "There are times in the life of states that we are compelled to take our own action. We regularly repeat efforts in support of a peace process that is regularly undermined by the Assad regime,” she said. “If we’re not able to enforce resolutions preventing use of chemical weapons what does that say for our chance of ending the broader conflict in Syria? What does that say of our ability to bring relief to the Syrian people? If we are not able to enforce resolutions preventing the use of chemical weapons what does that say about our effectiveness in this institution?” (Arutz-7)

PENTAGON MEMO: SYRIA HAS ‘RIDICULOUSLY HUGE’ STOCKPILE OF SARIN GAS: Syria produced a “ridiculously huge amount” of deadly sarin gas, says an internal Defense Department memo written amid the Obama administration’s effort to remove and destroy all the country’s chemical weapons. That stockpile, which Obama aides declared was reduced to zero by summer 2014, is again in the headlines. President Trump on 5 April 2017, accused Syrian President Assad of once again committing mass murder against his own people by unleashing sarin gas on a town in Idlib province, killing dozens of innocents. His words raise the question, where did the sarin come from? An intelligence official said, that at this point, the USA does not know. “Our incompetence did not get all of Assad’s chemical weapons,” said James Dolbow, a former Republican Senate defense aide. It was Assad’s brutal use of sarin in August 2013 that prompted then president Obama to plan airstrikes on a wide number of Syrian military targets. The raids were averted when Russian President Vladimir Putin, an Assad protector, intervened and proposed that Syrian voluntarily give up its chemical weapons.

Meanwhile, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says Russia has “failed” in its responsibility to deliver on a 2013 commitment to secure Syria’s chemical weapons. Tillerson briefed reporters shortly after the USA launched cruise missiles against a Syrian air base in retaliation for a gruesome chemical weapons attack. The secretary says Russia has either been complicit or “simply incompetent” in failing to deliver on its end of the agreement. Tillerson will make the first visit to Russia by a Trump administration official just days after the USA launched cruise missiles against an air base in Syria, where Russia’s military is on the ground propping up its ally, President Bashar Assad. Until the 7 April 2017 attack, the USA had avoided striking Assad’s forces, largely out of concern about being pulled into a military conflict with Russia. Growing disagreements about Syria are just the latest obstacle to any plans President Trump had to closer align the USA and Russia on the world stage. (Washington Times) “Not a word from their mouth can be trusted; their heart is filled with malice. Their throat is an open grave; with their tongues they tell lies.” Ps. 5:9

JNN News Update April 6, 2017

ISRAEL DECLARES MULTILAYERED AIR DEFENSES FULLY OPERATIONAL: The David's Sling missile defense system became fully operational on Sunday 2 April 2017, completing Israel's multilayered air defenses amid tensions on its northern and southern borders. Developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and American defense giant Raytheon, David's Sling is designed to intercept medium- to long-range rockets and cruise missiles fired at ranges from 24.85 miles to 186.41 miles. It is part of Israel's four-tiered air defense system, alongside Iron Dome, designed to intercept and destroy short-range rockets and artillery shells, the Arrow 2 short- and medium-range ballistic missile interceptor, and the Arrow 3 long-range missile defense system. Speaking at the system's induction ceremony on Sunday, Netanyahu noted that defending the homefront was of the "utmost importance," and warned that "whoever seeks to strike us will be hit. We have pioneering technology, and Israel continues to lead the world in this field. The ingenuity of our people and the fighting spirit of our soldiers multiply our strength against our enemies and enable us not only to defend the homefront but to achieve victory in battle. But despite the importance that I attribute to our defensive capabilities, I reiterate: Whoever seeks to strike us will be hit. Anyone who threatens our existence places themselves in existential danger. This approach has ancient origins. Not far from here is the Elah Valley, where David defeated Goliath with his sling. King David defended the people of Israel against its enemies 3,000 years ago. He did so with a combination of extraordinary daring and extraordinary ingenuity. We recognize the age-old adage, 'Those who dare, win.'” (Israel Hayom)

USA: NO UN RESOLUTIONS ON ISRAEL UNTIL PA RESUMES TALKS: United States Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said, Mon. 3 April 2017 that the USA will not allow UN resolutions to be adopted on the Israeli-Palestinian Authority conflict as long as the PA does not return to the negotiating table. Haley said that since it's the USA’s turn to be president of the Security Council, the council's monthly discussion on the Middle East Council, to be held in two and a half weeks, will not focus on Israel. Instead, the discussion will revolve around issues such as Iran’s support for terrorism, the Syrian crisis, Hezbollah and Hamas among others," Haley explained. “So much has been put towards Israel and the Palestinian authority and not enough has been put towards some of these other issues,” she said. Haley had come out strongly against the United Nation’s anti-Israel bias just after her first Security Council meeting in Feb. 2017 saying the USA will no longer tolerate this. (J.Post/INN) Ambassador Haley is doing a superb joy at combating UN anti-Israel bias. Pray for her continued success at doing so and for her protection against the entities that are and will be pitted against her.

JEWISH GROUP URGES UNESCO TO REJECT ANTISEMITIC QATARI CANDIDATE FOR UNESCO DIRECTOR- GENERAL: UNESCO should reject the candidacy of former Qatari minister of culture Hamad bin Idealizes Al-Kawari for its director- general, Simon Wiesenthal Center’s European Office has said. Al-Kawari is one of nine candidates under consideration to replace Irina Bokova, who has headed the organization since 2009. On 31 March 2017, Shimon Samuels, international relations director at the Wiesenthal Center, wrote to UNESCO’s Executive Board chairman Michael Worbs, saying that when Al-Kawari was culture minister, Qatar sold texts at the Frankfurt Book fair that “fomented” conspiracy theories against Jews. “Mr. Chairperson, he who apparently endorses the language of the Nazi minister of propaganda Joseph Goebbels must not head the intellectual arm of the United Nations. We expect you to advise the Executive Board accordingly,” said Samuels. He added that Qatar supported UN resolutions on Jerusalem that ignored Jewish ties to the Temple Mount and the Western Wall. UNESCO’s executive board will interview all the candidates in Paris in late April 2017. A secret ballot will be held at its October 2017 meeting. Another secret ballot to affirm the nomination will be held at the body’s general conference in November 2017. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization was established in large part to focus on preserving cultural heritage sites around the world. But the Palestinian Authority and the Arab states have pushed anti-Israel resolutions at its board and committee meetings, turning them into diplomatic battle grounds for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. (J.Post) Intercede that a candidate favorably disposed towards the Jewish state will be voted in as director-general of UNESCO. This UN organization is a major battle front in winning the war against UN anti-Israel bias.

UN AGENCY TO RELEASE NEW DOCUMENT EQUATING ISRAELI 'OCCUPATION' TO USA SLAVERY: Less than a month after its executive-secretary resigned over a controversial report describing Israel as an “apartheid regime,” the UN’s Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia is writing another report, this time equating “50 years of Israeli occupation” to the United States’ history of slavery. The UN Conference on Trade and Development is also said to be collaborating with ESCWA on the report. The document's publication is expected to symbolically coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Six Day War in June 2017. The agency’s last report caused much controversy, stating that “Israel has established an apartheid regime that dominates the Palestinian people as a whole.” It angered Israeli officials, who compared it to Der Sturmer – a Nazi propaganda publication that was strongly anti-Semitic. “The attempt by UN bodies to publish such defamatory reports are reprehensible and can be described only as a disgusting perversion of the truth,” said Israel’s UN Ambassador Danny Danon. “We have made it clear that we will stand strong and demand that such libelous publications not see the light of day.” (Breitbart)

LONDONISTAN: 500 CLOSED CHURCHES, 423 NEW MOSQUES: The city of London now has 423 new mosques, which are "built on the sad ruins of English Christianity." So writes Italian journalist and writer, Giulio Meotti. The Hyatt United Church, for instance, on Hamilton Road, was purchased by the Egyptian community and is being converted into a mosque. St Peter's Church is now the Madina Mosque, and the Brick Lane Mosque used to be a Methodist church. Not only buildings are converted, writes Meotti, but also people: "The number of converts to Islam in London has doubled; often they embrace radical Islam, as with Khalid Masood, the terrorist who struck Westminster. Given the current trends," he predicts, "Christianity in England is becoming a relic, while Islam will be the religion of the future." It is estimated that by 2020, the number of Muslims attending prayers will top the number of Christians attending weekly Mass, 683,000 to 679,000. Within a generation, the number of churchgoers will be three times lower than that of Muslims who go regularly to mosque on Friday. Demographically, Britain has been acquiring an increasingly Islamic face in many cities. Birmingham, England's 2nd largest city, has a population that is 21.8% Muslim; Manchester, stands at 15.8% Muslim, and Bradford, with well over 300,000 people, is a quarter Muslim, including half its children. In Leicester, too, Britain's 10th largest city, half the children are Muslim. (Arutz-7)

JEWISH PARENTS PULL SON FROM BERLIN SCHOOL OVER ANTI-SEMITISM: Allegations of anti-Semitic harassment of a Jewish student in Germany that forced him to leave his school have spurred demands for a federal investigation by Germany’s top Jewish leader. The student’s parents said they pulled their 14-year-old son from the Friedenauer Community School in March 2017, after four months of verbal and physical harassment, culminating in a brutal attack. The parents said the harassment came from students of Arab and Turkish background. In March, according to the parents, “he was attacked and almost strangled, and one of the pupils pulled a toy gun on him that looked like a real gun. And the whole crowd of kids laughed. He was completely shaken.” Early on, when some pupils learned the boy was Jewish, one who had been friendly told him they couldn’t be friends anymore because “Jews are all murderers.” Josef Schuster, head of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, demanded on 3 April 2017 that the education ministry investigate the incident and the response of the school, and state clearly where any failings might be. The school leadership said on its website that the alleged perpetrators in the incident would be held accountable. The boy has been enrolled in an English-language high school. (Arutz-7)

ISRAAID HELPS PERU REBUILD AFTER FLOODS: The Israeli NGO IsraAID is helping teachers in Peru prepare to reopen their schools after more than two weeks of flooding and mudslides that have devastated areas of the country. "One of our biggest concerns is water access," said Naama Gorodischer, IsraAID programs director and head of the mission to Peru. The IsraAID team is offering water purification solutions. (J.Post)

THE DEAD SEA GETS NEW LIFE : On a recent sunny morning Tourism Minister Yariv Levin led a cavalcade of Segways down the picturesque coastline of the Dead Sea in a wondrous, juxtaposition between the past and present. Nestled by the Judean Desert’s breathtaking canyons, with sweeping views of Jordan across the sea, Levin, several architects, and members of the press slowly traversed a new 3 km.-long stone promenade, featuring dozens of canopies, showers, and elegant beaches. Following several years of planning and a NIS 200 million ($55m) investment, Levin traveled to the Ein Bokek resort from Jerusalem for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially unveil the new and unprecedented attraction. Considered by many to be the eighth wonder of the world, on Mon. 3 April 2017, the Dead Sea hosted a burgeoning hotel development and vacation resort.

“We invested hundreds of millions of shekels here, and we’re going to continue this investment in order to not just expand the beaches, but to promote the building of new hotels and commercial centers,” said Levin. “What is important is to provide tourists an overall experience that includes the beach, the sea, great hotels, excellent restaurants and attractions with many things to do, so I believe that coming here will be an unbelievable, unique experience – especially for those who know it from the past.” Indeed, Levin – who commissioned world-renowned architect Moshe Safdie to develop a sprawling master plan stretching 13 kilometers and including some 30 hotels, restaurants and public space – said he is banking on turning the Dead Sea into a world-class resort. “I urge everyone, Israelis and foreigners, to come to the Dead Sea,” he said. “They won’t regret it, and the truth is that they won’t even be able to believe it.” (J.Post) Israel’s expansion and beautification of the dead sea coast line is exciting news for both Israelis and tourists. Pray, however, for the restoration of water levels in the Dead Sea Estimates say this body of water is on pace to dry out by 2050.
