HAMAS EXECUTES MILITARY COMMANDER WHO ‘SPIED FOR ISRAEL’: The armed wing of Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, said Sun. 7 Feb. 2016, it had executed one of its members, with sources familiar with the case calling him a senior official accused of spying for Israel. The Palestinian Fatah group, in the past, alleged that Mahmud Eshtawi had led Israel to the hiding place of Hamas commander Muhammed Deif during the 2014 Gaza war, resulting in a failed assassination attempt against him. Executions have previously been carried out in the Gaza Strip, including in public squares in the Palestinian territory, but it appeared to be the first time Al-Qassam itself had sentenced one of its own through a court martial and executed him. Since the start of 2016, four Gazans have been handed death sentences after being accused of spying for Israel. Gaza has launched three wars against Israel since 2008 after the Hamas terrorist group took power. (Times of Israel)
STEINITZ: ‘EGYPT FLOODS HAMAS TUNNELS, IN PART, DUE TO ISRAEL’S REQUEST: Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz said Sat. 6 Feb. 2016, that Egyptian president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi ordered the flooding of several Hamas tunnels linking Egypt to the Gaza Strip, to a certain extent, "due to Israel's request." The minister affirmed that security cooperation between Israel and Egypt is "better than ever," and said that "flooding is a good solution" for the challenge of tackling Hamas' intricate tunnel system used for smuggling purposes. Overnight Friday, 5 Feb. 2016, Egypt flooded 10 tunnels, using pipes to pump water from the Mediterranean Sea and bring about their collapse. An additional tunnel was exposed later Friday, presumed to have been successfully utilized by Hamas to smuggle weaponry, building material, and rocket part components into the Strip. Despite continued construction and building of its tunnel system, Hamas has maintained over the past week its stance that "We do not want an escalation of violence. We do not want war, and have no intention of engaging in one in the near future.” Meanwhile, Ismail Haniyeh, the Hamas chief in Gaza, bragged days ago that his movement was digging tunnels toward Israel and testing rockets. More recently, on Sun. 7 Feb. 2016, Hamas called on activists to carry out suicide bombing attacks against Israelis, specifically on buses, in a manner reminiscent of the devastating attacks of the 2000-2005 Second Intifada. (J.Post) Pray that remaining terrorist tunnels will be detected and destroyed by Israel and Egypt and that security co-operation between the two countries will be strong.
AS TERROR RAGES IN ISRAEL,HUNDREDS OF EX-COMBAT TROOPS OBTAIN GUN LICENSES: The Israeli Public Security Ministry on Thur. 4 Feb 2016, issued 304 firearm licenses to former members of the IDF’s anti-terrorist unit, Duvdevan. The decision was made in light of the dramatic rise in terrorism across Israel in recent months, and as part of Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan’s policy of easing the criteria for carrying a firearm. “Issuing gun licenses to former Duvdevan members is a sensible step due to the security realities, and it will enhance our response capabilities in cases of possible terrorist attacks,” Erdan said.“There is a pressing need for far more trained civilians in the streets, who can save lives,” he added. One former Duvdevan member stated, “We have a background in fighting terror, and we want to take part and contribute to the security of the state as caring citizens.” Since the beginning of October 2015, more than 15,000 civilians have submitted requests for firearm licenses, compared to 3,000 in the same time period last year. UN CHIEF HECKLED AT NY SYNAGOGUE DURING HOLOCAUST SPEECH: UN Director General Ban Ki-moon was met with jeers and heckling Sat. 6 Feb. 2016, at the Park East Synagogue in New York, where he delivered an address in honor of International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Congregants at the Manhattan synagogue accused the UN chief of justifying terror, with some saying his comments attributing a wave of near-daily Palestinian attacks to “frustration” was like rationalizing the 9/11 attacks. Two weeks ago, Ban’s comments - that “it is human nature to react to occupation, which often serves as a potent incubator of hate and extremism” - drew a furious response from Israel. PM Netanyahu accused him of “stoking terror.” The UN has “lost its neutrality and its moral force, and these statements by the secretary-general do nothing to improve its situation,” he said in an angry video statement. Ban did not mention Israel in his speech on Saturday. (Times of Israel)
EU DEMANDS ISRAEL STOP DEMOLISHING ILLEGAL ARAB SETTLEMENTS: The European Union on Sat. 6 Feb.2016, called on Israel to halt the demolition of illegal Palestinian buildings, some of which are EU-funded. It also reiterated its opposition to building Jewish homes in Judea & Samaria. "In the past weeks there have been a number of developments in Area C of the West Bank, [Judea & Samaria] which risk undermining the viability of a future Palestinian state and driving the parties yet further apart," the EU diplomatic service said. It referred to Israel's decision last month to declare 380 acres of land near Jericho in Judea as state land, with reported plans to build around 150 new residences. This was followed by the demolition of several illegal, EU-funded structures in the south Hebron hills last week. "This is particularly concerning both because of the extent of the demolitions and also the vulnerable individuals affected,” the EU said, adding that demolitions included EU-funded structures. "We call on the Israeli authorities to halt further demolitions," it said. Israel has sharply criticized the EU for its funding of illegal Arab construction in Judea & Samaria - a policy, observers claim, clearly meant to create "facts on the ground" in violation of the Oslo Accords. THOUSANDS PROTEST AGAINST ‘ISLAMIZATION’ OF EUROPE: Thousands of far-right activists demonstrated in Warsaw on Sat. 6 Feb. 2016, to protest against Polish plans to take in refugees from the Middle East and North Africa. The demonstration, organized by the National Movement, was part of the Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamization of the West (PEGIDA) rallies, which took place in several cities across Europe. Leader of the National Front, Robert Winnicki, said that the demonstration was organized against the arrival of hundreds of thousands of migrants from the Middle East and Africa, and called it "Islamic invasion on Europe.” “We are demonstrating because we don't have refugees in Europe, we have invaders. Europe, especially Western Europe is facing a mass invasion of Muslims and this procedure seems to be like when Rome collapsed. We don't want Europe to collapse, we build strong-hold Europe - that is our goal.” In Germany, on Sat. 6 Feb. 2016 up to 8,000 people took part in a PEGIDA rally in Dresden. Anti-immigration rallies were also held in the Netherlands, France, Ireland, Denmark and other countries (Jerusalem Post/ Ynet)
TWITTER TAKES CYBER BATTLE TO ISIS, SHUTS DOWN OVER 125,000 TERRORIST ACCOUNTS: Twitter has suspended over 125,000 accounts for threatening or promoting terrorist acts since mid-2015, the social media site announced Fri. 5 Feb. 2016. The sites were primarily related to ISIS. “We condemn the use of Twitter to promote terrorism and the Twitter Rules make it clear that this type of behavior, or any violent threat, is not permitted on our service,” it said. “As the nature of the terrorist threat has changed, so has our ongoing work in this area.” ISIS is adept at using social media, including Twitter, as a propaganda and recruitment tool. Twitter explained that it has also increased the size of the teams that review reports, significantly reducing its response time. “We have already seen results. Since mid-2015, we have suspended over 125,000 accounts for threatening or promoting terrorist acts.” (Fox)
ISRAEL TO DECLARE DROUGHT AS SEA OF GALILEE BARELY RISES: The Israel Water Authority (IWA) has determined that Israel is suffering from yet another year of drought, the third in a row, after the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee) rose by only a fraction of its typical winter increase. The IWA reported that this winter has been one of the worst on record in terms of rainfall. As a result, the Kinneret has risen a mere 8.66 inches this winter. In a year of average rainfall, the Kinneret rises by about 63 inches. With the relatively dry weather expected to continue in February and March, Israel’s primary fresh water reservoir will be woefully understocked for the parched summer months. Even with average rainfall, the Kinneret still sits many meters below its optimal water level due to a previous seven-year drought that only ended in 2013. (Israel Today) Pray in faith for abundant rain during Feb. and March. "He gives rain on the earth and sends water on the fields.” Job 5:10

NETANYAHU: ISLAMIC TERRORISM IS FLOODING THE WORLD FROM JAKARTA TO CALIFORNIA: The terrorism Israel is currently facing is the same as the Islamic terrorism plaguing the world, PM Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thur. 4 Feb. 2016, after visiting the border policewoman wounded in the previous day’s attack in Jerusalem that killed her 19-year-old comrade Hadar Cohen. His words come against the backdrop of comments coming from some quarters around the world saying that the terrorism in Israel is different from Islamic terrorism other countries are facing, as it is the result of “Palestinian frustration.” “Islamic terrorism is inundating the world and inciting millions in many countries, from Jakarta to Africa to California,” the prime minister said at Hadassah-University Medical Center, where he also visited a soldier who was wounded in an attack near Beit El earlier this week. “We are part of this turmoil, it is not skipping over us, and we are fighting it with great strength and will continue to do so,” he said. Netanyahu said the security forces were engaged in a “very major effort” to stifle the terrorism and ticked off the steps taken since Wednesday’s attack.
Security personnel made a number of arrests in Kabatiya overnight between Wed. 3 Feb. 2016 and the following day, operating in the village near Jenin from which three Palestinians – armed with guns, knives and explosives – set out for their deadly attack at Damascus Gate. The IDF mapped out the homes of the three terrorists in the village ahead of their expected demolition. Netanyahu said, “This is only part of our efforts to fight this terrorism, and we will defeat it. It will take time; this is a protracted struggle.” Police Commissioner Insp.-Gen. Roni Alsheich said that it was clear from their arsenal that the terrorists had planned a “massive attack.” (Jerusalem Post) “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.”Ps 122:6
OUTRAGEOUS: ABBAS HOSTS FAMILY MEMBERS OF TERRORISTS: Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas, who the West often claims is a “peace partner” for Israel, on Wed. night, 3 Feb. 2016, hosted families of terrorists from Jerusalem, some of whom carried out deadly attacks against Jews. The meeting, which took place at Abbas’ headquarters in Ramallah, was held just hours after three Palestinian Arab terrorists carried out a shooting and stabbing attack at the Damascus Gate in Jerusalem, killing one Border Police officer and wounding a second one. In attendance at the meeting were family members of 11 terrorists who carried out attacks during the last four months and whose bodies are still being held by Israel. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss ways to return the bodies of the terrorists to their families. Abbas told the families that he is making great efforts to have the bodies returned and claimed that the burial of "shahids" (martyrs) is a right and as such he is opposed to the conditions set by Israel for the release of the bodies. Those conditions that Abbas “is opposed to,” stipulate that the bodies of the terrorists will not be released until the families meet the police’s demands that are meant to ensure the funerals do not turn into demonstrations of incitement, mob violence and glorification of terrorism The fact that Abbas met with families of terrorists should come as no surprise, as he has refused to condemn attacks against Israelis and, in fact, has justified the attacks by claiming that Palestinians are driven to carry them out due to their frustration with the “difficult conditions” under which they live. (Arutz-7)
JNN RESPONSE TO PALESTINIAN AUTHORITY DUPLICITY: Phase One of the Roadmap Peace Plan, outlining stipulations towards a two-state solution with Israel, demanded Palestinians recognize Israel's right to exist in this region, renounce terror against the Jewish nation, dismantle terrorist organizations, and end all forms of anti-Israel incitement in the Palestinian media and school system. Not one requirement of the Palestinian Authority has been put into action. In actuality, PA run-schools and their textbooks continue to teach children to hate the Jewish nation and to look forward to and support the day when it no longer exists. Palestinian children’s television programs repeatedly present Israel as the enemy needing to be destroyed by Jihad violence. On a regular basis Palestinian Authority leaders glorify as heroes - naming streets and public squares after them - those who carry out terrorist attacks against Israel. Likewise, Palestinian parents of terrorists celebrate the deaths of their murdering children. A recent example of a common parental response to a child's jihad violence is that of the father of Muhammad Kmeil, who this week murdered Israeli border policewoman Hadar Cohen before being killed. The proud father told official Palestinian Authority TV, "We received this news with joy. He's a martyr. Our creator chose him from among the people to be a martyr." And how do so many of the nations respond? “They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. 'Peace, peace,' they say, when there is no peace.” Jer 8:11 (JNN)
MEETING WITH THE ENEMY: A meeting this week between three prominent Arab Israeli MKs and relatives of Palestinian terrorists who carried out attacks against Israelis in recent months has drawn near-unanimous condemnation across the political spectrum. Likewise, reports of the incident in Israel’s leading papers are heavy with criticisms of the Arab parliamentarians. A Palestinian organization representing families of “shahids” [martyrs] invited every lawmaker from the Joint List, a faction comprising all Arab parties in the Knesset, to meet in Jerusalem. The three MKs from Balad, one of the parties making up the Joint List, attended. The relatives asked the MKs to help them pressure the government to release the terrorists’ bodies for burial. The request by the families was transferred to the Public Security Ministry, a Balad party spokeswoman said. However, Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan did not express sympathy for the Balad legislators’ cause, saying: “The bodies of the terrorists will not be released until the families meet the police’s demands that are meant to ensure the funerals do not turn into demonstrations of incitement and support for terrorism.” Erdan called on the attorney-general “to examine if the MKs’ visit with the terrorists’ families breaks the law against supporting acts of terrorism and murder.” The meeting reportedly began with a moment of silence for the “martyrs.” PM Netanyahu said Thur. evening, 4 Feb. 2016, “Balad MKs do not deserve to be in the Knesset after they visited terrorists’ families. ISRAEL HAS NOT OCCUPIED ANOTHER PEOPLE’S LAND: The Palestinians aren't driven by despair at the absence of their state. They have turned down repeated offers of such a state since the 1930s. The relentless incitement which tells them that their highest calling is to kill Jews and conquer the whole of Israel has rather more to do with it. Moreover, Israel has not occupied another people's land, because the disputed territories never belonged to another people. Nor is Israel there out of an aggressive colonial impulse. The Jews are entitled to hold and settle the territories under international law several times over, both as a legally permitted defense against continuous belligerence and from their never-abrogated entitlement to do so - as the only people for whom this was ever their national homeland - under the terms of the Palestine Mandate. (Jerusalem Post)
OFFICIALS WARN: ISIS IS GAINING GROUND IN LIBYA: There have been a number of arrests across Europe in recent months of suspected ISIS operatives, some who are said to be inspired by the organization and others who have been ordered to undertake attacks. A huge worry for the United States now is that the growing ISIS organization in Libya has the independence and authority to order attacks by operatives in Europe, without getting coordination or approval from ISIS leaders in Syria and Iraq. Part of the problem is the lack of a stable and strong national government in Libya, where the United States believes there are somewhere between 2,000 and 3,000 ISIS fighters. USA Secretary of State John Kerry has met with his counterparts from Italy and Qatar, as well as top NATO officials, to discuss how the United States could support Libyan efforts to form a new national government - something Washington believes is vital, not just for the country's stability, but also to counter ISIS. The State Department and Pentagon are working on both diplomatic and military ideas for what the United States might be able to do against ISIS, but several defense officials say there are no formal military options yet. The Pentagon, however, is looking at what new legal authorities are needed so it can target and strike ISIS in Libya, according to two defense officials. (CNN)
SMUGGLED GOLD BARS AND STEROIDS UNCOVERED IN EU DIPLOMAT’S CAR AT ISRAEL – JORDAN BORDER: A European Union diplomat was caught attempting to smuggled bricks of pure gold, jewelry, hundreds of smartphones, and dozens of kilograms of steroids into Israel on Thur. 4 Feb. 2016. The goods were discovered by customs officials in the vehicle of the European Union representative, as the representative and his driver attempted to enter into Israel from Jordan by means of the Allenby Crossing, near Jericho. The driver and the EU diplomat were taken into custody to be investigated by the Israeli Customs Authority. The confiscated contraband has an estimated value of two and a half million dollars. (J. Sweden has “surrendered without so much as firing a shot,” said Pamela Geller author of “Stop the Islamization of America.” “It is sacrificing its own heritage to accommodate immigrants who will not be as accommodating to native non-Muslim Swedes. The bishop is paving the way for the Islamization of Sweden.” The Church of Sweden is the largest Christian church in Sweden and the largest Lutheran denomination in the world. Robert Spencer, an Islam expert and blogger at Jihad Watch, said “this is what a society and culture in the midst of suicide looks like.” Spencer suggested that imams in Stockholm and across Europe are likely laughing at the ease with which Christians there are willing to surrender to Islam. “Watch for mosques everywhere to remove their mihrabs and install crosses so that Christians will feel comfortable praying there,” Spencer said with biting sarcasm. (WND) “But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.” 2 Pet 2:1
ONE KILLED TWO WOUNDED IN JERUSALEM TERROR ATTACK: Three terrorists committed a combined stabbing and shooting attack Wed. afternoon, 3 Feb. 2016, at Jerusalem's Damascus gate, wounding two female Border Police officers and a young man. One of the guards, Hadar Cohen, 19, was critically wounded and later died from her injuries while hospitalized in Hadassah Medical Center. The other Border Police officer, 20, was seriously wounded and also taken to Hadassah with multiple stab wounds, where her condition improved to moderate. The man was lightly wounded. The three terrorists were shot dead at the scene by security forces. According to police reports, two Arab terrorists armed with concealed sub-machine guns, knives and bombs were spotted acting suspiciously by Border Police officers close to Damascus Gate. When officers approached, one of the terrorists produced his ID, and another suddenly stabbed an officer, moderately wounding her. Cohen immediately fired on the terrorists in response. A third terrorist then opened fire on Cohen from behind, critically injuring her. She leaves behind her parents, brother and sister. Jerusalem District police force Avshalom Peled said, "The use of automatic weapons, knives and explosives against police officers shows an escalation. The vigilance shown by officers at the scene prevented a massive terror attack and a horrible catastrophe." Meanwhile, Hamas applauded the terror attack and referred to it as a severe blow to Israeli security measures. (J. Post/Ynet/INN)
EGYPTIAN ARMY FINDS RIGGED TERROR TUNNEL: As part of operations to destroy Hamas smuggling and terrorist tunnels from Gaza, Egyptian security forces recently found a large rigged tunnel in northern Sinai. An Egyptian security source revealed the find on Wed. 2 Feb. 2016. According to the source, terrorists were hiding in the tunnel with explosives ready for detonation. They had large quantities of weapons, and clothing similar to the uniform of the Egyptian army. The last point brings to mind how Hamas terrorists in 2014 Operation Protective Edge infiltrated into Israeli territory with attack tunnels while wearing fake IDF uniforms. The Egyptian source said that the tunnels were built with the aid of another organization, in an apparent reference to Hamas, and that they tried to renovate them and use them to hide and smuggle weapons.
Egypt has been working since October 2014 to create a massive buffer zone in southern Gaza. The operation has involved occupying a large swath of land over half a mile along the 9-mile border and recently even creating a border moat. Meanwhile on the Israeli border, a number of Hamas terrorists have died in tunnel collapses in recent days as the organization works to rebuild its attack tunnel system breaching into Israeli territory. According to some estimates Hamas has succeeded in again digging tunnels into Israeli sovereign territory, and Israeli officials have sought to play down fears from residents in southern Israel who say they have heard Hamas diggers underneath their homes. (Arutz-7) Pray that Hamas’ tunnel building under and around Israel’s border will be totally exposed and efficiently dealt with before there are any future terrorist tunnel attacks on Israel’s southern communities.
NEW GAZA TUNNEL COLLAPSE KILLS MORE HAMAS TERRORISTS: Hamas officials confirmed on Wed. 3 Feb. 2016, the death of at least two of its operatives in a terror tunnel collapse in Gaza. Eight others were reported missing. Last week, seven Hamas men were killed when a terrorist tunnel collapsed close to the border with Israel. (J. Post) “The trouble they cause recoils on them; their violence comes down on their own heads.” Ps 7:16
USA TO FUND ISRAELI ANTI-TUNNEL TECH: Israel’s defense establishment is soon expecting an influx of USA funds to complete work on an advanced anti-tunnel system that will hopefully prevent future terrorist incursions from the Gaza Strip. The American Congress approved involvement in the Israeli project already last summer, and Washington has now agreed to match the Israeli government’s financial contribution by transferring $120 million, according to Israeli media sources. The USA sees the new system as being equally applicable in curbing illegal migration across the USA-Mexican border. Israel has been tight-lipped about the new system to date, and very few details have reached the press. What is known is that Hamas and its terrorist allies have resumed in earnest their efforts to tunnel into southern Israel, and residents in the Jewish state’s Negev region are growing increasingly anxious over the situation. (Israel Today)
HALF OF ISRAEL’S JEWS WANT TO ANNEX JUDEA-SAMARIA: A new poll has found that just under half of the Jewish public in Israel supports the annexation of Judea & Samaria, indicating that the notion of establishing a Palestinian state in Israel's Biblical heartland in a "two-state solution" is being shelved. The poll was conducted by the Israel Democracy Institute, and found that 45% of Jewish Israelis back annexing the entire area liberated in the 1967 Six Day War. In response to the findings Yehudit Katsover and Nadia Matar, directors of Women in Green, an organization that works for the application of Israeli sovereignty in the region, said: "The conclusions arising from the results of the poll are that the People of Israel have stopped apologizing, giving in and dancing to the tune of the world’s leftists. They say clearly: the Land of Israel belongs to the People of Israel," said the two in a joint statement. "The idea of two states, is being dropped from the agenda and instead, a Jewish Zionist vision for the People of Israel and its land is taking shape." Katsover and Matar added that "the continuous terror as a result of the Palestinian Authority’s incitement is another nail in the coffin for the illusory plan of the Left." (INN)
KNESSET PREDICTS 10,000 FRENCH JEWISH OLIM THIS YEAR: The Knesset Committee for Immigration, Absorption and Diaspora Affairs estimated Wed. 3 Feb. 2016, that 10,000 Jews will make aliyah from France this coming year. The estimates likewise anticipated 3,200 olim from the USA, 7,000 from Russia, and 7,400 from Ukraine in continuation of the ongoing wave of Jewish immigration. In 2015 a 15-year record of aliyah was broken as over 30,000 Jews made their way back to their ancestral homeland. MK Avraham Negosa, chairman of the Committee for Immigration, Absorption and Diaspora Affairs, said that "we are tracking after the increase in antisemitism in Europe, and in parallel the preparations of the government ministries to absorb the olim. Absorption is a national mission,” said Negosa.
European Jewish leaders told the Committee that Jews there face the influx of radical Islam on one hand amid surging numbers of Middle Eastern immigrants, and the backlash of nationalistic and often antisemitic European movements on the other. Yogev Karsenti, director of the struggle against antisemitism at the Diaspora Affairs Ministry, said that last year broke records in terms of antisemitic assaults, with between 80% to 100% of the antisemitic attacks in Europe being conducted by Muslims. Karsenti added that while Jews make up 1% of France's population, a full 63% of them have experienced antisemitism, and over half of them are considering emigration. (Arutz-7) Continue to pray that Israel will be able to encourage increased numbers of Jewish immigrants with minimal bureaucracy, ease in obtaining work, and adequate housing.
ISRAEL TO BECOME OFFICIAL MEMBER OF UN COMMITTEE ON SPACE AFFAIRS: The UN Office of Space Affairs (UNOOSA) has invited the Israel Space Agency (ISA) to cooperate on civilian space matters, the Science, Technology and Space Ministry announced on Wed. 3 Feb. 2016. Israel will thus become an official member of the UN Committee on Space Affairs, and its experts in the field will be able to participate in subcommittees and in innovative projects that have global influence. Among the specific fields are using satellites to deal with catastrophes in real time to help rescue teams. Daniel Brook, an ISA adviser on international cooperation, said the signing “constitutes an additional milestone in strengthening ties between Israel and UNOOSA. Israel will be able to contribute more of our knowhow and abilities for peace and pave the way for expanding international cooperation in space. We will be in the small circle of countries that influence world priorities in the field.” (Jerusalem Post)

ISRAEL APPROVES PRAYER SPACE AT WESTERN WALL FOR NON-ORTHODOX JEWS: The Israeli government has approved the creation of an upgraded egalitarian prayer space at the Western Wall in Jerusalem for non-Orthodox Jews. PM Netanyahu described the plan for the new prayer space as "a fair and creative solution" and "a compromise on this delicate issue in a place that is supposed to unite the Jewish people." The cabinet decision was hailed as “historic” by American Jewish leaders who had long chafed at the strictly Orthodox control of the site. It was also viewed as a victory for Women of the Wall, a group of Israeli and diaspora Jews that has championed the struggle against the male-dominated establishment for 27 years in a battle largely fought with prayer shawls and Torah scrolls. The overwhelming majority of affiliated Jews in North America belong to the non-Orthodox Reform and Conservative streams, and their leaders said they had felt increasingly alienated from Israel. The plan for the new prayer space, where men and women would be allowed to worship together, is an effort to restore some measure of tranquility at the ancient site. (NY Times)
FINANCE MINISTRY SHOCKED OVER NETHERLANDS CUTTING OFF SOME HOLOCAUST BENEFITS: Knesset Finance Committee chairman MK Moshe Gafni was angered after learning of a recent decision by the Dutch government to cease paying benefits to Holocaust survivors who have immigrated to Israel. Speaking in the Knesset on Tuesday, 2 Feb. 2016, Gafni said that in response to the decision, he will soon hold a special committee meeting in which he will summon representatives of the Prime Minister’s Office and the Foreign Ministry to convince them to take the lead in dissuading The Hague from its intended course of action. Stating his shock, the MK demanded that the senior ranks government of Israel intervene with the government of the Netherlands. “Every day there are fewer and fewer survivors” to receive the money, said Gafni, urging speed.” (Jerusalem Post) The Foundation for the Benefit of Holocaust Victims in Israel, in its 2015 annual report, found that some 189,000 Holocaust survivors are living in Israel. About 45,000 - 30% - of survivors live below the poverty line. According to the report, some 78% of survivors suffer from health problems, 45% often feel lonely and 46% believe that their children and grandchildren will forget the Holocaust after they are gone. Pray for the comforting, and financial support of Holocaust survivors in Israel. Your generous donations to Vision for Israel will help us to be your hands and feet in this ongoing commission.
TERROR WAVE: 30 MURDERED, 301 INJURED: The past four months have put a huge strain on Magen David Adom (MDA) paramedic teams amid a flurry of near-daily stabbing, shooting and car-ramming attacks across Israel. According to MDA, a total of thirty people have been murdered in the ongoing wave of Arab terror. Some 301 people were injured in stabbings, shootings, and car-ramming attacks over the past four months - 27 of them seriously, eight in moderate-to-serious condition, 46 moderately, 11 in light-to-moderate condition and 209 lightly. In addition, MDA teams treated over 106 people suffering from anxiety and/or shock as a result of a terror attack. MDA director-general Eli Bin stressed that his organization has been on "high alert in the last four months in light of the wave of terror attacks across the country. We are ready and prepared for any scenario or event wherever and are making every effort to save lives. On behalf of all MDA workers and volunteers, I wish to offer condolences to the bereaved families and wish the injured a speedy recovery." (Israel National News) Pray for the full recovery of those yet in hospitals as a result of recent terrorist attacks and for the comforting of those who have lost loved ones.
HIZBULLAH MONEY-LAUNDERING NETWORK CRACKED: The USA Drug Enforcement Administration announced Monday, 2 Feb. 2016, that an international operation had netted a Hizbullah network using millions in drug money to fund terrorist activity in Syria and Lebanon. Seven countries, including France, Germany, Italy and Belgium, were involved in the operation, which apprehended four individuals. The terrorist network was working with South American drug cartels to facilitate the movement of millions of dollars in cocaine to the USA and Europe. The group used the proceeds of these drug sales to purchase weapons for Hizbullah for its activities in Syria. Last week the United States Treasury announced a series of sanctions against Hezbollah which is one of the terror organizations that appears on the list of the State Department. (CNN/Arutz-7)
GLOBAL OIL PRICES LIKELY TO PLUMMET AS IRAN REJOINS A FLOODED MARKET: A new wave of oil from Iran will flow into a global market awash in oil where prices are plunging to depths not seen in a dozen years. With a historic nuclear deal between Iran, the USA and five other world powers set into place days ago, a European oil embargo on the world’s seventh-largest oil producer will end. The impact may be felt widely when crude begins trading in Asian markets this week but the return of Iran to global energy markets created tremors even before the first trade was made. Saudi Arabia’s stock market plunged more than 5% Sunday, 31 Jan. 2016. Saudi Arabia is the biggest oil producer within OPEC, the oil cartel with waning influence to which Iran also belongs. The oil market has anticipated the unchained tide of Iranian oil for months, and some of that may be reflected in new lows for oil prices in the past week. USA crude oil prices have trended down for a year and a half, and have fallen almost 40% in just the past three months. On Friday, 29 Jan. 2016 the price slid 6% to $29.42 a barrel. That compares with a high of over $100 a barrel in the summer of 2014, and close to $150 per barrel before the USA recession. There are predictions of barrels going for $20 soon. Falling crude prices have led to lower prices for gasoline, diesel, jet fuel and heating oil. The fall of oil prices has created jitters globally as economic growth for a major consumer, China, ebbs. That has rippled to USA stock markets as well over apprehension that the economic contagion will spread. (Time)
KING ABDULLAH: JORDAN NEEDS INTERNATIONAL HELP OVER REFUGEE CRISIS: Jordan's King Abdullah says his country needs long-term aid from the international community to cope with a huge influx of Syrian refugees, warning that unless it received support the "dam is going to burst." In a media interview on Tuesday, 2 Feb. 2016, King Abdullah said the refugee crisis was overloading Jordan's social services and threatening regional stability. Jordan has already accepted more than 600,000 UN-registered Syrian refugees. "Jordanians are suffering from trying to find jobs. It has hurt us when it comes to the educational system and our healthcare. Sooner or later I think the dam is going to burst," he said. Last week, officials said the EU would promise some 2 billion euros at an international donor conference to be held in London this week to aid Syrian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq. "This week is going to be very important for Jordanians to see is there going to be help not only for Syrian refugees but for their own future as well," King Abdullah told media sources. King Abdullah said if Jordan was not helped, the refugee crisis would worsen. (J. Post) One problem is that Jordanian customs officials make it difficult for some agencies, like Vision for Israel & The Joseph Storehouse, to get things in to the refugees in Jordan. Pray that promised aid will be released from international organizations to help Jordan with its refugee crisis, and that it will reach those who most need it – also that Jordan will be willing to received generously provisions from those who care and offer assistance from Israel; a nation many in Jordan disdain.
60% OF JORDANIAN STUDENTS HAVE NEVER HEARD OF ‘AL-AQSA’: A new survey, conducted among 6,000 Jordanian students, asked only one question: What is al-Aqsa Mosque? The result: More than 60% of the students did not know how to answer. Following the embarrassing results, the Islamic Council of Jerusalem, which operates in the Muslim University, implemented new rules requiring students to pass a course on the "Jordanian Al-Aqsa Mosque." Meir Zemach of the Lach Yerushalayim organization, which works to promote Israeli sovereignty of the capital, responded to the survey by saying this should strengthen understanding that Jerusalem and the Temple Mount in particular, are merely being used by Islamists as a pretext for acts of terrorism in recent times.
Since the emergence of the Muslim religion in the 6th century, its two holiest cities were Mecca and Medina. Islamic scholars - including the Waqf - openly acknowledged that the Temple Mount in Jerusalem was the holiest site of the Jewish faith, and had only minimal religious significance to Muslims. All of that changed around the early-to-mid-20th century, when "Al Aqsa" became a convenient, religiously-charged rallying cry in the battle against Zionism. "This survey has proven once again the weak claim by Islamic movements surrounding the attachment and belonging of the Arab community to the Temple Mount," Zemach said. It should be noted that Jordan is today in charge of the Waqf, and considers itself a "guardian" of the Temple Mount. The Waqf is vehemently opposed to any Jewish presence, be it large and small, in the complex, insisting the site should be entirely Muslim. STEINITZ ‘DISAPPOINTED’ IN 18-YEARS OF USA SPYING: Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz responded on Friday, 29 Jan. 2016, to the morning's report revealing that the USA and UK have infiltrated Israeli intelligence for the past 18 years, hacking into the video broadcasts of Israeli drones conducting sensitive missions in the region. Steinitz, who served as Intelligence Minister in the last government, said he was disappointed by the revelation, made from documents and images exposed by National Security Agency (NSA) whistle-blower Edward Snowden. "We are not surprised. We know that the Americans spy on everyone including us, their friends," he told Army Radio. "It's disappointing nonetheless because of the fact that for decades we haven't spied or gathered intelligence or broken codes in the United States." The American and British spying operation focused on Israel and saw codes cracked allowing access to broadcasts from drones to Israeli bases in various areas, including in Iran ahead of an apparent planned attack on Tehran's nuclear program.
Despite Israel being an ally of the USA and UK, they also penetrated F16 fighter pilots' heads-up display. "It's as if they sat with them in the cockpit," wrote sources. "It's a look into the secret Israeli combat world. Potential targets, aims, priorities and capabilities, from Israel's view of its enemies. The United States and Britain profited from Israel's superb intelligence abilities and saw everything that Israel saw." A senior Israeli intelligence official exposed to the revelation told new sources that "this is an earthquake. Apparently none of our encoded communications processes are secure from them," he said. "This is the most serious leak in the history of Israeli intelligence." (J. Post) “Do not put your trust in princes, nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help.” Ps 146: 3
HANIYEH ADMITS: WE’RE DIGGING TUNNELS: Hamas leader in Gaza, Ismail Haniyeh, on Jan. 29 Jan. 2016, acknowledged that the organization is digging new terrorist tunnels and experimenting with rockets. Speaking at the funeral of seven Hamas terrorists killed in a Gaza tunnel collapse this week, due to heavy rains and floods, Haniyeh said, "The heroes are digging in eastern Gaza, and in western Gaza are experimenting with rockets." Haniyeh's remarks constitute the first hint since the end of Operation Protective Edge by a senior Hamas official that Hamas is building offensive tunnels. "Tunnels underground, and rockets above the ground," said Haniyeh. "We are continuing on the path of jihad and towards the territories' liberation. The resistance is in a state of preparation, improvement and equipping of all its weapons in order to be ready for the any conflict with Israel." (Ynet/Arutz-7)
LIBERMAN: HAMAS’ TUNNEL DIGGING IS BECAUSE OPERATION PROTECTIVE EDGE FAILED: MK Avigdor Liberman on Friday, 29 Jan. 2016, criticized PM Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon's handling of the Hamas terrorist group. "The sounds of digging from deep underground heard by the residents of the Gaza border area, like the wave of terror attacks, are a direct result of Operation Protective Edge's failure and the immunity Hamas got from Netanyahu and Ya'alon." Lieberman said that Hamas is acting with impunity in the Gaza Strip – rebuilding its tunnel system, of which dozens allegedly reach Israeli territory, replenishing its rocket supplies and building more by the day, and all this without any intervention by Israel, allowing Hamas members to plan and execute terror attacks in Israel and particularly in Judea & Samaria. "This asymmetry made possible by the Israeli government, according to which Hamas unhesitatingly operates within Israel territory while the IDF avoids operating in the Gaza Strip, is a failure that allows Hamas to not only commit these acts of terror, but now also to choose the most convenient timing for it to renew fighting in Gaza," Lieberman said. "It's a failure for which those responsible will not be forgiven." (Arutz-7)
FRANCE TO RECOGNIZE PALESTINE IF DEADLOCK IS NOT BROKEN: France will recognize a Palestinian state if its efforts in coming weeks to try to break the deadlock between Israelis and Palestinians fail, Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said on Friday, 29 Jan. 2016. "France will engage in the coming weeks in the preparation of an international conference bringing together the parties and their main partners, American, European, Arab, notably to preserve and make happen the solution of two states," he said. Fabius said that as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, France had a responsibility to try to keep up efforts to find a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians. WORLD MEDICAL ASSOCIATION REAFFIRMS TRUST IN ISRAELI DOCTORS DESPITE EFFORTS BY BDS: The World Medical Association this week reaffirmed its faith in the Israeli medical system following efforts by British doctors to have the Jewish state expelled from the international organization. “We have trust that our Israeli colleagues will stand firm on our values and the protection of human rights,” the organization’s president wrote the Simon Wiesenthal Center following a recent call by a group of 71 British doctors to expel the Israeli Medical Association over accusations that Israeli doctors carried out “medical torture” on Palestinian patients. NETANYAHU TALKS COOPERATION WITH LEADERS OF GREECE, CYPRUS: PM Benjamin Netanyahu met with Cypriot President Nikos Anastasiades and Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in Nicosia on Thursday, 28 Jan. 2016, to discuss cooperation in the fields of energy, tourism, research and technology, environment, water management, combating terrorism, and migration. Netanyahu said the leaders agreed to set up a committee to study the possibility of building a pipeline to carry natural gas found in waters off Israel and Cyprus to Europe via Greece. (Ynet) Pray for increasing good relations between Israel and nations that truly desire be at peace and to have commerce and cultural exchanges with the Jewish state.
ISREAEL: ARCHAEOLOGISTS UNCOVER INSCRIPTIONS IN YESHUA’S LANGUAGE: Archaeologists in Israel have uncovered ancient epitaphs in both Greek and Aramaic which date back to the first century. The inscriptions were found in a cemetery which is located in the ancient Galilean capital city of Zippori. "Zippori was the first capital of Galilee from the time of the Hasmonean dynasty until the establishment of Tiberias in the first century AD. The city continued to be central and important later on," researchers explained. Four words which are part of the inscriptions were thus far able to be decoded. One word, in Greek, means “Jose,” a common Jewish name during the period, the three other words are Aramaic for “the Tiberian,” “forever,” and “rabbi.” Motti Aviam of the Kinneret Institute for Galilean Archaeology stated that “the Tiberian” could refer to the hometown of the deceased, Tiberias. The word “forever” denotes that the deceased’s burial place will always belong to him. Scholars are unsure precisely what the word “rabbi” meant at the time of its inscription. This discovery is important because it proves the existence of a Jewish community in the region from ancient times -something which the Palestinian Authority continually denies. (Christian Headlines)
IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING: UN MEDIATES RETURN OF ISRAELI ‘SPY’ BIRD FROM LEBANON: “In a discreet operation with the Lebanese and with the great help of UN forces and the UN liaison unit, the Israel Nature and Parks Authority was able to return the vulture that was caught a few days ago by villagers of Bint Jbeil, Lebanon,” the authority said in a statement. The UN acted as a go-between in negotiations between the Lebanese and the Gamla Nature Reserve where the bird lived before it flew across the border, it added. “The attempts were successful and yesterday evening at a meeting at the border at Rosh Hanikra the vulture was returned in reasonable health by UN officers,” the statement said. The bird was “said to be weak and with minor injuries” and had been taken for treatment. It had first raised concerns over the vulture on Tues. 26 Jan, 2016 after images shared on social media appeared to show the bird with an Israeli identification ring and location transmitter captured by the villagers. HAMAS LEADER PRAISES MEDIA FOR SUPPORTING THE ‘INTIFADA’: Hamas' deputy leader Ismail Haniyeh on Sunday 24 Jan. 2016, praised the Palestinian Arab media for continuing to play a major role in strengthening the morale of the Palestinians during the intifada. Haniyeh said, "The media people must protect the culture of the intifada, to keep the problem under the media microscope and follow the developments on the local, national and international arenas. They must focus on protecting the internal front and supporting the morale of Palestinians in Gaza and the [so-called] occupied West Bank, [Judea & Samaria], because the other side works non-stop in an attempt to circumvent the achievements [acts of terror and murder] recorded by our people during the years of conflict and confrontation." Hamas media, as well as media associated with Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas and his Fatah movement, have continued to incite to terrorism against Israelis. The success of this incitement was proven once again on Sunday, 24 Jan. 2016, when it was cleared for publication that Murad Abdullah Adais, the 16-year-old Arab terrorist who days ago stabbed to death Dafna Meir, mother of six, at the entrance to her home in Otniel, was inspired by Palestinian TV. Meanwhile, Hamas has made sure to silence journalists who are critical of the movement and its stronghold on Gaza. (INN) “Whoever is pregnant with evil conceives trouble and gives birth to disillusionment…The trouble they cause recoils on them; their violence comes down on their own heads.” Ps 7:14-16 Decades of wasted energy and resources on the part of the Hamas terrorist group to destroy Israel and her people have proven this scripture to be true. Hamas controlled Palestinians have reaped nothing but a harvest of poverty, loss and disillusionment. Pray that hope for a different kind of future will be breathed into the Palestinian people, accompanied by new leaders who desire to build and co-operate, rather than to consistently destroy and tear down.
PALESTINIAN MEDIA SPURRING WAVE OF TERROR: Hamas' Al Aqsa television channel has been devoting nearly all of its air time over the past four months to encouraging attacks on Israelis. Interviews with relatives of terrorists are a daily occurrence. Other channels such as Palestine al-Yom and al-Quds also carry daily broadcasts that encourage attacks. Moreover, the news of every attack is accompanied by songs of joy and praise to the martyrs. (Ynet)
REPORT DETAILS SHARP RISE IN ANTISEMITIC ATTITUDES, ATTACKS IN EU IN 2015: The Israeli government's 2015 Report on Antisemitism, presented by education minister Naftali Bennett in a cabinet meeting this week, revealed alarming increases in antisemitic attacks and attitudes in Europe. The report, found that 40% of European citizens hold antisemitic attitudes, and detailed a sharp rise in antisemitic incidents in the EU, particularly in France and Britain. France saw an alarming 84% increase in antisemitic incidents between January and May 2015, according to data. Britain also reported that antisemitic incidents reached peak levels in 2014 and 2015, increasing by 53%. More than half of French Jews are considering emigrating from the country, according to the report. In the past year, a record number of Jews emigrated from Western Europe, in part due to increasingly antisemitic attitudes. A similar trend was detailed in the United States, where 75% of college and university students reported having either witnessed or personally experienced antisemitism on campus. Bennett responded to the fact by saying, "At the same time, Muslim attacks, specifically antisemitism against Jews in Europe is worsening and taking on new dimensions, antisemitism is striving to find a safe place in academia, under the roofs of organizations dealing with alleged human rights, and from there we see a worsening of incitement and hatred." NETANYAHU CALLS ON INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY TO CONDEMN ANTISEMITISM: Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday 24 Jan. 2016, called on the international community to combat and condemn antisemitism, blasting the EU and UN for their silence in light of the data, and ordering his government to step up information and education initiatives against antisemitism. "Antisemitism still exists and is becoming ever more vicious. I call on the international community to take action against antisemitism and strongly condemn all displays of antisemitism. It cannot be that 70 years after the Holocaust antisemitism can still be seen in full force. In light of what happened in the past, it must be ensured that such a disaster does not recur and this is the responsibility of the EU and the UN, which are silent in face of these worrying data," Netanyahu said. VIDEO SHOWS PARIS ATTACKERS COMMITTED EARLIER ISIS ATROCITIES: A new video released by ISIS this week, shows the nine terrorists who carried out the 13 Nov. 2015, attacks in Paris committing atrocities in ISIS controlled territory. Seven of the attackers - four from Belgium and three from France - spoke fluent French. The two others were Iraqis. Seven of the terrorists were filmed standing behind bound captives who were either beheaded or shot. "Soon on the Champs-Elysees," says Samy Amimour, who was raised in a Paris suburb, near the French national stadium, as he holds a captive's head aloft. The November 2015 attacks targeted a packed concert hall, a restaurant and cafe, and a soccer match at the national stadium leaving 130 people dead and hundreds injured. One of the terrorists, Abu Omer al-Baljiki – known as the "mastermind" also threatens Israel in the film: "We will create rivers from your blood today! With Allah's help we will be the ones who liberate Palestine." (Yahoo/Ynet)
ISIS PLANNING FOR ‘LARGE SCALE’ ATTACKS ON EUROPE: The ISIS terrorist group has honed the ability to launch global attacks and is set to focus more on Europe following the Paris massacre, the chief of the EU police agency Europol said Monday, 25 Jan. 2016. Rob Wainwright told a news conference that ISIS "had developed a new combat style capability to carry out a campaign of large-scale terrorist attacks on a global stage - with a particular focus in Europe." He said that "So-called Islamic State [ISIS] has willingness and a capability to carry out further attacks in Europe, and of course all national authorities are working to prevent that from happening," he added. "ISIS is preparing more 'Mumbai-style' attacks, to be executed in member states of the EU, and in France in particular," the Europol report said. "The attacks will be primarily directed at soft targets, because of the impact it generates." (Arutz-7)
MASSACHUSETTS LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS VISIT ISRAEL TO LEARN ABOUT PREVENTING, COMBATING TERRORISM: A group of law enforcement officials from Massachusetts left on Sunday, 24 Jan. 2016, for a 10-day trip to Israel to learn about fighting terrorism. The trip, privately-funded by the Jewish human rights organization The Anti-Defamation League (ADL), will include sessions that address airport security, dealing with the media during a crisis and the securing of commercial sites, among other topics. The Massachusetts delegation will travel to Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, the Golan Heights and Sderot, a community in southern Israel that has been bombarded with rocket fire from the Gaza Strip. Robert Trestan, the ADL’s New England regional director, said the trip is an opportunity for law enforcement working in Massachusetts to have “some real hands-on experience” where fighting terrorism is concerned. He said that with the potential threat of terrorism throughout the state, “It’s really important to provide training and resources and knowledge to all levels of law enforcement.” The last major terrorist attack to take place in Massachusetts was in April 2013, during the Boston Marathon. Last year, a Western Massachusetts man was accused of conspiring with the terrorist group ISIS to set off explosives at colleges. (Algemeiner)
BEN-GURION UNIVERSITY DEDICATES CENTER FOR BEDOUIN STUDENTS: There are some 1,200 Arab students studying at BGU, nearly 450 of them are Bedouin and 70% of the Bedouin students are women. “We noticed that women Bedouin students were often to be found sitting in the lobby of the student center early in the morning, and during the day we saw them hanging out on the grass with nothing to do,” said Merav Yosef Solomon, head of administration in the Office of the Dean of Students. “There had been several attempts to create interest groups specifically for them – an all-women’s sports lesson, a support group, a handcraft workshop with ‘Desert Embroidery.’ The attempts did not succeed, primarily because of a lack of trust in the system,” she explained. “Over the course of many conversations that we had with BGU faculty member, and first woman Bedouin clinical psychologist, Dr. Sarah Abu-Kaf, the need for a space for the students emerged: A space where they can feel safe, where they can rest and hang out. A place where they can receive instruction and assistance from professionals,” said Yosef Solomon. As a result, a social worker from the staff of the Office of the Dean of Students will be on hand as an “older guiding and supportive figure” at the center. The Bedouin students will be able to rest between classes and wait for their rides home, to study, and meet for joint activities. The knowledge that the students have a safe space to rest and to wait for transportation home will alleviate the worries of the parents and encourage their support, the university said.
