PRIME MINISTER NETANYAHU: MAHMOUD ABBAS LIED TO PRESIDENT TRUMP: PM Benjamin Netanyahu accused Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas of lying when he visited the White House on Wed. 3 May 2017. “I heard President Abbas yesterday say that they teach their children peace,” Netanyahu said, quoting Abbas’ statement to the media made during a joint press event with USA President Donald Trump. “That’s unfortunately not true,” said Netanyahu, who has embarked on a campaign to end payments by the Palestinian Authority to terrorists. “They, the Palestinians, name their schools after mass murderers of Israelis and they pay terrorists,” he said. His comments followed a number of statements from angry right-wing politicians, who were outraged that Abbas could speak of peace while at the same time issuing such payments, which helps inspire acts of terrorism against Israelis. White Press Secretary Sean Spicer told reporters that the president wants Abbas to resolve the PA’s policy of paying terrorists and their families a monthly income. (J. Post)

COLUMN ONE: TRUMP’S TRAGIC MISTAKE: It is due to Trump’s heartfelt support for Israel and the USA-Israel alliance that his meeting Wed. 3 May 2017 with PLO chief Mahmoud Abbas at the White House is most discouraging. By meeting with Abbas, and committing himself to working toward achieving a peace deal between Abbas and his PLO and Israel, Trump undermines Israel. He also undermines himself and his nation. Israel is the most immediate casualty of Trump’s decision to embrace Abbas and the PLO, because the PLO is Israel’s enemy. Abbas is an anti-Semite. His doctoral dissertation, which he later published as a book, is a Holocaust denying creed. Abbas engages in anti-Semitic incitement on a daily basis, both directly and indirectly. It was Abbas who called for his people to kill Jews claiming that we pollute Judaism’s most sacred site, the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, with our “filthy feet.” The Palestinian media and school system which he controls with an iron fist both regularly portray Jews as evil monsters, deserving of physical annihilation. Abbas’ PLO and his Palestinian Authority engage as a general practice in glorifying terrorist murderers. As has been widely reported in recent weeks, his PA and PLO also incentivize and underwrite terrorism to the tune of $300 million a year, which is paid, in accordance with PA law, to convicted terrorists sitting in Israeli prisons and their families. And that’s just the money we know about.

In welcoming Abbas to the White House, Trump chose to ignore all of this in the interest of fostering a peace deal between Israel and the PLO. There are three problems with this goal. First, the peace process between Israel and the PLO is predicated on the notion that the USA must pressure Israel to make massive concessions to the PLO. So simply by engaging in a negotiating process with the PLO, Trump has adopted an antagonistic position toward Israel. The second problem is that Abbas himself has proven, repeatedly, that he will never support a peace deal with Israel. Abbas opposed Israel’s peace offer at Camp David in 2000. He rejected then-prime minister Ehud Olmert’s peace offer in 2008. He rejected then-president Barack Obama’s peace offer in 2013. Since then, Abbas made no sign of moderating his position. The third problem with Trump’s decision to engage in peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians is that any hypothetical deal a hypothetical Palestinian leader would accept, would endanger Israel’s very existence. So in the unlikely event that he reaches “the deal,” his achievement will imperil Israel, rather than protect it. Again, Israel isn’t the only party harmed by Trump’s decision to embrace the Palestinian dictator whose legal term of office ended eight years ago. Trump himself is harmed by his move. (J.Post) Strong intercession is needed that USA President Trump and his administration will not fall - quickly or gradually - into the slimy deception that the Palestinian Authority and its chief, Mahmoud Abbas, can be turned into a friend for Israel. The Palestinian Authority is an entity having only one long lasting goal – not to build its own state – rather, to destroy the Jewish state.

TRUMP ASKED ABBAS TO RESOLVE ISSUE OF PAYMENT TO FAMILIES OF TERRORISTS IN ISRAELI JAILS: White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said Wed. 3 May 2017 that during President Trump's meeting with Mahmoud Abbas, "some of the topics that were discussed were: advancing the Israeli-Palestinian peace; preventing incitement to violence, particularly media outlets directly associated with the Palestinian Authority; strengthening efforts to combat terrorism, including defeating ISIS; measures to empower the Palestinian economy and provide economic opportunity for the Palestinian people. And, additionally, the President raised concerns about the payments to Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails who have committed acts of terror, and to their families, and emphasized the need to resolve this issue." (White House)

PALESTINIAN AUTHORITY REJECTS ‘MAD’ REQUEST TO END PRISONER’S PAYMENT: Nabil Shaath, a senior foreign policy adviser to PA President Mahmoud Abbas, said Thurs. 4 May 2017 that anyone who expects the Palestinian leadership to halt payments to Palestinian prisoners serving sentences in Israeli security prisons must be "mad." During an interview with Israel Radio, he added that such a demand would severely damage any prospects of Middle East peace negotiations. Shaath's statement came the day after White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer told reporters that the president wanted Abbas to "resolve" the PA's policy of paying terrorists and their families a monthly income. Spicer added that Trump told his Palestinian counterpart that the PA must also cease incitement broadcasted on Palestinian television. Hosting Abbas for his first official visit to the White House under the new administration, Trump announced during a joint press conference that the USA is launching a new diplomatic effort to reach a comprehensive peace deal between Israelis and Palestinians, confidently stating that "we will get a deal done" between the two-sides. (J.Post) So much for President Trump’s polite request that the Palestinian Authority “resolve,” paying salaries - made available by the taxpayers of the USA and other countries - to terrorists relaxing in Israeli jails.

TRUMP’S TOLERANCE TOUR: FIRST TRIP TO RIYADH, JERUSALEM AND ROME: In an appeal for religious tolerance and unity against the scourge of radicalization, USA President Donald Trump has chosen to travel to Riyadh, Jerusalem and Rome on his first presidential trip overseas, senior administration officials confirmed on Thurs. 4 May 2017. The trip, starting on 19 May 2017 will mark the beginning of an initiative by the Trump administration to forge a coalition against religious extremism. “These are not going to be the traditional state visits like you’ve seen – these are really working visits,” one official said. Trump will convene Arab world leaders from across the region alongside Saudi royal family members in Riyadh. While in Rome, he will meet for the first time with Pope Francis. And in Jerusalem, Trump will for the first time offer details on his vision for a comprehensive Israeli-Palestinian peace. The president will “lay out some terms for what we see as a peaceful future in that region,” one official said. “There’s a lot of alignment between President Trump and leaders of the Arab world – they see the same problems,” he added. “We’re looking to unify people around the same objectives.” The Trump administration recognizes the President will face challenges in rebooting the Israeli- Palestinian peace process – even with help from the Arab world – just one day after the president said that peace may not be as hard to achieve as people have long thought. “You have to try something – you have to take shots. This is what we think is a very smart first step in the region, in unifying the coalition,” one official said.” (J.Post) Intercede that Israel’s leaders will not give into international pressures to start this false peace process once again. As Albert Einstein rightly said: “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” Let the Palestinians give up terrorism against Israel, educating its young to be jihad murderers of Israelis, glorifying terrorists as heroes, paying salaries to jailed murderers of innocent Israelis, media incitement, and making suicidal demands of the Jewish state, then – perhaps - the subject of peace can again be opened.

IS IT WISE TO ENLIST ARAB STATES TO HELP BREAK THE ISRAELI-PALESTINIAN DEADLOCK: Israel and several Arab regimes now face common threats from Iran and radical Islamic terrorism, a convergence of interests that is increasingly driving the former adversaries together. It is thought that the time could be ripe to have Arab countries step out of the shadows and take center stage in helping break the Israeli-Palestinian deadlock. But when it comes to the Israeli-Palestinian problem, the differences over what would constitute an acceptable solution remain profound - with the Arab states, and certainly Arab public opinion, still overwhelmingly hostile to Israeli positions. Does it really make sense to stress test Israel's incipient and still-fragile cooperation with Saudi Arabia and other Arab states on the one issue that remains the source of their greatest disagreement? (Foreign Policy)

ISRAEL LASHES BACK AT UN AGENCY, CUTS FUNDING: Responding to the passage of a resolution that denies Israeli sovereignty over any portion of Jerusalem by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, Israel has cut the amount in dues it pays the world body by an additional $1 million. The Jewish state paid $11 million in dues in 2016, but following passage of an anti-Israel resolution by the Security Council in January 2017 withheld $6 million in addition to $2 million withheld at the direction of PM Netanyahu after the UN Human Rights Council passed an anti-Israel resolution of its own. Underscoring the dire situation Israel finds itself in at the UN where it is the subject of more resolutions of condemnation than any other nation, PM Netanyahu attempted to lessen the absurd UN ruling by saying a positive sign was that fewer nations voted to condemn Israel this time than in previous cases. The Israeli Foreign Ministry called the Swedish ambassador in for a diplomatic dressing down because of its support of the UNESCO resolution. (Medialine)

ISRAELI COFFEE SHOP GRANTS DISCOUNT FOR BEING POLITE: In Israel, being polite to your barista might not only earn you a smile - it could also save you money. Café Café, one of the country’s largest coffeehouse chains, is now offering a 25 percent discount to customers at its 157 branches who say “please” and “thank you” when ordering a regular size cup of coffee, Globes reported on 3 May 2017. A cup of coffee will cost well-behaved patrons only 6 shekels, or $1.66, rather than 8 shekels, or $2.20. Café Café CEO Noam Zimerman told Globes that he hopes the initiative will “encourage more respectful conversation in Israel society.” He also expects it will benefit his company financially: The chain saw a 30 to 40% increase in new customers when the price of a cup of coffee was slashed to 8 shekels several years ago from 11 or 12. Zimerman anticipates a similar increase this time. (INN)

ON ISRAEL’S INDEPENDENCE DAY, UNESCO OKAYS RESOLUTION DENYING ISRAELI CLAIMS TO JERUSALEM: The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) voted Tues. afternoon 3 May 2017, to adopt a resolution denying Israel's rights to its own capital, Jerusalem. The vote took place on Israel's Independence Day. 23 nations voted in favor of the resolution, compared to 22 which voted against it. 3 nations abstained. Among the countries which voted against the resolution were the United States, Italy, Britain, Holland, Lithuania, Greece, Paraguay, Ukraine, Togo and Germany. The resolution declares that "all legislative and administrative measures and actions taken by Israel, the occupying Power, which have altered or purport to alter the character and status of the Holy City of Jerusalem, and in particular the “basic law” on Jerusalem, are null and void and must be rescinded forthwith." The resolution also condemns Israel for the military conflicts with the Hamas terrorist organization, which rules the Gaza Strip. Israel’s Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, slammed the resolution as an assault on the history of the Jewish people. “This biased and blatantly deceitful decision, and the attempts to dispute the connection between Israel and Jerusalem, will not change the simple fact that this city is the historic and eternal capital of the Jewish people. Israel will not stand silently by in the face of this shameful resolution,” Danon said. (Times of Israel/INN) Pray according to scripture as UN organizations and anti-Israel NGOs repeatedly try to undermine the legitimacy and integrity of the Jewish state and its sovereignty over its capital city, Jerusalem: “For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem’s sake I will not remain quiet, till her vindication shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch. The nations will see your vindication, and all kings your glory; you will be called by a new name that the mouth of the Lord will bestow,” Isa. 62:1-2

ISRAEL CONDEMNS UNESCO VOTE: Israeli leaders from across the political spectrum slammed the UNESCO vote to deny Israel's right to sovereignty over its capital city of Jerusalem on Tues. 2 May 2017. Israeli PM Binyamin Netanyahu said that fewer nations supported Tuesday's resolution than had supported similar anti-Israel UNESCO resolutions last year. “Over the last two days I’ve had numerous conversations with various heads of state and foreign ministers about the absurd vote at the UN. The result is that a number of countries that support this absurd proposal is shrinking,” he says. “A year ago it was 32, six months ago it dropped to 26, and now it’s down to 22 countries,” Netanyahu said. “I still want to make a systematic and consistent effort to reduce this even further, because these kinds of votes have no place at the UN,” Netanyahu added. “Today there are more countries that support Israel or abstain than countries that oppose Israel,” he adds. “It’s a change, for the first time.” Opposition leader Yizthak Herzog called the resolution anti-Semitic. “This UNESCO resolution is an anti-Semitic and anti-Israel disgrace that distorts the history of the Jewish people and their unshakable connection to their capital, Jerusalem,” Herzog said. “This is a miserable, baseless and aggressive decision that will find itself in the garbage can of history, just like the accusation that Zionism is racism," Herzog added. Israeli President Reuvin Rivlin told foreign ambassadors gathered at his residence to celebrate Israel's Independence Day that their governments should respond to the resolution by recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and moving their embassies there. “It is time to recognize Jerusalem, as the official capital of the State of Israel. It is time to move all the official embassies here, to Jerusalem,” Rivlin said. (Arutz-7)

HOTOVELY: ‘FAKE HISTORY’: Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely said: “UNESCO’s expected political decision only harms the organization - which is supposed to preserve heritage and culture - by repeatedly misusing its role when it comes to Israel. Israel does not need approvals from political bodies to connect the unshakable historical connection to our eternal capital, a connection that is over 3,000 years old and cries out from each and every stone in this city," she added. Hotovely derided the UNESCO resolution and the denial of the fact of Israel’s sovereignty in Jerusalem as “fake history”. "This is absurd. We have become used to the concept of 'fake news'. Well, welcome to 'fake history',” said Hotovely. "UNESCO has long been politicized and unfortunately has become a tool in the service of Palestinian propaganda against Israel. We, as Israelis, don’t need UNESCO's approval of our history in our land. Meanwhile, Culture and Sport Minister Miri Regev (Likud) called for the closure of the UN headquarters in Jerusalem’s Armon Hanatziv neighborhood and a return of the land to the state. " We’ve had 50 years of sovereignty in the city, there is no need for the presence of UN observers. They were given the opportunity to use the compound to supervise the ceasefire agreements of the Six Day War - agreements that are no longer relevant. This saga must end,” said Regev. (Arutz-7)

ABBAS: WE WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY SOLUTION THAT DOES NOT INCLUDE STATE ON ’67 LINES: On the eve of his first meeting with USA President Donald Trump, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said on Tues. 2 May 2017 that the Palestinian leadership “will not accept any solution” that does not include a state along 1967 lines and east Jerusalem as its capital. Abbas made the remarks at an event in Washington, D.C., where he spoke before members of the Palestinian diaspora, who reside in the USA. Abbas has long stated that he supports the establishment of a Palestinian state along 1967 borders with east Jerusalem as its capital, but also proposed minor land swaps in previous negotiations. Abbas and a team of his advisers on Wed. 3 May 2017, were slated to meet with Trump, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and a number of American-Jewish leaders. (Jerusalem Post) Pray that Palestinian, USA and global leaders, will understand there is absolutely zero chance Israel is going to comply with any plan for a future Palestinian state based on pre-1967 lines. It is a ludicrous objective, one which a long line of Israeli government and military leaders have considered to be “suicidal,” for the Jewish state.

ISRAEL CANNOT RETURN TO THE PRE-1967 BORDERS: Israel cannot return to the pre-1967 borders. It would leave the center of the country a mere nine miles wide and its borders indefensible. The Jewish State could be cut in two by an Arab tank charge in just minutes. Arab forces would be positioned all along Israel’s eastern border, including the areas that contain the greatest concentration of Israel’s population, including Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Haifa. Israel would be stripped of its protective Judea-Samaria mountain ranges. USA Lieut.-General Thomas Kelly, director of operations for the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the Gulf War, pointed out that Israel would be virtually indefensible without those mountainous areas. An Israeli retreat to the pre-1967 borders would also include the re-division of Jerusalem. The Arabs would gain control of the Old City section of Jerusalem (known as “east Jerusalem”), which includes the holiest sites in Judaism, the Temple Mount and the Western Wall. That area also includes the historic Jewish Quarter and the Mount of Olives cemetery, which is the oldest Jewish cemetery in the world. An Israeli retreat to the indefensible pre-1967 borders would encourage further Arab attacks and lead to an all-out war. (JNN staff)

‘HAMAS INVESTS ALL ITS RESOURCES IN DESTROYING ISRAEL’: Israel responded with skepticism to reports that Hamas intends to remove the call for the destruction of Israel from the new policy document it is formulating. "We see that Hamas continues to invest all its resources not only in preparations for war against Israel, but also in educating the children of Gaza to annihilate Israel," the prime minister's office said Monday evening 1 May 2017. "The day Hamas stops digging tunnels and diverts its resources to civilian infrastructure and stops educating to kill Israelis, it will be a real change," Netanyahu's office said in response to the reports that Hamas is seeking a new direction. Internal Security Minister Gilad Erdan added that "the political platform” published by Hamas is a false representation and a public relations exercise whose only purpose is to enlist international legitimacy. In practice, Hamas continues to promote terrorist attacks and wild incitement calling for the murder of Israelis and continues to refuse to recognize Israel's right to exist. The international community must not treat the Hamas platform as a change in the policy of the movement, Erdan said.

Arab media reported Monday afternoon that Hamas would remove the call to destroy Israel from the movement's policy, in order to improve relations with the Gulf states and Egypt. In addition, Hamas will reportedly declare support for a Palestinian Arab state along the 1967 lines without recognizing Israel's right to exist. Observers say that Hamas’ acceptance of a Palestinian state along pre-1967 borders as “a national consensus” indicates that Hamas is positioning itself to make territorial compromises with Israel. However, Hamas makes clear throughout the document that it is not prepared to make such a compromise. “Hamas rejects any alternative to the full and complete liberation of Palestine, from the river to the sea,” the document states. It also says that Hamas refuses to recognize Israel. “There shall be no recognition of the legitimacy of the Zionist entity,” the document reads. Taken together, Hamas’ rejection of territorial compromise and recognizing Israel leaves no room to believe it is moving in the direction of making concessions to Israel. (J.Post)

RARE: 40,000 LEVANT SPARROW HAWKS FLY OVER EILAT: Forty thousand Levant sparrowhawks, representing two-thirds of the species' global population, flew over Eilat and landed in the bird-watching park and palm plantations in the southern Arava. CEO of the Eilat Birdwatching Center Noam Weiss said, "This week, Eilat saw one of the most beautiful bird-watching weeks she has ever seen. In less than 36 hours, 40,000 Levant sparrowhawks flew over our city. Early Friday morning, 28 April 2017, the sparrowhawks began to fly in groups of thousands, low over the ground. As the day became warmer, they flew higher in the sky, until they looked like flies, and only experienced birdwatchers could make them out. Towards evening, they landed in the Eilat Birdwatching Park and at the palm plantation in the Arava. As more groups of a thousand arrived, they made a tumult in the usually silent plantation." According to the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI), little is known about Levant sparrowhawks because of the regions it populates and the fact that it nests in the Balkan Mountains forests. Most nature scientists believe the species' numbers are declining as a result of hunters, competition with the northern goshawk, and harm done to its natural habitats. More Levant sparrowhawks are expected to fly over Israel in the coming week. (Arutz-7)

ISRAEL REMEMBERS ITS FALLEN MEN AND WOMEN BEFORE CELEBRATING 69TH ANNIVERSARY: The state of Israel is in the midst of its annual two-days of commemoration: 24-hours of solemnity during which those who died protecting the nation are remembered and honored followed by a day-long Independence Day celebration. On Memorial Day, regular television programming is suspended and vignettes depicting the lives of soldiers who died defending the country air instead. The entire nation comes to a standstill as a siren sounds. As the day concludes 24-hours later, a national ceremony kicks-off a joyous celebration of independence. Israelis take to the streets in celebration while the next day is marked by Air force fly-overs, the awarding of the Israel Prize, the nation’s highest civilian honor, the annual Bible Contest and barbecues. (Medialine)

NETANYAHU TO ABBAS: HOW CAN YOU SPEAK OF PEACE WHILE FINANCING MURDERERS?: PM Benjamin Netanyahu took aim at Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Mon. 1 May 2017 at a ceremony honoring Israeli victims of terror attacks. "President Abbas, how can you speak of peace with Israel while financing murderers?" Netanyahu asked, pointing to the Palestinian Authority's provision of stipends to terrorists and their families. Speaking at a ceremony honoring the Victims of Hostilities at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, Netanyahu questioned how Palestinian terrorists can receive a heroes treatment. "How can someone be considered a hero, after taking a knife and stabbing children in their sleep, such as Hillel Ariel?" Netanyahu further asked. At an earlier Memorial Day tribute on Monday, Netanyahu mourned the loss of Israel's fallen soldiers, yet stated that sending troops to battle is "essential" to achieving regional peace and for the country's survival. Speaking at an official state ceremony for Memorial Day at the national military cemetery at Mount Hertz, the premier extended his condolences to bereaved families and extended his appreciation to all those who have contributed to Israel's continued existential fight. "I wish a speedy recovery to the injured and I promise that we will not rest, and we are not resting, until we bring back our warriors Hadar Goldin and Oron Shaul," he stated of the two fallen IDF soldier whose bodies are thought to have been held by Hamas since the 2014 Israel-Gaza conflict. Netanyahu also mention those "who have paid the price," including those from the country's Jewish, Druse, Muslim, Beduin Christian and Circassian sectors. "We are brothers in good times and bad, in our yearning for peace and in the hardships of war," he said. (J.Post) PA: WE WILL CONTINUE PAYING JAILED TERRORISTS: A PA official said on Saturday 29 April 2017 that PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas “completely rejects” Israel’s call to the PA to stop granting stipends to jailed terrorists, Israel’s Channel 2 reported. The PA’s official in charge of “prisoner affairs” Issa Qaraqe said that the PA was fully supportive of Palestinian terrorists sitting in Israeli jails. “We will continue funding them. The Chairman has made clear that he supports them completely,” Qaraqe said. In an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity earlier this month, PM Netanyahu had called on USA President Trump to pressure Abbas during their upcoming meeting in Washington to stop encouraging terror by funding jailed terrorists and their families. “The first test of peace is to say to them ‘Hey, you want peace? Prove it. Confront terrorism, stop rewarding terrorism, stop paying terrorists. And don’t finagle the books.’ What they do is say, ‘Okay, we won’t pay directly, we’ll pay it to somebody else and they’ll pay it to the terrorists’ in a sort of circular fashion. No. Come clean on this.” (Arutz-7) Intercede that this hateful policy furthered by taxpayers money from Western governments will be repeatedly exposed, condemned and heavily penalized until it ceases. Murderers of innocent men, women and children should not receive financial rewards, should not be glorified and treated as heroes!

BILL IN CONGRESS WOULD PRESSURE PALESTINIAN GOV’T TO CUT OFF TERROR-TIED PAYMENTS: Taylor Force was a West Point graduate who served in Afghanistan and Iraq. He was pursuing his MBA at Vanderbilt last year, and his future was certainly very bright. Taylor, who was 28, was walking along the Mediterranean boardwalk promenade with friends in Tel Aviv, when he was savagely knifed to death on 8 March 2016. His killer was identified as a Palestinian terrorist, 22-year-old Bashar Masalha, who authorities say went on a stabbing spree that also severely wounded ten others before he was shot dead by Israeli police. Taylor's parents say their grief was compounded by the fact that the family of their son's murderer is making money off his death. The Palestinian Authority spends hundreds of millions of dollars a year paying jihadists and their survivors who were involved in acts of terrorism, and critics say some of those funds come from USA taxpayer money that Washington sends to the P.A.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is scheduled to meet with President Trump at the White House on 3 May 2017. It is expected that Trump will raise the issue of payments during the visit. A congressional bill named for Taylor, the Taylor Force Act, would cut off the USA aid unless the Palestinian Authority stops the payments. "Can you imagine growing up in a country where your government will pay you for killing someone else through a terrorist act?" asks South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham incredulously. He is the leading sponsor of the Senate legislation. "If you die as a terrorist, as a 'martyr,' your family will get an annual stipend greater than the average Palestinian earns. In this case, the terrorist who killed Taylor Force was hailed as a hero, was basically given a state funeral, and his family was given money by the state," Graham says. (Fox) Let your voice be heard against the policy of jailed Palestinian terrorists in Israel receiving a salary and benefits from the Palestinian Authority for killing and maiming innocent Israelis. As a taxpaying citizen of the USA you can email the offices of your local politicians, also state senators and congressmen and express your opinion against this foul procedure. You can even email the White House and President Donald Trump. Check for White House contact information at: https://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/write-or-call.

HAMAS TERRORIST GROUP, PLO REACH AGREEMENT: ISRAEL HAS NO RIGHT TO EXIST: Despite ongoing strife between the two largest factions in the Palestinian Authority – PA chief Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah and the Hamas movement – recent statements by representatives of both groups suggest the two rivals may be working to resolve their differences. The apparent beginnings of the rapprochement between Hamas and Fatah are rooted in the one area of agreement between the two factions, says the Palestinian Media Watch, which has monitored a spike in public overtures between senior officials of the two groups. Unfortunately for Israel PMW reports, the effort to unify the two largest PA factions is based not on a joint vision for improving the lives of those under PA rule, but on the two groups’ shared hatred of the Jewish state and belief that Israel has no right to exist. Recently, PA television, the mouthpiece of Abbas’ Fatah party, proudly declared that “the Fatah movement has never demanded Hamas recognize Israel. The Fatah movement itself even today does not recognize Israel. In all meetings of the Fatah party, the issue of recognizing Israel is never raised.” At the same time, during a discussion of the new Hamas charter now being drafted, senior Hamas official Mahmud A-Zahar told Lebanese television that a provision in the new charter calling for the establishment of a Palestinian state in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza was merely a “tactical step”, and that Hamas still believes Israel has no right to exist in any size, shape, or form, and that Palestine must ultimately include all of the land between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean. (Arutz-7)

NORTH KOREA THREATENS ISRAEL WITH ‘MERCILESS, THOUSAND-FOLD PUNISHMENT’: North Korea is determined to beat President Trump and the USA, and that means beating America's allies, too. At the top of that list for the North Koreans are two countries: Japan and Israel. Japan is obvious. Israel, less so. But observers will remember that when Israel destroyed Syria's nascent nuclear program, it was quickly discovered that North Korea had provided the know-how and hardware to the defiant Arab dictatorship. It is also known that North Korea is in league with some of the Middle East's more unsavory players, all of which want to see Israeli annihilated. As such, few Israelis tears would be shed if Trump followed through on his threats to end the North Korean regime. And Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said as much in a radio interview last week. The North Korean government responded with a stern warning for Israel: "The reckless remarks of the Israeli defense minister are sordid and wicked behavior and a grave challenge to the DPRK." The statement went on to threaten Israel and any other nation that damages the "dignity" of the North Korean leadership with "merciless, thousand-fold punishment." (Israel Today)

HAMAS THANKS NORTH KOREA FOR THREATENING ISRAEL: The Hamas terrorist organization on 30 April 2017, thanked North Korea for issuing a threat against Israel a day earlier. "Hamas condemns the Israeli attack on Pyongyang and stresses that the occupation is the leader of evil," the group said, according to media sources. Hamas also said it appreciated the statements made by North Korea in condemnation of the “continuation of the occupation”, as well as its support for the Palestinian people "until it achieves its freedom." On 29 April 2017, North Korea's Defense Ministry threatened Israel after Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman said that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is "a madman". "That madman from North Korea is Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad's closest friend, and he's a friend of the Iranians, too. There is a pact of evil here, from North Korea, through Iran, to Syria and Hezbollah. These people, their entire purpose is to try to undermine the stability of the entire world. It's an extremist and insane group," said Liberman. In response, North Korea said "This is a cynical ploy to escape international condemnation for preventing peace in the Middle East, occupying Arab territories and committing crimes against humanity," it said. "Israel would be well advised to think twice about the consequences of its smear campaign against the DPRK, meant to cover up its own crimes of occupying Arab territories and disturbing the peace process in the Middle East,” the statement said. Liberman's comments followed North Korea's latest ballistic missile test. Officials said the test failed. (Arutz-7)

SURVEY: BOTH JEWISH AND ARAB ISRAELIS ARE OPTIMISTIC ABOUT FUTURE: 74% of Israeli Jews and 57% of Israeli Arabs rate their own personal situation as good or very good, according to the Peace Index survey conducted on 25-26 April 2017, by Tel Aviv University and the Israel Democracy Institute. 86% of Jews and 51% of Arabs are proud of being an Israeli, while 73% of Jews and 61% of Arabs are optimistic about Israel's future. (Peace Index) “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future,” Jer. 29:11.

JNN News Update April 30, 2017

HAPPY 69TH BIRTHDAY, ISRAEL! Minutes after honoring and remembering those who gave their lives in defense of the Jewish state, Israelis on Mon. evening 1 May 2017, will burst into celebration for the 69th anniversary of their ancient nation's modern rebirth. Fireworks will be on display across the country and young and old will gather to mark Israel's Independence Day. According to Jewish tradition, days start at sunset, so Independence Day will come into full swing Tues. morning 2 May, when nearly every Israeli across the country will set out for the nation's numerous parks to enjoy BBQs and fellowship. Independence Day has been said to be “the day on which the nation of Israel's power is revealed.” (JNN) " This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." Ps. 118:24.

ON ISRAEL’S 69TH BIRTHDAY, POPULATION REACHES 8.7 MILLION: As Israel prepares to celebrate its 69th birthday starting at dusk on 1 May 2017, the Central Bureau of Statistics has announced that the Jewish state has 8.680 million citizens, 10 times more than at its founding in 1948. The Jewish population in the country represents 6.484 million residents – 74.7 percent of the total population – and the Arab population stands at 1.808 million people – 20.8% of the country’s inhabitants. The remaining 4.5%, approximately 388,000 people, represent non-Arab Christians and people of other religions, as well as those with no religious affiliation, the vast majority of who are from the former Soviet Union. The report cited that at the founding of the State, there were 11.5 million Jews in the world, of who six percent were living in Israel. In contrast, in 2015 there were 14.411 million Jews in the world, 43% of who were living in Israel. The data also revealed that the Jewish State’s population is expected to hit over 15 million by 2048 – Israel’s 100th birthday. In addition, the figures showed that 174,000 babies were born this past year, while 44,000 deaths were recorded. With regard to aliya, some 30,000 immigrants arrived in Israel this past year. According to the report, three quarters of Israel’s Jewish population are sabras, native-born Israelis. This figure is more than double the percentage in 1948. (J. HOW RELIGIOUS ARE ISRAELIS? Figures released by the Central Bureau of Statistics, shortly before Israel's 69th Independence Day, reveal secular Jews are a minority with most identifying as religious (Orthodox) or traditional. Of 6.484 million Jews living in Israel, the CBS reports that less than half (44%) of them consider themselves secular or non-religious. Nearly one-third of Israeli Jews identify as Orthodox, while the remaining 24% say they are traditional. American Jewry by comparison has been characterized in recent studies, including a Pew Research survey, as overwhelmingly secular, with just 10% of America’s six million Jews identifying as Orthodox. According to Pew, 30% of Jews identify with no Jewish denomination or movement, while 53% identify with non-traditional movements including Reform (35%) and Conservative (18%). Among non-Jews in Israel, 4% self-identify as extremely religious, 52% as religious, 23% as mildly religious, and 21% as not at all religious. (INN)

23,544 FALLEN ISRAELI SOLDIERS: Ahead of Israel's 2017 Memorial Day, beginning Sunday evening 30 April, the Defense Ministry published the official figures of the number of fallen soldiers in Israel. Twenty-three thousand, five hundred and forty four Jewish and Israeli soldiers, policemen, and guards have fallen in defense of the State of Israel and the pre-state Jewish community from 1860, when the Jewish community of Jerusalem expanded beyond the walls of the Old City and began to provide its own security, until today. Sixty casualties have been added to the number of fallen soldiers since last Memorial Day (6 May 2016). Additionally, 37 IDF veterans died over the past year as a result of injuries they received in combat. The number of bereaved families in Israel in 2017 includes 9,157 bereaved parents, 4,881 widows of IDF soldiers and security forces, 1,843 orphans to the age of 30, and thousands of bereaved and orphaned children over the age of 30. A one-minute siren will be heard all over the country on Sunday 30 April 2017 at 8:00 p.m., marking the opening of Israel's Memorial Day for fallen soldiers. Immediately after the siren, the memorial rallies will begin. On Monday, a two-minute siren will be sounded, followed by state memorial ceremonies and memorial ceremonies throughout the country. (Arutz-7) “Weep with those who weep,” Rom. 12: 15. Please pray for the comforting of a multitude of Israelis who continue to mourn the loss of family and loved ones due to wars and terrorist attacks.

‘WE HAVE MEMORIAL DAY 365 DAYS A YEAR’: Hava and Yigal the parents of fallen IDF soldier Oren Noach, who died in the 2014 Israel–Gaza conflict, also known as Operation Protective Edge, talked with high school student, Shira Noach, days prior to this year’s Memorial Day in Israel. The bereaved parents spoke about their daily coping with the loss of their son. "We have Memorial Days 365 days a year, each of us has the picture of Oren everywhere, but even without it Oren's pictures pass through my mind. This period of time is more emotional. He had a birthday a few days before Pesach and at Seder night we leave a chair not only for Elijah the Prophet but also for Oren. Immediately after Pesach, we marked the anniversary of the establishment of the observatory that was dedicated in his memory. We are doing everything we need to do to tell about Oren and the fallen of Operation Protective Edge." Shira Noach’s interview of the bereaved parents was part of a special project to be held at her school this week in honor of Memorial Day. (INN)

REPORT: ISRAEL ATTACKED HEZBOLLAH WEAPONS SHIPMENT: Israeli warplanes appear to have attacked a weapons stockpile intended for the armed terror organization Hezbollah near the Damascus airport in Syria on Thurs. 27 April 2017. Israel’s Intelligence Minister Yisrael Katz, while not admitting to the attack, told Army Radio that “the incident is completely compatible with our policy of preventing weapons transfer to Hezbollah. Every time we receive intelligence information on plans to transfer advanced weaponry to Hezbollah, we will act,” the minister said. “We must prevent Iran from establishing a military presence in Syria.” The Hezbollah terrorist organization is funded by Iran and Syria, and weapons are routinely trafficked from Iran through Syria to the organization, which is based near the Israeli border in southern Lebanon. Israel has repeatedly warned that it would not allow “game-changing” weapons to reach Hezbollah. In the Second Lebanon War in 2006, Hezbollah fired more than 4,000 rockets on Israel, something that Israel would like to prevent from reoccurring. (Kehila News/Reuters) Please continue to be prayerfully alert to events taking place in countries adverse to the Jewish state on the other side of Israel’s northern borders. This region, most immediately, includes Syria and Lebanon, out of which terrorists groups rabidly hostile to Israel and supported by Iran, operate. Pray for the Lord’s angelic shields to be along Israel’s northern borders.

NETANYAHU SLAMS GERMAN FM FOR INSULTING VICTIMS OF HOLOCAUST: In unusually strong language, PM Benjamin Netanyahu blasted German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel for lacking sensitivity toward the victims of the Holocaust and endangering the security of the Jewish state with his support of an anti-Israel NGO. Netanyahu told Germany's largest circulation paper Bild on 28 April 2017 that, "I find it extremely tactless for such a meeting with left-wing NGOs, Breaking the Silence and B'Tselem, to take place at this time." Adding that, “On this day we mourn the murdered Holocaust members of our people." Gabriel opted to meet with hard-left NGOs instead of with Netanyahu earlier last week. Breaking the Silence uses anonymous testimonies to claim that IDF soldiers commit war crimes. "My basic principle is simple," Netanyahu said, "I don't welcome diplomats from other countries who visit Israel and at the same time meet with organizations that call our soldiers war criminals." Netanyahu continued, saying, "Breaking Silence is not a human rights organization. They deal only with criminalizing Israeli soldiers." Netanyahu told Gabriel on 24 April 2017 that he would not meet with him if he went ahead with his meetings with the NGOs. Gabriel snubbed the prime minister and later refused to take Netanyahu's call. Gabriel is one of the most left-wing foreign ministers in German history. He considers Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to be his "friend" and his party has declared a "strategic partnership" with Abbas' Fatah party. Gabriel has also gone to great lengths to boost trade with Iran. His party held an exhibit for Breaking the Silence at its party headquarters in 2012 in Berlin. (J.Post)

FRANCE: NEW NATIONAL FRONT LEADER WHO DOUBTED NAZIS GASSED JEWS QUITS AS LE PEN’S TEMPORARY REPLACEMENT: The interim successor to Marine Le Pen at the helm of France’s far-right National Front party has stepped down after an interview from 2000 surfaced in which he cast doubt on the Nazi gassing of Jews during the Holocaust. Jean-François Jalkh took Le Pen’s place last week as the party’s chief on an interim basis, while she campaigns for national president ahead of the runoff vote on 7 May 2017. He made the remark in an interview in which he advocated a distinction between “serious” Holocaust deniers and ones who deny the Holocaust or aspects of it as a provocation. National Front vice president Louis Aliot said on Friday, 28 April 2017 that Jalkh is stepping down to avoid further damage to the party, but that he is contesting allegations of Holocaust denial, a crime in France. Jalkh is also among seven people called to trial in an alleged illegal financing scheme for the party - one of the other challenges facing Le Pen’s campaign. Aliot said Jalkh will be replaced as party leader by Steeve Briois, mayor of Le Pen’s electoral fiefdom of Henin-Beaumont in depressed northern France. (Times of Israel) Marine Le Pen who open her presidential campaign in Feb. 2017, declared early-on that if she is elected president of France that French Jews will no longer be able to hold dual Israeli and French citizenship. Former Israeli MK Former MK Shmuel Sharon has warned that the Le Pen family has been immersed in French politics for fifty years, and that Marine's father is nothing but a fascist who does not only not like Jews, but "hates Jews." In contrast to her father, says Sharon, the daughter maintains a policy of smiles and announces that she has nothing against Jews, but in reality conducts a policy that emanates from her father's worldview. There are six-hundred-thousand Jews in France. Sharon holds that Jews must beware of anti-Semitism which is not a mere lack of love for Jews, but active hatred for Jews, a perception that ultimately leads to acts of murder against Jews and Israelis.

JNN News Update April 28, 2017

WHAT IS J STREET - WHO ARE ITS FINANCIAL BACKERS? J Street was established in 2008 as the first-ever federal political action committee (PAC) which describes itself as “the political home for pro-Israel, pro-peace Americans,” promoting American leadership to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. J Street is in fact, a virulently anti-Israel and anti-Zionist propaganda machine, founded by Jeremy Ben-Ami with money from virulently anti-Israel billionaire George Soros. George Soros gives billions to left-wing causes. He has manipulated USA presidential election outcomes with his resources, including giving $23.58 million to various 527 groups dedicated to defeating then President George W. Bush in 2004, while financially jump-starting former president Barack Obama’s political career. Soros is also lavish in his financial support for pro-abortion organization, Planned Parenthood. In statements that can only be described as “bizarre,” George Soros has repeatedly said that he sees himself as a “messianic figure.” J Street's founding Executive Director Jeremy Ben-Ami, is a former domestic policy adviser in the Clinton Administration. Ben-Ami refuses to recognize Israel as a Jewish state. He was accused of being a serial liar when despite his repeated denials, anti-Israeli George Soros was exposed as one of his major contributors. Meanwhile, Co-founder Daniel Levy has described Israel’s creation as “an act that went wrong.”

Pro-Israel sources have commented that the tone set by J Street’s leadership is to “manipulate history and reality with dangerous rhetoric.” J Street’s approach has been described as being “arrogant and paternalistic” with its leaders having the chutzpah to claim that they know better than Israelis what is good for Israel. J Street collaborators have been sharply criticized for being out of touch with, or indifferent to, the existential threats Israel faces, ignorant of history and unwilling to grapple with the complexities of Israel’s situation – while comparing Israeli Jews to drug addicted children who require “tough love” for their welfare.

In addition to billionaire George Soros, among J Street’s list of major contributors is Richard Abdoo, a leader of the Arab Council; Wagih Abu-Rish of the Arab American Institute; Magdi Badawy, a Stop the Occupation activist; Nidal Ayyat from Dharam, Saudi Arabia; Farhan Bhatti, PR director for the Islamic Center. Also Genevieve Lynch, board member of the National Iranian American Council (ousted as a lobbying group for the mullahs), who is on J Street’s finance committee and contributed $10,000 to it. There’s also Nancy Dutton, an attorney who once represented the Saudi Embassy in Washington. And then there is Mehmet Celebi, the former president of the Turkish American Cultural Association, who co-produced the viciously anti-American Valley of the Wolves: a 2006 film that depicts a Jewish American doctor harvesting organs from prisoners in Iraq. It is estimated that 50% of J Street’s budget comes from outside the USA, from sources who are known for their anti- Israel stances. Among other facts to note concerning J Street is that ahead of a crucial congressional vote to either ratify or block the Iran deal, J Street in July 2015 took out a full page advertisement in the New York Times supporting calls to Congress to refrain from “sabotaging” the Iranian nuclear agreement. We continue to see the bitter fruits of the Iran deal, including the Islamic Republic’s ongoing threats to destroy Israel. (JNN staff) Sadly the dangerous J Street organization, which claims to be pro-Israel, is making many converts in synagogues and on college campuses across America. Please intercede that J Street leaders, their destructive propaganda and agenda for the Jewish state, and their anti-Israel financial backers will be exposed and defeated.

J STREET HOSTS LEFTIST ANTI-IDF NGO: J Street, at Washington University, held a two day event featuring the foreign-funded leftist NGO "Breaking the Silence." The Anti-Defamation League joined the event on 27 April 2017. According to J Street's Facebook page, "Breaking the Silence is an organization of veteran combatants who have served in the Israeli military since the start of the Second Intifada and have taken it upon themselves to expose the Israeli public to the reality of everyday life in the [so called] Occupied Territories." In fact, Breaking the Silence is guilty of espionage against the IDF, and has consistently refused the IDF's demands to turn over to its authorities the evidence the NGO has accumulated. Instead, Breaking the Silence has chosen to provide the information to international bodies. In January 2017, Breaking the Silence publicized a video claiming that "stabbing an IDF soldier is not a terror attack." (Arutz-7)

GERMAN FOREIGN MINISTER MEETS WITH RADICAL NGO’s: Germany’s foreign minister met with representatives of left-wing Israeli organizations, despite being asked by Israel’s prime minister to cancel such a meeting. Sigmar Gabriel met with representatives of B’Tselem, a radical leftist organization, and Breaking the Silence, a veterans’ group that alleges the Israeli army abuses Arabs, late Tuesday, 25 April 2017. The office of PM Binyamin Netanyahu, who also serves as foreign minister, canceled a meeting with Gabriel when the visiting German official decided to keep his meeting with the NGOs. He also refused to take a call from Netanyahu after their meeting was canceled. Following Gabriel’s gathering with the NGOs, B’Tselem released a statement in English calling on the international community to punish Israel. (Arutz-7)

ISRAEL’S JUSTICE MINISTER: ‘DELEGITIMIZE BREAKING THE SILENCE’: Israel’s Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked said that PM Netanyahu did the right thing when he conditioned his meeting with the German Foreign Minister upon the latter's canceling his meeting with radical left-wing organizations Breaking the Silence and B'Tselem. According to Shaked, even though the ultimatum bolstered the insignificant organizations, the move was needed to make it clear to the world that these groups harm the State of Israel and act systematically against it throughout the world and therefore should be delegitimized. Shaked said that the state asked the Breaking the Silence organization for evidence of crimes allegedly committed by soldiers in order to investigate, but the organization refused to transfer the material. Shaked explained that it was all about smearing Israel around the world for not giving up Judea & Samaria. German Foreign Minister Gabriel’s move to pick a fight with Netanyahu came as no surprise to long-term observers of Gabriel and his Social Democratic Party’s (SPD) explicit pivot toward Fatah and the Islamic Republic of Iran. Netanyahu told Gabriel he was not prepared to meet with him unless he cancelled meetings with organizations that seek to delegitimize the Jewish state and the IDF. Gabriel refused the prime minister’s request and also a phone call from Netanyahu. (Arutz-7)

REPORT: WHITE HOUSE, JERUSALEM IN TALKS ON TRUMP VISIT TO ISRAEL: PM Benjamin Netanyahu's office and the White House are reportedly in advanced talks regarding the possibility that USA President Donald Trump will make his first official state visit to Israel at the end of May 2017. Israel’s Channel 2 report on 26 April 2017 stated that Trump's possible Israel visit would occur on 21 May or another day late next month, around the time he is slated to visit Europe. However, official scheduling and further details on Trump's potential visit have not yet been finalized. (Jerusalem Post)

USA TO EXPEL TERRORIST WHO LIED ABOUT HER PAST: Convicted Palestinian terrorist Rasmea Yousef Odeh, an organizer of a Day Without a Woman - an event funded heavily by billionaire anti-Israel, George Soros - has agreed to leave the country in exchange for no jail time for failing to disclose the conviction on her USA visa application. Odeh, a resident of Chicago who has lived in the USA for about 20 years, pleaded guilty to unlawful procurement of naturalization in a deal that will allow her to leave the United States rather than face the possibility of an 18-month prison sentence. In her plea agreement, Odeh signed that she made the false statements on her immigration and naturalization forms "intentionally and not as a result of any mistake, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or any other psychological issue or condition or for any innocent reason." The 69-year-old Palestinian terrorist was convicted in the 1969 supermarket bombing in Israel that killed two Hebrew University students and injured nine other people. Odeh was charged with placing explosives in a candy box in the supermarket. She served 10 years before being released in a prisoner exchange. Odeh is associate director of the Arab American Action Network (AAAN) in Chicago, which works with the city's Arab population. The director of AAAN Chicago said outside the court that, "The only thing Rasmea Odeh is guilty of is devoting over 50 years of her life to freeing Palestine." It seems the murder of two Jewish Israelis, the injury of nine additional Israeli victims and immigration fraud, is no cause for guilt. Odeh will be stripped of her USA citizenship and expelled to Jordan or another country. (Washington Times)

BRITAIN REFUSES PALESTINIAN REQUEST FOR APOLOGY OVER 1917 BALFOUR PROMISE: Palestinian leaders said on 25 April 2017 that Britain had rejected their request for an apology for the 1917 Balfour Declaration that helped pave the way to the State of Israel. British PM Theresa May has invited Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu to attend events commemorating the Balfour Declaration in November 2017. A British Foreign Office spokesman described the Balfour Declaration as "a historic statement. We continue to support the principle of a Jewish homeland and the modern state of Israel, just as we support the critical objective of a viable and sovereign Palestinian state." Manuel Hassassian, the Palestinian ambassador to Britain, told Voice of Palestine Radio on 26 April 2017 that unless Britain apologized and cancelled planned celebrations, the Palestinians would pursue international court action against Britain. (Reuters) “He drove out nations before them and allotted their lands to them as an inheritance. He settled the tribes of Israel in their homes.” Ps 78:55

VIDEO: PLANNED PARENTHOOD EXEC WHO ‘WANTED A LAMBORGHINI’ CAUGHT HAGGLING OVER BABY BODY PARTS: The Center for Medical Progress released a never-before-seen video on 26 April 2017 showing a top Planned Parenthood executive haggling over the price of baby body parts from abortions. Mary Gatter, president of the medical directors’ council at the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, is the same executive who, in a previous undercover video, was caught saying she wanted to buy a Lamborghini with the profits from fetal tissue. In the new video, when an undercover journalist tells Ms. Gatter he is willing to pay $50 per fetal tissue specimen, she says that’s “on the low end. $50 was like 12 years ago." Ms. Gatter also asks the undercover journalist how much fetal tissue he wants to buy. “What kind of volume do you need and what gestational ages?” she says, adding that specimens are available up to 16 weeks. (Washington Times) Intercede that the “hidden works of darkness,” of this demonic organization will continue to be exposed no matter what judicial threats or oppositions arise in doing so. Pray that Planned Parenthood will be completely stripped of government funding and forced to close down. Most importantly, pray for the lives of the innocent babies.

JNN News Update April 26, 2017

TRUMP: 'WE MUST NOT FORGET THE HOLOCAUST': USA President Donald Trump on Monday 24 April 2017, issued a special proclamation about Holocaust Remembrance Day. “On Yom Hashoah - the day of Holocaust Remembrance - and during this Week of Remembrance, we honor the victims of the Holocaust and Nazi persecution. The Holocaust was the state-sponsored, systematic persecution and attempted annihilation of European Jewry by the Nazi regime and its collaborators. By the end of World War II, six million Jews had been brutally slaughtered. The United States stands shoulder to shoulder with the survivors of the Holocaust, their families, and the descendants of those who were murdered. We support the Jewish diaspora and the State of Israel as we fulfill our duty to remember the victims, honor their memory and their lives, and celebrate humanity's victory over tyranny and evil. Holocaust survivors, despite scars from history's darkest days, continue to inspire us to remember the past and learn from its lessons. By sharing their experiences and wisdom, they continue to fuel our resolve to advance human rights and to combat anti-Semitism and other forms of hatred. “During this week in 1945, American and Allied forces liberated the concentration camp at Dachau and other Nazi death camps, laying bare to the world the unconscionable horror of the Holocaust. We must remain vigilant against hateful ideologies and indifference. Every generation must learn and apply the lessons of the Holocaust so that such horror, atrocity, and genocide never again occur,” said Trump. (Arutz-7)

On Sunday night, 23 April 2017, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau issued a statement regarding Holocaust Remembrance Day. "Jewish communities and others in Canada and around the world unite to commemorate the lives of the six million Jews who were murdered by the Nazis during the Holocaust," Trudeau said. "Memorial candles will be lit to honor victims and survivors. The Mourner’s Kaddish will be repeated, reaffirming the commitment of the Jewish people to God in the face of tragedy. The atrocities carried out during the Holocaust have caused some people to ask whether it is possible to still have faith in humanity. Yom Hashoah teaches us that we must maintain that faith. To honor the victims of the Holocaust is to recognize their humanity, which no human act can erase. Today, I call on all Canadians to guard against a resurgence of anti-Semitism and racism, and to fight all forms of hatred and discrimination, whenever and wherever they occur. I extend our thoughts and prayers to all those observing Yom Hashoah." (INN)

ANTI-SEMITISM: OUT OF HIBERNATION AND TRAVELING AT WARP SPEED: After a hiatus of relative calm, anti-Semitism has been accelerating at an alarming pace across the globe. Its most ominous surge is in Europe, Australia and North America – those traditional bastions of equal rights. “These are the worst times since the Nazi era,” German Jewish leader Dieter Graumann told media sources. “It’s pure hatred against Jews, nothing else.” Europe is the seedbed of global anti-Semitism. Its roots are so deeply embedded in European culture and institutions that any type of spark can trigger a fire. Sparks fly from right-wing and left-wing extremists, nationalist political parties, radical Muslim refugees and allies, the Israel-Arab conflict, society’s discontented fringe elements, social media use – all these play a role. Like locusts lying dormant for years before emerging as a destructive horde, resurgent European anti-Semitism should surprise no one. While pockets of snobbery and racism remained, from the late ’60s to the late ’90s, a nearly global reduction in institutional anti-Semitism put Jews more at ease. Consider the change after president Barack Obama took office in 2009, and placed pro-Muslim cronies in positions of influence in government, the courts, academia and other institutions. Obama’s grip on power opened the floodgates to anti-Israel and anti-Christian expression in America. (Jerusalem Post) Intercede according to scripture on behalf of persecuted Jews across the globe: “O God our Savior; gather us and deliver us from the nations that we may give thanks to your holy name that we may glory in your praise,” 1 Chron. 16:35

ISRAEL’S SUPREME COURT PRESIDENT MIRIAM NAOR: ‘VIRULENT ANTI-SEMITISM HAS RETURNED TO EUROPE:’ I wish to begin by looking at the Diaspora, where a phenomenon as old as the Jewish people itself has returned and raised its ugly head – namely, anti-Semitism. Anti-Semitism is prejudice at its most hostile, and it has always existed. Anti-Semitism, persecution of Jews simply because they are Jews, has taken different shapes and spread throughout the course of history. It culminated in the most atrocious crime in human history – the Holocaust – in which one third of our people was obliterated. In those sinisterly dark days of the Nazi regime in Germany, the courts were complicit in both anti-Semitism and the annihilation. Indeed, the path to eradication was paved when the Jews’ civil and human rights were denied, and the Jews – all Jews, young and old, infants and women – were classified as non-human, sub-human. More than seventy years have passed since the defeat of Nazi Germany, and yet, the demon of anti-Semitism is rearing its ugly head once more in Europe, and even in the United States. When swastikas are drawn at the entrance to a kindergarten, tombstones are overturned in Jewish cemeteries – these are important events that signify an outbreak, an upturn in anti-Semitism that had lain dormant and hidden.

As a Jew, as an Israeli, and as a descendant to a family that was mostly wiped out in the Holocaust, I cannot stand by and not express my concern at the current situation. Indeed, there have been many expressions of solidarity and support from countries, international organizations and civil society organizations, which have promoted international legislation and documents against the effects of anti-Semitism. We have heard declarations from world leaders condemning it. We must be thankful for acts like these, but it is not enough. There is a need for public education worldwide, in Europe and even the United States, about human dignity and liberty. We must be constantly vigilant in our defense of democratic values consecrated with the blood of the victims of tyranny and hatred. This task is the responsibility of all branches of government everywhere, including Israel. The importance of protecting human rights is one of the most important lessons that it is incumbent upon us to learn from our history as a nation. If we fail to protect democracy, it will not be able protect us. (Jerusalem Post)

JEWS IN GERMANY FEEL GROWING THREAT OF ANTI-SEMITISM: Jews in Germany say they feel a “growing threat” of anti-Semitism, especially from Muslims but also from xenophobic far-right groups, a parliamentary report said Monday 24 April 2017. They are “increasingly concerned for their safety due to everyday experiences of anti-Semitism,” said the Independent Experts Group on Anti-Semitism. In a 2016 survey, Jewish people questioned about verbal and physical attacks against them put “Muslim persons or groups” first as the perpetrators, ahead of “people unknown” or far-right or left groups,” said the report. About 200,000 Jews live in Germany, Europe’s third largest community after Britain and France, up from only about 15,000 after the end of the Nazi Third Reich. Germany has taken in more than one million asylum seekers since 2015, many fleeing war and persecution in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. The report also said rising Jewish fears were partly due to “the growing importance of social media,” which was “key to the spread of hate speech and anti-Semitic agitation.” (Times of Israel)

USA COLLEGE CAMPUSES ARE ‘HOTBED’ OF ANTI-SEMITISM: Harassment of Jews is thriving on USA college campuses, which continue to be a “hotbed for anti-Semitism,” a new report released 24 April 2017 by Tel Aviv University’s Kantor Center for the Study of Contemporary European Jewry. Australia and the UK, saw increases of 11 and 10 percent in violent attacks in 2016, and according to the report, there has been a large-scale increase in verbal and visual anti-Semitism on social media platforms. The article disclosed that the prevalent feeling among Jews – individuals as well as communities – is an ominous one, and constitutes the most worrisome finding,” which analyzed data from 40 countries. That threatening feeling was evident on college campuses across the USA, where researchers found a 45% increase of anti-Semitism of “all forms,” particularly harassment and insults, according to the report. “In addition to acts of vandalism, groups as well as anonymous individuals, have posted racist fliers on campuses across the country.” The report cited several far-right personalities as motivators of anti-Semitism, including Richard Spencer, president of the National Policy Institute who coined the “alt-right” term, and Andrew Anglin, founder of white supremacist website The Daily Stormer.

Meanwhile, the Anti-Defamation League found that ant-Semitic incidents in the USA surged 34% last year and have increased by 865 in the first quarter of 2017, according to a report released 24 April 2017. “There’s been a significant, sustained increase in anti-Semitic activity since the start of 2016 and what’s most concerning is the fact that the numbers have accelerated over the past five months,” ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt said. Anti-Semitic incidents at non-Jewish elementary, middle and high schools increased 106% last year, with the trend accelerating in the first quarter of 2017, when 95 incidents were reported, the ADL found. “Schools are a microcosm of the country. Children absorb messages from their parents and the media, and bring them into their schools and playgrounds. We are very concerned the next generation is internalizing messages of intolerance and bigotry. Clearly, we have work to do and need to bring more urgency to the fight,” said Greenblat. (NY Post/J.Post) Intercede that university groups, instructors, leaders and individuals who promote and participate in campus anti-Semitic activities, or delegitimization campaigns against Israel, will be confronted, penalized and silenced. Pray the elementary and secondary school teachers will address anti-Semitism in their classrooms and student activities.

UN SECRETARY-GENERAL: DENIAL OF ISRAEL’S RIGHT TO EXIST IS 'MODERN FORM OF ANTI-SEMITISM': UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres told the World Jewish Congress on 23 April 2017, "A modern form of anti-Semitism is the denial of the right of the State of Israel to exist. As secretary-general of the United Nations I can say that the State of Israel needs to be treated as any other state, with exactly the same rules." He said he supports "the absolutely undeniable right of Israel to exist and to live in peace and security with its neighbors. You can be absolutely sure, as secretary-general of the United Nations, I will be in the front line of the struggle against anti-Semitism, and to make sure the United Nations is able to take all possible actions for anti-Semitism to be condemned and, if possible, eradicated from the face of the earth." JNN News Update April 24, 2017

ANNUAL HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY BEGINS IN ISRAEL: The official Opening Ceremony for Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Day took place on Sunday 23 April 2017, at 8pm at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem. Dignitaries spoke, and six Holocaust survivors lit torches in memory of the 6 million Jews murdered by the Nazis. The "Holocaust" refers to the period from 30 January 1933, when Hitler became Chancellor of Germany, to 8 May 1945, the end of the war in Europe. Millions of Jewish men, women and children were murdered by Hitler and his brutal cohorts during this time. While it is impossible to ascertain the exact number of Jewish victims six million is the round figure. Auschwitz concentration camp was a network of concentration and death camps built and operated by the Third Reich in Polish areas annexed by Nazi Germany during World War II. Buchenwald was a German Nazi concentration camp established near Weimar, Germany, in July 1937, one of the first and largest of the concentration camps on German soil. It was in holes such as these that Jewish victims were starved, tortured, subjected to slave labor, beatings, inhumane medical experiments and murdered in gas chambers by the millions. Elderly Holocaust survivors in Israel suffer mental and physical torments to this day. Their children bear traumatic scars as a result of being raised by such emotionally and physically shattered parents. (JNN/Ynet) Pray that this deeply needy and still emotionally-tormented segment of Israel’s society will be comforted, cheered and receive provision so desperately needed to live and finish their lives with dignity and honor.

COMPTROLLER: STATE OVERLOOKING HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS: State Comptroller Yosef Shapira days ago published a special report prior to Holocaust Remembrance day on the matter of state assistance to Holocaust survivors. Shapira said that at present there are 158,000 Israeli citizens eligible for benefits as sufferers of Nazi persecution as well as 56,000 more citizens who suffered anti-Semitic and racist attacks during World War II. Their average age is 85 and every month about 1000 of them pass away. The report stated that the legislation applying to survivors is complex and changes from time to time in a disorganized fashion. Most of the survivors do not know how to search for information on the Internet and are not proficient in Hebrew and therefore do not understand their rights. Most of the Holocaust survivors who arrived in the 90s from the former Soviet republic do not have pensions or any other economic base besides minimal government allocations. This sector, representing a quarter of Holocaust survivors, is not heard from and they live in poverty. Many of the aging survivors require help as their residences are not suitable for them in their present state. The Authority has no comprehensive data about the places of residence of the survivors and doesn’t know how many are waiting for public housing. The comptroller also touched upon other issues, including the need to establish proper social infrastructure for Holocaust survivors as well as providing welfare services, health care and social activities which could mitigate the loneliness suffered by many survivors. The comptroller concluded that despite the fact that governmental and non-governmental sources are working to fill the gaps in various aspects of life for which survivors require assistance, there is a need for a guiding hand from above for all of the activities and this must be provided immediately. (Arutz-7)

ALLIED FORCES KNEW ABOUT THE HOLOCAUST TWO YEARS BEFORE DISCOVERY OF CONCENTRATION CAMPS, SECRET DOCUMENTS REVEAL: The Allied Powers were aware of the scale of the Jewish Holocaust two-and-a-half years earlier than is generally assumed, and had even prepared war crimes indictments against Adolf Hitler and his top Nazi commanders. Newly accessed material from the UN - not seen for 70 years - shows that as early as December 1942, the USA, UK and Soviet governments were aware that at least two million Jews had been murdered and a further five million were at risk of being killed. Despite this, the Allied Powers did very little to try and rescue or provide sanctuary to those in mortal danger. Professor Dan Plesch of SOAS University of London, author of the newly published Human Rights After Hitler, said the major powers began drawing up war crimes charges based on witness testimony smuggled from the camps and from the resistance movements in various countries occupied by the Nazis. "The major powers commented on the mass murder of Jews two-and-a-half years before it is generally assumed, in December 1942." In that same month, UK Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden told the British parliament: "The German authorities, not content with denying to persons of Jewish race in all the territories over which their barbarous rule extends, the most elementary human rights, are now carrying into effect Hitler's oft-repeated intention to exterminate the Jewish people." (UK Independent)

YALE TO GIVE GANDHI PEACE AWARD TO BDS FOUNDER: Yale University will grant the Gandhi Peace Award to BDS founder Omar Barghouti. Barghouti has justified acts of terrorism against Israelis, defending the Palestinians’ right to "resistance by any means, including armed resistance." His supporters claim that the BDS movement seeks a peaceful solution. However, Barghoti says "Israel has no right to exist" and denies that Jews are the aboriginal people of their country. He also denies the Jewish people have a right to self-determination. They are not a people, he declaimed, and the UN’s principle of the right to self-determination applies only to colonized people who want to acquire their rights. While Barghouti insists Palestinians must have "the right to have rights," he denies the Jewish people have any collective rights. Another lie spread by Barghouti is that Israeli soldiers shoot Palestinian children "for sport," claiming they "provoke" the children, "entice them like mice, and then shoot them" for no reason. Often, it is just because the soldiers are "bored." In fact, the IDF is the most humane army in the world, often passing up opportunities to kill wanted terrorists in order to prevent innocent victims from being injured or killed. Additionally, IDF staff often do "random" acts of kindness towards Israel's sworn enemies. Barghouti also claimed there were Jews in the government of Nazi Germany, and that Israel steals Palestinian water. Israel actually gives Palestinians 30% more water than it agreed to give in the Oslo Accords. (INN) Pray according to scripture: “Deliver my soul, O Lord from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue,” Ps 120:2.

NETANYAHU: PALESTINIANS MUST PROVE THEY WANT PEACE: Israel’s PM Netanyahu said on 20 April 2017 that if the Palestinians truly desire peace with Israel, they must first "come clean" and put an end to "rewarding terrorism." During a interview with Fox News television host Sean Hannity, Netanyahu claimed that the Palestinian Authority, lead by Mahmoud Abbas, has spent much of the financial aid they receive on paying terrorist and their families at the expense of the American tax-payer. "I think the first test of peace is to say to them, 'Hey, you want peace? Prove it. Confront terrorism, stop rewarding terrorism, stop paying terrorists,'" Netanyahu said from his office in Jerusalem. "It could be more than a billion dollars that are given to terrorists," Netanyahu continued. "I'm not talking about Hamas. I'm talking about the mainline Palestinian Authority headed by president Mahmoud Abbas, who is going to see USA President Trump in Washington." Since the mid-1990s, the USA has donated more than $5 billion "in bilateral economic and non-lethal security assistance to the Palestinians," with $327.6 million coming in aid last year, according to the USA Congressional Research Service, a public policy research arm of the United States Congress. It is unclear how much of that aid has been used to make payments to terrorists, but according to the official daily newspaper of the Palestinian National Authority, Al-Hayat al-Jadida, as of 2011 over 4,500 Palestinian prisoners receive a monthly salary between NIS 2,400 ($652) to NIS 12,000 ($3260). (Fox)

STOP SUPPORTING PALESTINIAN TERROR: Since the "Middle East Peace Process" began in 1993 with the Oslo Accords, the USA has permitted the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Palestinian Authority (PA) to get away with fostering, celebrating, and honoring murder. It's time to end this scandalous American policy and insist that the Palestinians meet standards we would apply to any other aid recipients anywhere else in the world. Palestinian official bodies celebrate those who kill Israelis by naming streets, schools, and parks after them. The message to young Palestinians is clear: This is the behavior we honor and these are the models you should follow. Moreover, the PA and PLO pay money to those who commit crimes of violence against Israelis - and the greater the crime, the more you get paid. There is a sliding scale, and the longer your sentence, the higher the stipend. Issa Abed Rabbo, who shot to death two Hebrew University students he found hiking, and Abu-Musa Atia, who used an axe to murder Isaac Rotenberg, an elderly Holocaust survivor, are getting $3,500 a month.

There is growing support in Congress for the Taylor Force Act, named after an American student and USA Army veteran who was murdered last year by a Palestinian terrorist. It would restrict funds "available for assistance for Judea & Samaria and Gaza" unless the president certified that the PA was "taking credible steps to end acts of violence against Israeli citizens" and that it had "terminated payments for acts of terrorism against Israeli citizens." There will never be peace if generation after generation of Palestinian youth are reared to honor terrorists. The greatest barrier to peace is a Palestinian political culture that elevates violence against Israelis above any positive achievements. Perhaps a majority of Palestinians would rather forgo the assistance than stop honoring terrorists like Taylor Force's killer as "martyrs." But we will have taken a stand; we will have made it clear that we find such conduct intolerable. (National Review)

REPORT: ISRAEL STRUCK GOVERNMENT ARMY BASES IN SYRIA: Arab media on Sunday morning 23 April 2017, reported that Israel struck a military base under the control of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's forces. According to Al Mayadeen TV, three people were killed and two were injured in the attack. On Friday 21 April 2017, just before the Sabbath, air raid sirens sounded in various locations in Israel's Golan, and shortly thereafter two mortar shells were found in Israeli territory. No one was injured and no damage was caused. In an earlier air strike on Friday, a mortar shell was found in an open area in the northern Golan Heights. The IDF attacked the Syrian sites from which the mortars were fired. The incident is the latest example of the Syrian war spilling over into northern Israel. (Aurtz-7) “Let us watch and be sober,” 1 Thess 5:6. Continue to intercede for the protection of Israel’s northern and southern borders.

JNN News Update April 20, 2017

PALESTINIANS IN ISRAELI JAILS BEGIN HUNGER STRIKE: Over 1,500 Palestinians held in eight Israeli jails on security offenses - out of a total of 6,500 Palestinians incarcerated in Israeli prisons on terrorist related charges - have entered into a hunger strike. The leadership of the strike is being credited to Marwan Barghouti, the popular head of the Fatah Tanzim, who is serving five consecutive life sentences for terrorist murders. Barghouti is often mentioned prominently in lists of possible successors to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, who is now 82. The purpose of the strike is ostensibly to protest prison conditions, to receive more visitation time with family and to end detention without trial, but a number of observers see the effort as part of a Barghouti run for PA leadership. Israeli officials were livid with the NY Times after it published an op-ed by Barghouti on 16 April 2017 in synch with the start of the strike and omitting any reference to his incarceration being the result of multiple murder convictions. After an uproar broke out, the newspaper finally published a tepid clarification in which it stated that “This article explained the writer’s prison sentence but neglected to provide sufficient context by stating the offenses of which he was convicted. They were five counts of murder and membership in a terrorist organization. Barghouti declined to offer a defense at his trial and refused to recognize the Israeli court’s jurisdiction and legitimacy.”

Israeli Minister of Public Security Gilad Erdan said he believes the strike is politically motivated and that the prisoners have no legitimate complaints. "These are terrorists and incarcerated murderers who are getting exactly what the international law requires," he told Israel's Army Radio. “There is no reason to give them additional conditions in addition to what they already receive." Erdan said Barghouti was transferred to another prison in northern Israel and was placed in solitary confinement. "It doesn't have to do with publishing the article in the New York Times but rather that he is instigating mutiny and leading the hunger strike and that is a severe violation of the rules of the prison," he said. (Medialine/AP/Ha’aretz) The timing is no accident, as Barghouti leads an organized Palestinian prisoners’ hunger strike meant to draw public attention and portray terrorists as political prisoners held by Israel to stifle Palestinian aspirations. And the New York Times has gone along with this charade by giving Barghouti a prime-time billing.

PM NETANYAHU, ISRAELI POLITICIANS ACROSS THE POLITICAL SPECTRUM, SLAM NY TIMES FOR BARGHOUTI OP-ED: Calling imprisoned Fatah terrorist Marwan Barghouti a Palestinian leader and parliamentarian is like calling Syrian President Assad a pediatrician, Israeli PM Netanyahu stated on Tues. 18 April 2017. "These are murderers, these are terrorists and we will not lose clarity.” The prime minister added that "this moral clarity, the willingness to protect our land, to fight for it against those coming to wipe us out, is one of our great strengths, together with love of Israel. Love of Israel expresses itself in this munificence, in this beauty and warmth. We will continue to develop our country and protect it." Israeli politicians from across the political spectrum fiercely condemned The NY Times on Mon. 17 April 2017 for publishing an op-ed by Barghouti that neglected to mention that he is in prison for murder, not his political views. Barghouti was convicted in June 2004 of five murders and an attempted murder, including that of a Greek Orthodox priest he mistook for a rabbi. He was sentenced to five consecutive life sentences and 40 additional years in prison. But the newspaper’s tagline on the article called him a Palestinian leader and parliamentarian.

Deputy Minister Michael Oren compared Barghouti to Dylann Roof, an American mass murderer and white supremacist convicted of killing nine people in the June 2015 Charleston church shooting. “Shame on NYT for printing libelous op-ed by convicted killer Barghouti, the Palestinian Dylann Roof,” Oren wrote on Twitter. “Americans would be horrified. So are we.” Bayit Yehudi chairman Naftali Bennett posted on Facebook a picture of Yoela Chen, a mother of two who was murdered at a gas station on her way to a wedding by terrorists under orders from Barghouti. Bennett noted that as the commander of Fatah’s Tanzim paramilitary offshoot, Barghouti was behind the murders of dozens of Israelis. “Barghouti is not just an enemy,” Bennett wrote. “He is a lowly murderer who should rot in prison until the day he dies.” (J.Post)

HOTOVELY: NY TIMES HAS PROVIDED A PLATFORM FOR TERRORISTS: Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely responded to the publication of Marwan Barghouti's article in the NY Times by saying, "Barghouti is not a prisoner. He is a convicted murderer and a terrorist. The New York Times has provided a platform for a terrorist without noting that he planned and carried out the cold blooded murder of Jews simply for having been Jews." She concluded, "This is not a matter of freedom of speech. It is anarchy. When a major newspaper with a reputation for responsible journalism becomes a platform for murderers, it provides legitimacy for terrorism. This is a very disappointing decision by the editors which seriously undermines the credibility of the New York Times." (INN)

ISRAELI MK AND LEADER OF THE YESH ATID PARTY, YAIR LAPID, CONDEMNS THE NY TIMES: Marwan Barghouti doesn’t only believe in violence, he also believes that it’s permissible to lie. He believes in the approach, which typifies terror organizations, that the West is weak and naïve and so our media and good intentions should be cynically abused to attack us from within. The attempt by the New York Times “to be balanced” amuses Barghouti. He understands that this sacred attempt at balance creates equal standing between murderer and murdered, terrorist and victim, lie and truth. So Barghouti tells horror stories about torture he underwent during Israeli investigations. There is no factual basis for these stories. The torture he describes is prohibited under Israeli law and even Israel’s greatest opponents must acknowledge that we abide by our laws. The reality is that a convicted terrorist is inventing stories about those who imprison him, as prisoners do all over the world, including in the United States. Instead of saying to him – as a responsible newspaper should – that if he doesn’t have a shred of evidence to support his stories then they can’t be published, the NY Times published them in its opinion pages and didn’t even bother to explain that the author is a convicted murderer of the worst kind. (Honest Reporting)

‘I WILL NOT FORGET THE JOY WHEN BARGHOUTI WAS ARRESTED’: Uri Schechter, IDF Lieutenant Colonel in the reserves and Deputy Commander of the Nahal Brigade, wrote in his Facebook account about the capture of terrorist chief Marwan Barghouti in Operation Defensive Shield. Barghouti is now leading the hunger strike of terrorists imprisoned in Israeli jails. Shechter wrote: "Exactly 15 years ago, I was drafted as a deputy battalion commander for Operation Defensive Shield, which we commenced following the murder of hundreds of Jews and the wounding of thousands," recalls Schechter. "During the operation, my brigade occupied the city of Ramallah, where we arrested about 700 terrorists. "I will not forget the joy when the Duvedevan undercover unit arrested the head of the serpent, Marwan Barghouti, who was responsible for a large part of the attacks directly. We felt at that defining moment that the operation had achieved its goal." According to him, Barghouti "got off cheap" and was convicted in the District Court for five life sentences and 40 years in prison. "So how does he become legitimate to some people and politicians? I just don't understand. I wish the despicable murderer to go with his hunger strike to the very end," wrote Schechter. (Arutz-7)

NYT PUBLIC EDITOR CHIDES FAILURE TO IDENTIFY AUTHOR AS MURDERER: The Public Editor of the NY Times took the newspaper to task for failing to identify Palestinian Authority leader Marwan Barghouti as a convicted murderer of Israeli Jews. Public Editor Liz Spayd was responding to criticism of the newspaper for publishing on 16 April 2017 an Op-Ed by Barghouti titled “Why We Are on Hunger Strike in Israel’s Prisons” and identifying him only as “a Palestinian leader and parliamentarian.” Nearly a day later, an editor’s note appended to the end of the opinion piece clarified that Barghouti is serving a lengthy prison term after being convicted in an Israeli court of five counts of murder and membership in a terrorist organization. Failure to “more fully identify the biography and credentials of authors, especially details that help people make judgments about the opinions they’re reading,” Spayd wrote, “risks the credibility of the author and the Op-Ed pages.” The newspaper was slammed by Israeli leaders and USA Jewish groups for its failure to mention Barghouti’s terrorist activities and conviction for murder. (Arutz-7)

NO BARGHOUTI OPTION: In fact, the real impetus for the hunger strike seems not to be about prisoners’ rights at all, but rather it is a political initiative designed to promote Marwan Barghouti. When security prisoners go on a hunger strike, they are usually motivated by discontent with their incarceration. Ostensibly, a demand for improved conditions is what sparked the open-ended hunger strike launched by convicted Palestinian terrorists being held in Israeli prisons for murder or other forms of violence or support for violence. Judging from their demands – public phones in the security wards, reinstating a second visiting period each month and restarting academic studies programs so that prisoners can receive academic degrees – the situation is not all that bad. These prisoners might not be able to earn advanced degrees or use the phone whenever they want to and they might have to wait a month to meet loved ones. But it is doubtful that terrorists held in Gouantanamo Bay, in European prisons or in those of democratic countries in the Far East receive any better conditions – particularly not terrorists who murdered innocent civilians.

In fact, the real impetus for the hunger strike seems not to be about prisoners’ rights at all, but rather it is a political initiative designed to promote Marwan Barghouti, probably the single most popular Palestinian political leader despite his sentencing 15 years ago for five life terms for murder plus another 40 years. In a March 2017 survey conducted by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Research, Barghouti garnered more support than any other Palestinian presidential candidate. In a standoff against Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, the second most popular candidate, Barghouti received 59% of the vote. Barghouti is a savvy political manipulator who has managed to remain relevant despite his incarceration a decade and a half ago. He is using the Palestinian prisoners as his latest ploy for self-advancement. It is depressing that a man like Barghouti, with the blood of so many victims on his hands, has consistently been the most popular candidate to lead the Palestinian people. And it is not despite his murderously violent past, but precisely because of it, that Barghouti is able to beat a Hamas candidate for the Palestinian vote. This is the sad state of radicalized Palestinian politics that is the real obstacle to peace. (J.Post) Intercede that Barghouti’s political manipulations will not succeed. Pray that the present hunger strike on the part of jailed Palestinian terrorists will fizzle out rather than achieving the strike’s objective to again cast Palestinian murderers as being the victims of alleged Israeli injustice - rather than the other way around.

RECORD-BREAKING NUMBER OF TOURISTS ENTER ISRAEL IN THE FIRST QUARTER OF 2017: A record-breaking 739,000 tourists entered Israel in the first quarter of 2017, adding 5,000 new jobs and injecting 4 billion shekels ($1 billion) into the country's economy. According to new data from price comparison site HotelsCombined, there was a 157% increase in hotel bookings from Hong Kong compared to last year. Hotel bookings by Italians were up 139%, South Africans 134%, South Koreans 116% and Finns 116%. The site noted that bookings by both Spaniards and Austrians increased 78% and that Turkish bookings increased 12% compared to last year. The sharp increase in tourism comes despite the strengthening shekel, which serves to make Israel an especially expensive tourist destination, financial daily Globes reported. (Israel Ha’yom) “Behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people; But the Lord will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you. The Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.” Isa. 60: 2-3

50,000 TOURISTS AND ONE MARRIAGE PROPOSAL: The Samaria Regional Council reported its feeling of satisfaction after two days filled with various festivals and holiday events in honor of Passover's intermediate days. Over 50,000 visitors flocked to Samaria, flying kites at Mount Gerizim's national park, "meeting" King Herod in the national park in ancient Samaria, hiking on "Israel's porch" and tasting wine at prize-winning Samaria wineries. On Thurs. 13 April 2017, Israeli musician Ariel Zilber gave a musical performance, and thousands of people visited tourist sites in northern Samaria, and participated in the spring celebrations marking 50 years since the liberation of the Dotan Valley where the Bible relates that the young Joseph looked for his brothers. Among the visitors was David Shapira, who proposed to his girlfriend Racheli at the Tura Winery in the town of Rehelim. Samaria Regional Council Head Yossi Dagan said, "The growth of Samaria's tourism industry is nothing less than a renaissance. Every year, the number of visitors to Samaria grows. We've had visitors from France, China, Canada, and all over Israel. They all come to enjoy the unique tourist sites in Samaria. It's a feast for the eyes to see them." (Arutz-7)

ISRAELI MIRACLE SURGERY HELPS CHILD HEAR FOR THE FIRST TIME: For the first time in Israel, Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek Medical Center performed an advanced brainstem implant. The patient was a five-year-old boy born deaf because he lacked an auditory nerve, the hospital announced on 14 April 2017. Prof. Thomas Roland, head of the department of otolaryngology, and colleagues at New York University Langone Medical Center came especially from Manhattan to help perform the unusual operation with Shaare Zedek ear-nose-and-throat surgeons, neurosurgeons and speech therapists. Since the development of cochlear implants, the number of deaf people in the world has declined significantly, and in most cases, the implant connects well with the auditory nerve and allows the deaf to hear. The implant is particularly successful in babies who were born deaf and are transplanted at an early age. It is also performed in adults who had normal hearing in the past but became deaf for various reasons. The operation was successful, and after the placement of the implant, appropriate electrical responses were received. The boy recovered well and was released home. The doctors who participated are very optimistic that the child’s ability to speak and communicate with his surroundings will improve over time. (J.Post)

BRITISH WOMAN KILLED, 2 OTHERS WOUNDED IN JERUSALEM TERRORIST STABBING: A young British woman visiting Israel was killed on Friday 14 April 2017, and two Israelis were wounded in a stabbing attack by a Palestinian Arab terrorist aboard Jerusalem’s light rail. As the commuter train passed through the center of Jerusalem, the terrorist began stabbing the 25-year-old British woman multiple times in the upper body. Off-duty police officers and civilians were quick to react and wrestled the terrorist to the ground. An older Israeli man hurt his leg while trying to flee the scene, and a pregnant woman riding the train suffered light abdominal injuries when it came to a sudden emergency stop. The terrorist was identified as a 57-year-old Palestinian Arab from a nearby village. (Israel Today) Continue to pray against terrorist attacks in and around Israel’s capital city, Jerusalem. WHY DOES ISRAEL NEED TO PREPARE FOR ANOTHER WAR WITH HAMAS THIS SUMMER? Israel Construction and Housing Minister Yoav Gallant on Sunday morning 16 April 2017, said there will be no choice other than to enter another war with Hamas. He warned Israelis to prepare for such a conflict during the coming summer. Why does the Hamas terrorist organization, which rules the Gaza Strip, keep engaging Israel in hopeless wars every few years? Part of the answer perhaps lies in the word “hudna.” It is an Arabic expression often translated as “cease-fire", which has little to do with establishing peace with one’s neighbor. Historically it was a strategy which allowed the party declaring the hudna to regroup and rearm, while the enemy was off-guard. The term comes from the story of the Muslim conquest of Mecca. Unable to carry off an immediate victory, Muhammad made a ten-year treaty with the Kuraysh tribe. In 628 AD, after only two years of the “ten-year treaty”, Muhammad and his forces reasoned the Kuraysh were too weak to resist. The Muslims broke the truce and took over all of Mecca without opposition. According to Umdat as-Salik, a medieval summary of Shafi'i jurisprudence: “If Muslims are weak, a truce may be made for ten years if necessary, for the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) made a truce with the Kuraysh for that long, as is related by Abu Dawud.” ('Umdat as-Salik, o9.16). The condition for Muslims making a truce with its enemy is weakness. Hamas is weak and always looking for ways to regroup and once again become strong to the detriment of Israel. Terrorist leaders reigning in Gaza admittedly are not looking for peace with the Jewish state - rather to destroy it. Even an extended “cease-fire,” means only time enough to dig new terrorist tunnels and build up the arsenals against Israel – all in preparation to again “shoot oneself in the foot” and stumble around for the next half decade. (JNN)

6,500 SECURITY-RELATED PRISONERS ARE SITTING IN ISRAELI JAILS: With "Palestinian Prisoners' Day" on 17 April 2017, the Association for Prisoners and Freed Prisoners, and the Central Statistics Office provided statistics on the number of security-related prisoners sitting in Israeli jails. According to the statistics, Israeli jails house 6,500 security-related prisoners, among them 57 women and 300 minors. Since 28 September 2000, when the Second Intifada began, nearly 100,000 Palestinian Arabs were arrested, among them 1,500 minors and 70 Palestinian Authority officials and former officials. In addition, 27,000 administrative detention orders were issued. All of these prisoners were involved in terror attacks, either directly murdering innocent civilians, attempting to murder innocent civilians, or aiding and abetting direct murderers. Their numbers are a testament to the unchanged desire of Palestinian Arabs to kill Israeli Jews and to their undying hope of wiping Israel off the map. 44 of the prisoners have spent more than 20 years in jail, and 29 of those were arrested before the Oslo Accords, now admittedly a failure, were signed in 1993. Nearly 500 prisoners are under administrative arrest. Arab organizations claim 210 terrorists died during their stay in Israeli jails.

The Palestinian Authority pays a monthly salary to terrorists. This salary rises with each year the terrorists spend in jail and is in proportion to the violence of the crime. The terrorists also receive a grant from the PA upon their release from prison. Arab terrorists have said they enjoyed a life of ease in Israeli prisons, with officials admitting that various perks are given to the terrorists in an attempt to prevent rioting. Terrorists once could pursue an academic degree during their terms in Israeli prisons. Although this is now against the law, academic studies have continued. In 2011, it was revealed that the terrorist prisoners' favorite course was "Genocide". (Arutz-7)

HALF OF RELEASED PALESTINIAN PRISONERS HAVE RETURNED TO TERRORISM: Mazen Fuqha, the Hamas official killed in late March 2017 in Gaza, planned to turn this year’s Passover holiday into a bloodbath for Israelis. Fuqha, who was released as part of the 2011 Shalit prisoner exchange, headed Hamas' "West Bank headquarters" and was responsible for establishing a number of terrorist cells across Judea & Samaria. Israeli defense officials believe the Passover attacks planned by Hamas would have include the abduction of an Israeli soldier or civilian, in order to force Israel to release hundreds of Palestinian security prisoners not included in the Shalit deal. Fuqha was sentenced to life in prison and an additional 50 years for planning a suicide bombing on a bus in northern Israel in 2002, where nine Israelis were killed. But in 2011, Fuqaha was released from prison as part of a prisoner exchange deal to free Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. The Shalit deal saw the release of 1,027 prisoners collectively responsible for the murder of 569 Israelis. This infused Hamas' leadership with new blood, including its new leader, Yahya Sinwar. Defense officials today believe that 50% of those released in 2011 are currently involved in terrorist activity. (JNN/Israel Hayom) Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas even this month told USA President Trump that there will be no peace talks “without a complete settlement freeze in Judea & Samaria and east Jerusalem” and “a limited release of prisoners serving time in Israeli jails for terrorism.” Hundreds of terrorists have been released over the years from Israeli jails in good will gestures to PA President Abbas and the Palestinian Authority. Each prisoner, upon release, signed a vow to cease acts of violence against the Jewish State. Weeks later, even days later, many released prisoners were again implicated in terrorist attacks or plots against the Jewish state. Intercede that these unreasonable conditions on the part of the PA will never again be agreed upon by the Israeli government.

IRAN’S AHMADINEJAD IN BID TO RECLAIM PRESIDENCY: Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the former Iranian president who was a disruptive figure both in and out of office, and who was told by the Ayatollah himself not to run for office, has decided to make a run for his old office and challenge incumbent Hassan Rouhami for the presidency. When Ahmadinejad ran for re-election in 2009, his victory was questioned and triggered riots in the streets that resulted in deaths and mass imprisonment of opponents. On the world front, the former president was known for making outlandish threats against Israel and the United States including predictions that the Jewish state will cease to exist within a short period of time. Regarding the Supreme Ruler’s well-known position on his run for the presidency, Ahmadinejad dismissed the comments as a “suggestion” rather than an edict. All citizens wishing to run for office are signing up with the Guardian Council which is responsible for vetting the names and promulgating a candidate list. Women who sign up to run for office – and a number have already done so – are typically dropped from the Guardian Council’s final list. (Medialine)

SRAELI START-UP EXTRACTING WATER FROM AIR, AROUND THE WORLD: From the remote corners of India to the palm-lined streets of Miami-Dade County, one Israeli company is aiming to do the unthinkable – extract safe, inexpensive potable water from the air we breathe. “We created a product that can really be the next source of drinking water,” Maxim Pasik, executive chairman of Rishon Lezion-based Water Gen, told Israeli media sources on 13 April 2017. Water Gen made headlines at the AIPAC Policy Conference in Washington two weeks ago, when Prof. Alan Dershowitz presented the company’s GENius device, generating water out of thin air on stage. Just days earlier, the company had signed a memorandum of understanding to install its technology in Vietnam’s capital city, while days later, the firm inked another memorandum with India’s Vikram Solar Pvt. Ltd., to deploy solar powered Water Gen units in remote parts of the subcontinent. “All these countries that have the water shortages have a humid and hot climate,” Pasik said. “We take all the humidity from the air and extract the water.”

The memorandum of understanding signed with the Hanoi Department of Construction calls for the construction of a Water Gen factory, to produce industrial-scale water generators for the municipality, with a total capacity of up to 10,000 liters of water per day. “Our solution is 20 times cheaper than the solution for drinking water that they have,” Pasik said. “And what they drink is not healthy.” Yet Water Gen’s reach is by no means limited to the developing world. The products have recently generated interested in several Gulf countries, in Egypt, in Mexico and across the United States, Pasik said. In the USA, Water Gen is operating a pilot study in Miami-Dade County and is in talks with various entities in California, Chicago and Michigan, he added. Pasik said that in the future, technologies like Water Gen’s devices will have the capacity to prevent wars and foster peace, in regions where people are fighting for access to clean water. Gen 12:2 ISRAELIS SPEND 3.77 BILLION NIS ON PRE- PASSOVER CREDIT PURCHASES: Data from the automated bank services company which operates the central clearing system for Israeli credit cards has revealed that in the week before Passover Israelis spent some 830 million shekels on credit card transactions in food chains. This represents a 9.28% reduction compared with the same pre-Passover period in 2016 in which 915 million shekels were spent. The entire credit card purchase sum in all branches during the week preceding Passover was 3.77 billion NIS, as opposed to 3.73 billion NIS in the corresponding period last year - a rise of 0.9%. The heaviest volume of transactions fell on the Friday before Passover, with 495,000 transactions completed in the hour between 10 A.M. and 11 A.M. (Arutz-7) The exchange rate in Israel, if anyone wants to do the math, is 3.65 NIS to the USA dollar. Suffice it to say, 3.77 billion NIS, (close to a billion dollars), is a lot of groceries and goods!

FIRST –EVER VISIT TO ISRAEL BY INDIAN PRIME MINISTER SET FOR EARLY JULY: Indian PM Narendra Modi’s long-awaited visit to Israel will take place on 5-6 July 2017. According to the Hindustan Times, Modi will come to Israel – a first-ever visit by an India prime minister – on his way to take part in the G-20 Summit in Hamburg on 7- 8 July. The paper reported that G. Mohan Kumar, India’s defense secretary – which is the equivalent in Israel to the Defense Ministry’s director-general – will visit as well in late April 2017, for a working group meeting on military cooperation that will help prepare for Modi’s visit. Modi, in a break from previous high profile visits to Israel by senior Indian officials, is not expected to visit the Palestinian Authority. According to the report in the Hindustan Times, “though Israel is among the top four military hardware suppliers to India, with more than $1 billion in annual sales to New Delhi, the Modi government is keen to ensure that this visit is not focused on defense ties alone, but encompasses long-term economic and technological cooperation, resulting in a free-trade agreement.” The paper said that Modi’s visit will “be an open acknowledgment of India’s close ties with the Jewish state, and also pave the way for transfer of high-end agricultural technologies that will benefit Indian farmers.” In Feb. 2017 Modi approved a $2.5 billion missile deal with Israel. USA DROPS LARGEST CONVENTIONAL BOMB ON ISIS FORCES IN AFGHANISTAN: American forces in Afghanistan dropped a 22,000-pound GBU-43 bomb on ISIS forces in eastern Afghanistan on Thur. 13 April 2017, the Pentagon announced. A spokesman for USA forces in Afghanistan said ISIS in Afghanistan had lost more than half its territory and had 800 fighters spread between two provinces. At the group's height in Afghanistan, it had more than 3,000 fighters. The USA has 8,500 troops in Afghanistan, and has carried out more than 400 airstrikes on ISIS since the start of the year. There are also about 7,000 NATO troops in the country. As many as 36 suspected ISIS terrorists were killed in Thursday’ s USA attack. USA President Trump lauded the mission and said he had authorized the military to act. “If you look at what’s happened over the last eight weeks and compare that to what’s happened over the past eight years, you’ll see there’s a tremendous difference,” Trump said. Asked if the bombing sent a message to North Korea, Trump was unusually equivocal. “I don’t know if this sends a message. It doesn’t make any difference if it does or not. North Korea is a problem, the problem will be taken care of,” he said. White House spokesman Sean Spicer said the military took all precautions to prevent civilian casualties. “The United States takes the fight against ISIS very seriously, and in order to defeat the group, we must deny them operational space, which we did,” Spicer said. REPORT: HEZBOLLAH EVACUATING POSITIONS NEAR ISRAEL’S GOLAN HEIGHTS: Hezbollah forces have begun to evacuate territory near Syria's Golan region, not far from the Israeli border, after the USA State Department demanded that the Lebanese terror organization immediately leave the area, Syrian news agency Al-Ittihad reported on 13 April 2017. The report added that Hezbollah fighters began clearing their stronghold in the Qalamun Mountains nearly a week before the USA military conducted airstrikes against Syrian President Assad's air force on 6 April 2017. Al-Ittihad did not say why the terrorists left their positions on the eastern Syrian border region. According to the Syrian publication, at least 300 Hezbollah fighters have abandoned 14 positions in the Quneitra area, which sits in near proximity to Israel's Golan territory. The terrorists left with tanks, armored vehicles and heavy weapons as they made their way toward the Syrian capital of Damascus. USA State Department spokesman Mark Toner on 11 April 2017 addressed the threat the terrorist organization poses against the United States and its allies, demanding that they withdraw their forces and refrain carrying "on military operations in Syria in support of the Assad regime. Hezbollah forces have helped the Syrian government implement its brutality against its own people and also caused instability in Lebanon," Toner added. (J. Post)

TRUMP REVOKES OBAMA’S PARTING GIFT TO PLANNED PARENTHOOD: States in the USA will once again be able to defund Planned Parenthood after President Trump overturned an 11th-hour Obama administration regulation protecting funding for the nation's biggest abortion provider. Trump signed into law on Thurs.13 April, a bill reversing a Department of Health and Human Services regulation signed in Dec. 2017 that prevented states from blocking funding for Planned Parenthood. Obama's regulation reversed the policies of more than a dozen states that had prevented federal Medicaid dollars or other federal reimbursements from going to clinics that perform abortions. Trump signed the legislation one month after he said that he would continue to direct taxpayer dollars to Planned Parenthood if it stopped performing abortions. The organization performs more than 300,000 abortions each year - about one-third of the national total. The Trump administration’s resolution is considered part of a larger Republican-led effort to defund Planned Parenthood. The American Health Care Act called for partially slashing funds dedicated to the group, which is criticized by for providing abortion services. USA DOCTOR CHARGED WITH GENITAL MUTILATION PROCEDURE ON GIRLS AGED SIX TO EIGHT: A USA doctor in Detroit has been arrested and charged with carrying out female genital mutilation on girls aged six to eight, prosecutors said on Thur. 13 April 2017. Emergency room doctor Jumana Nagarwala, 44, of Northville Michigan, is accused of carrying out the widely condemned practice - illegal in the United States - for 12 years from a medical office in Livonia, Michigan. She appeared in a USA federal court in Detroit on Thurs. If convicted at trial she faces a maximum sentence of life behind bars. Congress passed a law in 1996 making it illegal to perform genital mutilation or cutting in the United States on anyone under the age of 18. Twenty-five USA states also have laws prohibiting the practice. Prosecutors in Michigan say they believe it is the first case of its kind brought under the federal law. Some of Nagarwala’s victims traveled from outside Michigan and were told not to talk about the procedure, prosecutors said. “Dr Nagarwala is alleged to have performed horrifying acts of brutality on the most vulnerable victims,” said acting Assistant Attorney General Kenneth Blanco. “The Department of Justice is committed to stopping female genital mutilation in this country, and will use the full power of the law to ensure that no girls suffer such physical and emotional abuse.” (Times of Israel)

ANTI-SEMITISM SHARPLY INCREASED ON SEVERAL COLLEGE CAMPUSES IN 2016: A pro-Israel organization has released a report that finds anti-Semitism sharply increased on several college campuses in 2016. The report from the AMCHA Initiative shows that anti-Semitic activity skyrocketed by 40 percent last year at the college and university campuses with the largest number of Jewish students. Tammi Rossman Benjamin with the AMCHA Initiative wasn’t surprised by the finding. “I guess it’s not surprising because of the current climate in the country in general – but surprising to find it on campus and not necessarily from the traditional, classic anti-Semitic sources,” she shares. According to the report, while the number of anti-Semitic incidents increased, the total number of schools affected did not – “indicating that a select number of schools are experiencing surges” in such activity. The report identifies seven schools having the largest increase in anti-Semitic activity over the last year: Columbia University, Vassar College, New York University, University of Chicago, University of Wisconsin Madison, University of Minnesota and Ohio State University . (GOP-USA) Pray for the protection of Jewish students studying on USA university campuses, and that anti-Semitic acts and incitement will be severely penalized - including financial fines and expulsion for perpetrators.
