JNN News Update Dec. 29, 2016

PM: KERRY’S SPEECH BIASED LIKE THE UN: PM Binyamin Netanyahu criticized Secretary of State John Kerry's speech on the peace process scathingly on Wed. 28 Dec. 2016, calling it "skewed" and "obsessive." "Like the Security Council resolution that Secretary Kerry advanced in the UN, his speech tonight was skewed against Israel," said Netanyahu. "For over an hour, Kerry obsessively dealt with settlements and barely touched upon the root of the conflict - Palestinian opposition to a Jewish state in any boundaries." Other government ministers also criticized Kerry's speech. Tourism Minister Yariv Levin stated that the speech included a lot of words and very little understanding of reality. "Kerry is trying to force on us, in his last days on the job, a worldview that is a prize for Palestinian terror and that completely ignores our rights to the country," Levin said, adding that "A true friend of Israel should have shown support for the elected government and not tried to force on the Jewish people resolutions through the supporters of Iran at the UN."

Education Minister Naftali Bennett said: "Kerry quoted me three times anonymously in his speech in order to demonstrate that we oppose a Palestinian state. So let me state it explicitly," Bennett said. "Yes. If it depends on me, we will not establish another terror state in the heart of our country. The citizens of Israel have paid with thousands of victims, tens of thousands of rockets and innumerable condemnations for the utopian idea of a Palestinian state. It's time for a new policy and we will lead the way." Bennett concluded. MK Moti Yogev said: "The speech and the frustration of Secretary of State John Kerry for the sake of creating a Palestinian terrorist state in the land of Israel, didn't surprise anyone." (Arutz-7)

TRUMP CLOBBERS OBAMA FOR ‘DISDAIN AND DISRESPECT’ OF ISRAEL: Donald Trump accused Barack Obama on Wed. 28 Dec. 2016, of throwing up 'roadblocks' and making 'inflammatory statements' on his way out of the White House, and urged Israel to 'stay strong' in the face of 'disdain and disrespect' from the outgoing president. Obama angered his successor by ordering his UN ambassador last week to sit out a vote condemning Israel instead of vetoing it. Israelis leaders say Obama himself engineered the vote as a parting shot at PM Netanyahu. “We cannot continue to let Israel be treated with such total disdain and disrespect,” Trump wrote. “They used to have a great friend in the US[A] but not anymore. The beginning of the end was the horrible Iran deal, and now this (the UN vote)! Stay strong Israel, January 20th is fast approaching!' he wrote. Obama's own former Middle East peace envoy, former Sen. George Mitchell, said that the president should have either vetoed the UN resolution or delayed it so Trump could set his own Israel policy. (UK Daily Mail) “’No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me,’ declares the Lord.” Isa 54:17

TRUMP: THE UN DOESN’T SOLVE PROBLEMS, IT CAUSES THEM: USA President-elect Donald Trump on Wed. 28 Dec. 2016, once again criticized the UN in the wake of the anti-Israel resolution passed last week by the Security Council. “When do you see the United Nations solving problems?” he said. “They don’t. They cause problems. So, if it [the UN] lives up to its potential, it’s a great thing, and if it doesn’t, it’s a waste of time and money.” His comments on Wed. followed a tweet from earlier in the day, in which he attacked the UN and the Obama Administration for treating Israel "with disdain and disrespect" and urged Israel to "stand firm" until he takes office on 20 Jan. 2017. (INN)

GOP TRASHES KERRY SPEECH: USA Republican leadership dismissed on Wed. 28 Dec. 2016, Secretary of State John Kerry’s speech on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, vowing a change in policy after President-elect Donald Trump takes office next month. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan disparaged Kerry’s authority, saying that “after allowing this anti-Israel resolution to pass the UN, Secretary Kerry has no credibility to speak on Israeli-Palestinian peace.” Ryan was referring to Friday’s 23 Dec. 2016, Security Council vote condemning Israel’s settlements, in which the USA abstained. Kerry spoke for well over an hour on Wed., revisiting the stinging critique of Israel’s settlement policy that he delivered earlier this month. Miami Senator Marco Rubio said that Kerry had decided to cater to the demands of freedom’s enemies and devote and entire speech to disparaging a country that is one of America’s closest allies. “I look forward to working with President-elect Donald Trump and his incoming team to restore our relationship with Israel to its proper place,” Rubio said.

Republican Jewish Coalition Executive Director Matt Brooks accused the administration of “playing the Jewish community for fools.” “Their recent actions at the UN did nothing more than allow President Obama to take a parting shot at Israel and PM Netanyahu, while at the same time creating new roadblocks to peace. True peace in the region cannot be achieved by isolating Israel in the international community, but rather can only be achieved through direct negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians.” Brooks said that his organization was “confident that President Trump and the Republican Congress will work quickly to reverse these actions, and reestablish the strong bonds between the USA and Israel.” (Times of Israel)

CONGRESS MOVING TO CUT USA FUNDING TO UN IN WAKE OF ANTI-ISRAEL VOTE: Congress is already setting the stage to cut off USA funding to the UN in the wake of a contested vote last week in which the Obama administration permitted an anti-Israel resolution to win overwhelming approval, according to congressional leaders, who said that the current administration is already plotting to take further action against the Jewish state before vacating office. Other punitive actions by Congress could include expelling Palestinian diplomats from USA soil and scaling back ties with foreign nations that voted in favor of the controversial measure, according to multiple sources who spoke about the situation both on and off the record. The Obama administration is still under bipartisan attack for its decision to help craft and facilitate the passage of a UN resolution condemning Jewish construction in Jerusalem, Judea & Samaria, a move that reversed years of USA policy on the matter. The Obama administration officials played a key role in ensuring the measure was passed unanimously by the UN Security Council. This included a phone call by Vice President Joe Biden to Ukraine’s president to ensure that country voted in favor of the measure. (Fox)

‘PARIS CONFERENCE TO FORCE ISRAEL INTO AUSCHWITZ BORDERS’: French MP Meir Habib called his country's holding of a peace conference next month to be a disgrace. "This isn't a peace conference. It's an international disgrace. President Obama failed a thousand percent in everything he did in the Middle East. He left 400,000 people to die in Syria, and all of their murderers will go free. Now a few days before the end of his term he wants to go to this conference to force Israel back to the '67 borders, the 'Auschwitz borders.'" Habib, who is Jewish, cautioned, "We should not panic. It will not help. Jerusalem will remain the united capital of Israel forever." He said that Israel has many friends in France who will stand by her during this difficult time, following the passage of an anti-Israel resolution by the UN Security Council last week. "As a Member of Parliament, I get calls from many MPs who are not Jewish saying that they don't understand the UN resolution, that it is a disgrace which has crossed all borders of decency.

"The Paris conference is meant to force an agreement on Israel." he added. "But thankfully, the new President, whom they call Trump, said hopeful things in the name of the world's greatest country, and I am optimistic that he will move the embassy to Jerusalem and the conference will not matter. Unfortunately, France is once again rewarding terrorism. France has experienced terrorist attacks in which 250 people have been killed in the last year and a half, in stabbing and ramming attacks - just like in Israel. On Bastille Day 84 civilians were murdered, and we are rewarding the jihadists." he said. "They kill us and they receive a reward. They get a Palestinian state and Jerusalem becomes a Muslim capital. It is a historical lie and a disgrace. All of this will not help because Israel is a strong country. But it is still a disgrace." (Arutz-7)

NO RETURN TO THE “AUSCHWITZ BORDERS”: Israel is being threatened and manipulated once again to return to the 1967 armistice lines, better known to informed Mideast observers as the “Auschwitz Lines.” To invoke the words of Abba Eban, who as foreign minister said the following at the UN just two years after the Six Day War: “We have openly said that the map will never again be the same as on June 4, 1967. For us, this is a matter of security and of principles. The June map is for us equivalent to insecurity and danger. I do not exaggerate when I say that it has for us something of a memory of Auschwitz. We shudder when we think of what would have awaited us in the circumstances of June, 1967, if we had been defeated; with Syrians on the mountain and we in the valley, with the Jordanian army in sight of the sea, with the Egyptians who hold our throat in their hands in Gaza. This is a situation which will never be repeated in history.” Eban, perhaps one of Israel’s most articulate and astute politicians, adroitly described the fragility of Israel’s 1949-1967 map as the “Auschwitz” lines.

The need for Israel to have secure and defensible borders (as backed by previous American administrations and which has bipartisan support) is vital as it’s situated in a dangerous neighborhood bordered by terrorists who seek to wipe it from the map. When world leaders cavalierly advocate that Israel return to the indefensible nine-mile wide 1967 lines, they fail to realize that due to the topography of the region, Palestinian terrorists would be given a significant hilltop advantage by placing major Israeli cities (along with Ben Gurion Airport) in the crosshairs of their dangerous weaponry. The resultant effect would see heavily populated Israeli communities within rocket range, sirens going off on a daily basis and Israel’s tourism industry and economy would grind to a standstill, paralyzed by the unrelenting terror. Security, as evinced by defensible borders, is vital to procuring an enduring peace. Benjamin Netanyahu said in his speech to the United States Congress in 2011: “For in our unstable region, no one can guarantee that our peace partners today will be there tomorrow.” As is axiomatic of Israel’s military doctrine, Israel must be the final arbiter of its own destiny. Not only can Israel’s national security not be outsourced, but it must be its own guarantor of its own security. That is why Israel cannot acquiesce to the reckless abandon of adopting the vulnerable pre-war armistice/Auschwitz lines. KERRY TO MAKE MIDDLE EAST PEACE SPEECH ON WED. 28 DEC. 2016: Israel’s Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan criticized USA Secretary of State John Kerry on Tues. night, 27 Dec. 2016, shortly after it was announced that he would give a speech on Middle East peace. On Wed. 28 Dec. 2016, Kerry will make remarks regarding Middle East peace and discuss the next steps needed to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. "It's pathetic to present a peace plan at the last minute when he hasn't managed in changing anything for his entire time in office," Erdan said Tues. night. "It's unfortunate that the Obama Administration, that erred for years in the Middle East, is trying to make sure that the chaos will last far past its tenure," Erdan said. "Kerry's speech on parameters right before the end of his tenure will make sure that the Palestinians won't agree to any sort of negotiations with Israel in the coming years and will push off chances of advancing peace." (Jerusalem Post) Indeed, here comes the next USA diplomatic bomb and Obama betrayal against Israel. “They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. 'Peace, peace,' they say, when there is no peace.” Jer 6:14

ASSEMBLYMAN HIKIND: ‘OBAMA IS A HERO TO THE TERRORISTS’: New York State Assemblyman Dov Hikind blasted USA President Obama for allowing the passage of an anti-Israel resolution at the UN Security Council last week. "He is now clearly the hero of the terrorists; of Hamas, of Hezbollah. That's what our president in the United States is," said Hikind "He is an utter, complete, failure." Hikind accused Obama of doing irreparable harm to the peace process. "He set a new standard for the Palestinians. He ended whatever peace process there was, because of his actions." According to Hikind, Barack Obama is much better in terms of how he treats the Ayatollah from Iran, the way he treats the enemies of Israel, the West, and the dictatorships of the world. “The one democracy in the Middle East - Israel- he takes a knife to and stabs in the back. The United Nations is a cesspool." Hikind said, adding that he hopes Trump will use America's economic leverage over the UN to compel it to change its anti-Israel and anti-Semitic ways. (Arutz-7)

FORMER AMBASSADOR: OBAMA OBSESSES ABOUT ISRAEL WHILE SYRIANS DIE: Former Israeli Ambassador to the USA Danny Alayon accused the Obama Administration of obsessing over Israel while ignoring humanitarian crises and massacres elsewhere in the region. Speaking to Fox News, Ayalon said: “Imagine that just a day before Christmas Eve and Hanukkah, President Obama was busy not trying to help innocent Syrians who are getting murdered in Aleppo, or dealing with the emergency humanitarian crisis, but instead was working to undermine Israel. You’ve got a million killed in Syria, a brutal, autocratic regime in Iran. You have Turkish President Erdogan arresting justices, terror in Libya, the Russians invading Ukraine, taking Crimea, and no resolutions against any of them. There’s one yardstick for Israel - another for the rest of the world.” According to Ayalon, no president has ever turned away from Israel the way President Obama has. Ayalon expressed hope that President-elect Donald Trump will be able to mitigate the damage Obama has caused once he takes office. (Fox)

ABBAS ‘EUPHORIC’ OVER PASSAGE ON ANTI-ISRAEL UN RESOLUTION: Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas reacted with “near-euphoria” to the passage of UN Security Council Resolution 2334, which declared all Jewish presence over the 1940 armistice lines to be 'illegal.’ Abbas expressed hope that the resolution and the upcoming Paris peace conference could be used to end all Jewish "settlements" in Judea, Samaria, and eastern Jerusalem. Abbas said that the resolution "proves that the world rejects settlements as illegal, and accepts that they were established on our occupied land, including east Jerusalem. We hope that the conference in France will create a mechanism for ending Israeli settlements on our land," said Abbas. "The resolution paves the way for the peace conference scheduled to take place in Paris next month." PA Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki said that the resolution would aid BDS initiatives against Israel. “It will now be possible to impose a boycott on the settlements, and even employ legal sanctions against companies that work with them.” Al-Maliki said that the PA would use the UN resolution to bring Israel to the International Criminal Court this coming year. (INN)

HAMAS: “ISRAEL HAS BECOME A BURDEN TO THE WORLD”: Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal blames Israel for all the conflicts raging in the Middle East - including the Syrian civil war. Hamas leadership praised the recent UN resolution which declared Jewish settlement in Judea, Samaria and eastern Jerusalem illegal. At a press conference in Turkey this week, Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal said that Israel has become a “burden” to the world, and that the Palestinian side is the winning side. Mashaal said that the passage of the UN resolution was a step in the right direction in the “struggle for the returning of the Land” to Arab hands - without political negotiations with Israel. Likewise, Mashaal blamed Israel for all fighting in the Middle East - including the Sunni-Shiite conflict manifested in the Syrian civil war and the fighting in Iraq and Yemen. (INN) Meanwhile, as Hamas and other terrorist organizations are working hard to produce terrorists - grooming their own children to be jihad murderers - building terrorist tunnels, impoverishing their own communities with hatred and war…the Jewish state is otherwise occupied: Israel continues to aid the victims of Syria’s civil war both by granting entry to those in need of urgent medical care and by sending aid teams to refugee camps throughout Europe. Israel’s medical ingenuity is constantly inventing ways to save lives and promote healing. Israeli intelligence has played a key role in thwarting terrorist attacks abroad. Israel is often the first to lead world nations in dispatching aid to countries that are victims of national emergencies and the quickest on the ground to give hands-on assistance. Israel leads in the battle against the global water crisis by providing innovative solutions to over 150 nations where water is far too scarce. Of course, this list is by no means comprehensive. Despite Israel’s tiny size, minuscule population and lack of significant natural resources, it routinely contributes disproportionately to the good of the international community.

And then there are words such as Relativity, Quantum Mechanics, Atomic Structure, chemotherapy, megahertz - concepts that changed the world. Not Arab? What about psychoanalysis, Bayer Aspirin, modern banking, Hollywood? Also, not Arab. Perhaps part of the problem with the lack of Arab invention and discovery is that so much of the modern world's inventions, discoveries, art, entertainment, psychology, philosophy, chemistry, economics, are, to use their dirty words, “Jewish”, “Israeli.” In finality, despite what some people-groups, global institutions, terrorist organizations, or their leaders have to say, the God of Israel has declared and carried out His promise made thousands of years ago to Abraham: "I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.” Gen 12:2

UN VOTE TOPS WIESENTHAL LIST OF TOP 10 ANTI-SEMITIC, ANTI-ISRAEL CASES IN 2016: The USA abstention from a recent vote against Israeli settlements at the UN Security Council topped the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s annual list released 27 Dec. 2016, of the 10 worst outbreaks of Jew-hatred and anti-Israel incidents. The Jewish human rights organization ranked the Obama administration’s move as the top case, charging that it erased Jewish history. “The most stunning 2016 UN attack on Israel was facilitated by President Obama when the US[A] abstained on a UN Security Council resolution condemning Israel for settlement construction. It reversed decades-long US[A] policy of vetoing such diplomatic moves against the Jewish State.” The organization added: “It also urges UN members ‘to distinguish, in their relevant dealings, between the territory of the State of Israel and the territories occupied since 1967,’ effectively endorsing BDS.” UK Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn along with former British politician Baroness Jenny Tonge ranked second. France earned the third spot for “singling out Israel". The French government became the first member of the EU to implement the requirement of labels on all Israeli goods produced beyond the Jewish state’s 1967 borders.” Fourth place included a list of BDS (boycott, divestment, sanctions) actions targeting Israel. Also included in spot four were the United Church of Christ, which overwhelmingly voted to endorse BDS, as well Ryerson University in Toronto, where the student union voted to endorse the BDS movement.

The head of the far-right USA-based National Policy Institute, Richard Spencer, garnered the fifth spot for being “America’s 21st century Nazi.” Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas ranked sixth. Listed among Hamas’ many anti-Semitic acts is Hamas’ TV program airing a play in which Palestinian children dressed in military fatigues and armed with guns and knives “kill” those acting as Israelis. The explosion of anti-Semitic attacks in the Netherlands catapulted the country to the seventh slot. At a high school “some of the graduates broke out in song with the lyrics, ‘Together we’ll burn Jews, because Jews burn the best,’” wrote the center. Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom was ranked eighth for worrying about terrorists and not their victims. The ninth slot covered Anti-Semitism in the sports arena. Outbreaks of antisemitism were cited in the USA the Netherlands, Croatia, Italy, the UK and Poland. The last spot went to Poland for its persecution of prominent historian Jan Tomasz Gross, who documented Polish participation in the murder of Jews in wartime Poland. He is in the crosshairs of Polish authorities who are considering charges that could put him behind bars for three years for “harming the country’s reputation.” (J.Post) “Those who hate me without reason outnumber the hairs of my head; many are my enemies without cause, those who seek to destroy me.” Ps 69:4

TRUMP: THE UN IS ‘SO SAD’: USA President-elect Donald Trump on 26 Dec. 2016, took to Twitter to criticize the UN. “The United Nations has such great potential but right now it is just a club for people to get together, talk and have a good time. So sad!” The tweet comes following last week’s vote at the UN Security Council on a resolution condemning Israel’s presence in Judea, Samaria and eastern Jerusalem. The tweet marks the third time in recent days that Trump has referred to the UN following the vote at the Security Council. On 24 Dec. 2016, the President-elect said he would work to achieve peace between Israel and the Palestinian Authority despite the fact that the vote made it more difficult. “The big loss yesterday for Israel in the United Nations will make it much harder to negotiate peace but we will get it done anyway!” wrote Trump. On 23 Dec. 2016, just after the resolution passed, Trump tweeted, “As to the UN, things will be different after Jan. 20th,” in reference to the fact that the Obama administration chose to abstain at the vote and allow the resolution to pass. (Arutz-7)

IRAN’S RIAL AT ALL-TIME LOW OVER STRONG DOLLAR, OTHER WOES: This week saw Iran's currency fall to 41,600 rials to $1, weakening from 41,250 on 25 Dec. 2016 and 35,570 in mid-September. Inflows of foreign funds since Jan. 2016 have been smaller than the government expected, partly because big international banks fear running into USA legal trouble if they deal with Iran. Iran has seen the rial go from 9,200 to $1 to 41,600 to $1, a depreciation of some 450%. Much of that collapse came in 2012 over the country's contested nuclear program, when the USA banned the world's banks from taking part in Iran's oil economy and the EU imposed an oil embargo. ISRAEL FEARS AMERICA, FRENCH INITIATIVE IN PARIS CONFERENCE BEFORE OBAMA LEAVES OFFICE: Jerusalem is concerned that the foreign ministers' meeting in Paris, scheduled for 15 Jan. 2016, will result in a Security Council vote on the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and that the USA and France will push for further steps on the Israeli-Palestinian issue before the Obama administration wraps up its term. The disclosure presented to the ministers led PM Benjamin Netanyahu to say that last week’s vote in the Security Council on the settlements was not the end of the story and that there are liable to be other steps taken by the international community. At the cabinet meeting the experts on foreign affairs presented a scenario in which Obama could even on his last day in office cause harm to Israel. The concern is that Obama may promote a move in the UN Security Council giving guidelines for a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians and the establishment of a Palestinian state. Israel would find it hard to present an alternative model after these guidelines are set.

Representatives of the Foreign Ministry, the National Security Council and others who attended the security cabinet meeting presented information indicating that the trend in talks between France, the USA and other countries in preparation for the foreign ministers’ meeting tended toward advancing such a move. According to the information that Israel has, USA Secretary of State John Kerry wants to utilize the foreign ministers’ parley, which will be attended by representatives of dozens of countries, to deliver an address that presents his vision for the two-state solution. The senior official said that Israel fears this address will include American principles for resolving the core issues of borders, refugees, security arrangements and Jerusalem. (Ha’aretz) Father in Heaven, we intercede for the protection of your beloved people Israel against the plotting of the nations: “Hide me (Israel) from the conspiracy of the wicked, from the plots of evildoers.” Ps 64:2

LIEBERMAN SLAMS FRENCH PEACE SUMMIT: ‘A MODERN DAY DREYFUS TRIAL': Five days before Obama leaves office and with France heading for elections, Israel’s defense minister said the timing of conference -15 January 2017 - serves only one purpose: “to undermine the State of Israel's security and tarnish its good name.” Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Mon. 26 Dec, 2016 slammed France's proposed peace summit, calling it "a modern day Dreyfus trial." There's only one difference," he asserted, "this time, instead of the defendant being one Jew, it will be the entire nation of Israel. With France going to elections soon, this is not time for a peace summit, it's a tribunal against the State of Israel," he said. Lieberman also pointed to France's votes against Israel at international organizations recently, saying "it adds to the difficult climate that exists in France against Jews." Mentioning the recent terror attacks in France, Lieberman suggested, "Perhaps it's time to tell the Jews of France- this isn't your country, this isn't your land. Leave France and come to Israel. That's the only response to this plot (the summit). If you want to remain Jews and keep your children and grandchildren Jewish, leave France and make aliyah to Israel." Israel has repeatedly expressed objection to the peace conference, saying only direct negotiations between the sides can lead to an accord between the two sides. (Ynet)

ISRAEL HAS SUSPENDED TIES WITH 12 UN SECURITY COUNCIL NATIONS: Israel's Foreign Ministry has suspended all working ties with 12 of the UN Security Council countries that voted to pass a resolution urging Israel to halt building settlements on so called “occupied” Palestinian land. The move came at PM Netanyahu's request, one day after he summoned 10 of the nations' ambassadors to Jerusalem to personally reprimand them for the vote. Foreign ministers and ambassadors from Britain, France, Russia, China, Japan, Ukraine, Angola, Egypt, Uruguay, Spain, Senegal and New Zealand will not be received at Israel's Foreign Ministry amid the suspension. They will also not be granted an audience with Netanyahu. The USA abstained from the unexpected UN vote on 23 Dec. 2016 which has further increased tensions between Netanyahu and President Obama. Netanyahu called the USA's refusal to veto the resolution "shameful" and "underhanded," and on 25 Dec. 2016 held a public cabinet meeting where he accused Obama of conspiring with Palestine to craft the resolution and bring it to a vote at the UN. "According to our information, we have no doubt the Obama administration initiated the resolution, stood behind it, coordinated the wording and demanded it be passed," Netanyahu said. (Business Insider)

USA HELPED CRAFT, PUSH FORWARD UN CENSURE: David Keyes, spokesman for Israeli PM Netanyahu, spoke with Fox news on 25 Dec. 2016, about the recently passed UN resolution condemning settlement activity. "We have rather ironclad information from sources in both the Arab world and internationally that this was a deliberate push by the United States and in fact they helped create the resolution in the first place." Keyes said that Israel was "deeply disappointed" by the Obama administration's abstention. "I think what we're seeing is an abandonment of Israel, and an abandonment of a long-standing American policy." Resolutions at the UN concerning the Israeli settlement issue had been circulating for around a year, according to USA and Arab diplomats. Israel's government became increasingly convinced Obama might take action after Donald Trump's surprise victory. Israeli officials have described the time before the president-elect's Jan. 20 inauguration as the "kill zone," when the Obama administration could take steps that would be difficult to reverse. A senior Israeli official said its government got wind that Secretary of State John Kerry conveyed to Palestinian lead negotiator Saeb Erekat at a meeting on 12 Dec. 2016 at the State Department that the USA was likely to abstain on the UN resolution. "Kerry was colluding with the Palestinians to put the resolution in motion," said the Israeli official. (Wall St. Journal/Fox)

UN RESOLUTION APPLIES TO HISTORICALLY JEWISH AREAS IN JERUSALEM: The media reported that the UN resolution was only about the expansion of new settlements. But the text of the resolution itself goes well beyond new building and applies equally to historically Jewish areas that were unlawfully taken by Jordanian military action during Israel's War of Independence and liberated by Israel in a war started by Jordan in 1967. The text of the Security Council Resolution means that Israel's decision to build a plaza for prayer at the Western Wall - Judaism's holiest site - constitutes a "flagrant violation of international law." If it does, then why did President Obama pray there and leave a note asking for peace? Under this resolution, the access roads that opened up Hebrew University to Jewish and Arab students and the Hadassah Hospital to Jewish and Arab patients are illegal, as are all the rebuilt synagogues - destroyed by Jordan - in the ancient Jewish Quarter of the Old City. Is it really now USA policy to condemn Israel for liberating these historically Jewish areas in Jerusalem? This resolution declares the status quo - the reality on the ground that acknowledges Israel's legitimate claims to its most sacred and historical Jewish areas - to be a flagrant violation of international law. (The Hill)

DUTCH LEADER TELLS ISRAEL TO ‘IGNORE UN AND CONTINUE BUILDING’: Leading Dutch politician Geert Wilders has criticized USA president Barack Obama for not vetoing the Security Council resolution against Israel and advised Israel to ignore the UN resolution. Wilders, the founder and leader of the Dutch Freedom Party, who has dominated Dutch polls during the year of 2016, wrote on his Facebook page: "Obama betrayed Israel. Thank God for Trump. My advice to my Israeli friends: ignore the UN and keep building more and more settlements." Wilders was voted politician of the year 2016 when 40,000 people participated in the annual public election held by Dutch TV-show ‘EenVandaag’. He is known for his sharp criticism of Islam and his outspoken support for Israel. Wilders lived in Israel for two years during his youth, working on a moshav, and has visited the country 40 times in the last 25 years. (Israel National News)

THOUSANDS OF HOMES TO BE BUILT IN JERUSALEM DESPITE UN VOTE: The Jerusalem Municipality is set to approve the construction of thousands of housing units in neighborhoods beyond the Green Line, despite last week’s UN Security Council vote, calling for a moratorium on settlement construction across Judea & Samaria and in east Jerusalem. The Jerusalem District Zoning Committee is scheduled to convene on Wed. 28 Dec. 2016 to debate the construction of 5,600 housing units beyond the Green Line. Deputy Jerusalem Mayor Meir Turgeman, told Israel news portals, the UN should not be allowed to dictate Israel's moves in Jerusalem. "We remain unfazed by the UN vote, or by any other entity that tries to dictate what we do in Jerusalem. I hope the Israeli government and the new USA administration will support us, so we can make up for the lack of construction during the eight years of the Obama administration," he said. (Israel Ha’yom)

FATAH OFFICIAL CALLS FOR ESCALATION OF ‘POPULAR STRUGGLE’: Azzam al-Ahmad, a member of Fatah's Central Committee and head of the group’s parliamentary bloc, on 25 Dec. 2016 called for an escalation of “the popular struggle” in support of Palestinian Arab terrorists in Israeli prisons. Ahmad said that no peace agreement can be signed with Israel unless all the Palestinian Arab prisoners are released, stressing that the issue of the prisoners has dominated the national priorities of Palestinian Authority (PA) chairman Mahmoud Abbas. "The prisoners sacrificed their freedom for their country and for the (Palestinian) issue," said Ahmad, adding that “this issue is one of the fundamental national principles.” The PA views all the terrorist prisoners, including Israeli Arabs, as "prisoners of freedom", and provides them with monthly allowances, the amount of which stands in direct proportion to their period of imprisonment with additional benefits for residents of Jerusalem. The monthly stipends for terrorists amount to about six percent of the PA’s annual budget. Despite this, the PA continues to ask the international community for foreign donations, claiming it is on the verge of collapse due to a worsening financial crisis. (INN)

JNN News Update Dec. 25, 2016

NETANYAHU TO ISRAEL: "I AM HERE TO COMFORT EVERYONE FOLLOWING UN DECISION": Israel's PM Netanyahu made his first comments since the previous day’s, UN Security Council vote at a ceremony celebrating the first night of Hanukkah. Netanyahu told the crowd that he was there to comfort everyone following the UN's decision. "The Security Council decision calls Israeli land occupied and that is just shameful, the decision calls the Western Wall occupied land, it is shameful," Netanyahu said. Speaking of USA President Obama's choice to abstain from voting, Netanyahu stated that Obama went against Israel, backing out of the commitment it had made to stand for Israel. "The decision not only does not help us make peace, it stands in the way of peace," stated Netanyahu. “Israel will not accept the decision and it will be cancelled,” he said, "though it may take time". He also stated that Israel would stop funding UN institutions.

The UN Security Council voted on Friday, 23 Dec. 2016 to adopt a resolution condemning Israeli settlement activity as illegal, and demanding that Israel "immediately and completely cease all settlement activities in the 'occupied' Palestinian territory, including east Jerusalem". Fourteen out of the 15 voting members of the Council voted in favor of the resolution, none voted against it, and the United States chose to abstain instead of casting its veto on the initiative. The new resolution, which is the most extreme ever issued, claims all Israeli towns built outside the pre-1967 borders are illegal and renders their residents international criminals. Netanyahu, on Sunday, 25 Dec. 2016 instructed that the ambassadors of those countries that voted in favor of the UN Security Council anti-Israel resolution be summoned for reprimand at the Foreign Ministry. (J.Post) Intercede that both Israel and the USA, after Trump is inaugurated, will de-fund the UN and that this shocking betrayal of Israel on the part of Obama and his administration will be reversed.

NETANYAHU CALLS UN RESOLUTION ‘ABSURD’: Israeli PM Netanyahu has called the UN Security Council's Resolution 2334 "even more absurd than saying the Western Wall was occupied territory. This is a failed attempt to force an outside agreement on Israel. Their last attempt to accomplish this was led by President Carter, who hated Israel," Netanyahu said. "Carter passed anti-Israel resolutions in the UN, similar to these resolutions, but he did not succeed. We opposed his resolutions and nothing happened. All the American presidents after Carter have stood by the USA promise not to allow the UN to force Israel to do anything. President Barack Obama violated this promise, as well as his own promise from 2011, when he did not use his veto power to veto this resolution in the UN. We completely oppose this resolution. Friday's decision is a call to arms for all of Israel's friends in the USA, and all those who are sick of the anti-Israel bias in the UN." Netanyahu also said he would no longer fund five UN institutions.

UN Resolution 2334, passed Friday 23 Dec. 2016, states that all building in Judea, Samaria, and eastern Jerusalem is completely illegal, violates international law, and harms potential for a two-state solution. The resolution requires Israel to immediately cease all building in all areas outside of the pre-1967 borders, and states that the UN will not recognize anything outside the pre-1967 borders unless it has been formally agreed upon by both Israel and the Palestinian Authority. (Arutz-7)

RIVLIN: UN RESOLUTION IS ‘SHAMEFUL, GRAVE, UNFORTUNATE’: Israeli President Reuven Rivalling responded on Saturday night, 24 Dec. 2016, to the previous day’s UN Security Council Resolution by announcing his intention to light the third night's Hanukkah candles in the Binyamin Region town of Beit El. "A united Jerusalem is the eternal capital of Israel, and it will remain our capital. No international body can undermine that fact," Rivlin said. "This embarrassing, grave, and unfortunate decision was made by the UN in order to harm Israel politically. This decision does not bring negotiations with the Palestinians any closer, and in fact pushes them farther away. There will never be any replacement for direct negotiations between two sides," Rivlin emphasized. "We expected the USA, our greatest ally and friend, who has stood beside Israel and helped us with our security needs uncompromisingly for so many years, to stand beside Israel now, as well. We expected the USA not to throw Israel into the hands of a cynical international group with interests foreign to Israel's. This year, I will light the third Hanukkah candle in Beit El, together with Jewish settlers in Judea and Samaria," he concluded. (Israel National News)

BENNETT: APPLY ISRAELI LAW IN JUDEA AND SAMARIA: Israel’s Education Minister Naftali Bennett spoke about the UN's latest anti-Israel resolution on Saturday night, 24 Dec.2016. "We're about to go from retreat to sovereignty. Thousands of terrorists the world over are looking at the UN's decision. They see it as a call to arms. This decision is a direct result of Oslo's policy of surrender, retreat, and divisions. It's a result of public agreement to create a Palestinian state in our country's heartland. This resolution will be thrown into history's garbage can, just like its predecessors," Bennett said. "We have not gained honor and love by retreating, but shame and international pressure to surrender even more. This is the time to make a 180 degree turn. It's time to go from retreat to sovereignty," he emphasized. "The conclusion needs to be that we will no longer agree to suicide through creating a Palestinian state, and we will work to apply Israeli law in Ma'ale Adumim, in the Jordan Valley, in Ofra, and in all of Area C as soon as possible." Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked echoed Bennett's sentiments in a Facebook post. Shaked wrote that "the Security Council's decision on the eve of the Hanukkah holiday is reminiscent of something from our history. Only this time we're strong enough that this decision will not change our strength, not in the least bit." Shaked then directed her criticism directly at the UN. "There's something so lame about this moment when the Security Council votes on an anti-Israeli resolution and everyone claps. It's a moment that signifies all the corruption in this body that's called the UN."

“We feel betrayed, extremely frustrated. We are angry. This is not how you treat friends,” said Cabinet minister Yuval Steinitz. Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely), who is currently on an official visit to Georgia, said, "The Obama administration will not be able to cover up its failure in Aleppo with its shameful decision regarding Israel. He who was unsuccessful in his fight against darker regimes, is now attempting to harm his only democratic ally in the Middle East. History shows there are events which create drastic changes in Israel's response. History will remember the UN Security Council's Resolution 2334 as the one which brought about Israeli sovereignty in Judea and Samaria. No decision will cause Israel to stop building on its own land," Hotovely concluded. (Israel National News)

LAPID: UN RESOLUTION IS DANGEROUS, UNFAIR: Yesh Atid Chairman Yair Lapid on Saturday night, 24 Dec. 2016 spoke out about Friday's anti-Israel UN resolution. "The decision made by the UN Security Council on Friday is dangerous and unfair, and Israel will not accept it. The UN no longer tries to hide its anti-Israel bias. Outgoing Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon even admitted last week to this bias. Yesterday's decision was a hypocritical act. The UN Security Council has kept silent while 400,000 Syrians were brutally murdered, and it will not control sovereign Israel. When terror organizations such as Hamas praise terror attacks on civilians, the UN Security Council stays silent. It's obvious whose interests the Council serves," Lapid said. "The drama was not only with the USA. It turned out no country in the world - none at all - agrees with Israel. We had no supporters in that vote," he emphasized. "We have been completely left out of everything important. We have failed to properly present ourselves to the international community. We were surprised. We were caught unprepared. We must never be caught unprepared. Just like the IDF cannot be unprepared for war, the government cannot be unprepared for political surprises from the international community. Those countries which Netanyahu promised us were allies - Russia, England, Egypt - were the very countries who pushed for this vote." (Arutz-7) Intercede that Israel will not be caught unaware of political or military moves or surprise attacks in the coming days. Pray according to scripture: “Indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.” Ps 121:4

PMW: DID FATAH THANK UN FOR PERMISSION TO KILL: Palestinian Media Watch asked, Sunday 25 Dec. 2016: Is Fatah thanking the 14 members of the UN Security Council for its vote against Israel's presence beyond the 1949 Armistice Line because they interpret the UN as granting Fatah permission to kill Israelis? Or is Fatah thanking them because now that the UN declared settlements "illegal" it sees itself free to kill more Israelis? As evidence, three days ago Fatah's official Facebook page posted a drawing of its map of "Palestine," which includes all of Israel and painted like the Palestinian flag, being used to stab the word "settlement." The text above the image: "Palestine will defeat the settlements." On Saturday, 24 Dec. 2016, in response to the UN resolution, Fatah republished the identical image but added a pool of blood at the bottom, and the words "Thank You" above the image, and the names of the 14 countries that voted in favor of the UN resolution. The United States, whose abstention instead of a veto actually enabled the resolution to pass, is not mentioned. (PMW)

ARABS SEE UN RESOLUTION AS STEP TOWARDS DESTRUCTION OF ISRAEL: Dr. Ephraim Herrera, an expert on Islam, sees the Islamic response to the recent anti-Israel resolution in the UN Security Council as part of their new war against Israel. "Fatah, Hamas, and Islamic Jihad all see the Security Council resolution condemning Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria as a historic achievement. The Security Council is now on record that Israeli control of all areas beyond the 1949 armistice line is invalid," said Herrera. "This is a further step for the Palestinian Arabs in their new war. The Muslim world realized that classical war against Israel has been a failure. The present war is a war over world consciousness and is being waged diplomatically, economically, politically, and legally in order to cause the collapse of the state of Israel". He noted that "Abbas said a long time ago that he would never recognize the State of Israel as a Jewish state - and is demanding the return of millions of refugees to Israel. The process of arousing international pressure to the point that not a single country defended the right of the State of Israel to even part of Judea and Samaria, is for them a primary way of pursuing their goal. They’re now calling for using this resolution to help reach their final goal." (INN)

IRANIAN COMMANDER THREATENS ISRAEL IN WAKE OF ALEPPO VICTORY: After the victory of the forces of Syrian President Bashar Assad and his Iranian allies against the last bastion of rebels in Aleppo, the deputy commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, Gen. Hossein Salami, sent a threatening message to Israel: "After the victory of Hezbollah in Aleppo, it will not hesitate to do similarly to the cities of Israel.” Hezbollah "is ready to stage battles in Tel Aviv, Acre, Nahariya and other cities. Hezbollah has now become an influential regional power on par with the United States, Saudi Arabia, and the Zionist entity," he continued. “On the other side stand the supporters of Syria and the resistance front." (Arutz-7) “When the wicked came against me to eat up my flesh, my enemies and foes, they stumbled and fell. Though an army may encamp against me, my heart shall not fear. Though war may rise against me, in this I will be confident.” Ps 27: 2-3

JNN News Update Dec. 22, 2016

NETANYAHU: REVOLUTION IN INTERNATIONAL ATTITUDE TOWARDS ISRAEL: PM Binyamin Netanyahu on Tues. 20 Dec. 2016, addressed reporters on a wide variety of subjects at the annual new year's event he holds with the foreign press. The Prime Minister called on Western countries to unite against Islamist terrorism. "We can defeat it if the whole world will join forces to wage a joint war on terror wherever it is." He stated that Jewish communities in Judea & Samaria are not an obstacle to peace. "I don't understand why Jews can't live in Judea & Samaria under any conditions." He said that Israel would not return to the 1949 Armistice Lines, adding that the Arabs consider all of Israel occupied territory anyway, including Tel Aviv and Haifa. Netanyahu said that he had spoken with Palestinian Authority (PA) chairman Mahmoud Abbas dozens of times and repeatedly called for negotiations without preconditions, but he said Abbas is "betting on the idea of an international dictate."

Netanyahu said that he looked forward to working with USA President-elect Donald Trump and spoke of his recent visits to two Muslim countries, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. He added that Israel's relationship with the international community is changing for the better. He also addressed the humanitarian crisis in Syria. "We see the tragedy, the terrible suffering of civilians, and I've asked the Foreign Ministry to seek ways to expand our medical assistance to casualties of the Syrian tragedy, specifically in Aleppo where we're prepared to take in wounded women and children and also men if they're not combatants. We'd like to do that, bring them to Israel, take care of them in our hospitals, as we've done with thousands of Syrian civilians. Ways to do this are being explored even as we speak." (INN)

EREKAT THREATENS: PLO WILL CANCEL ITS ‘RECOGNITION OF ISRAEL’: Saeb Erekat, Secretary General of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), is threatening that the PLO will revoke all its previously signed agreements with Israel as well as its 1993 "recognition of Israel" if USA President-elect Donald Trump follows through on his pledge to move the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Erekat said such a move would indicate the USA’s acceptance of “Israel’s illegal annexation of eastern Jerusalem." The eastern part of Jerusalem includes the Old City, the ancient Mount of Olives Jewish cemetery, the Western Wall and the Temple Mount, all conquered and occupied illegally by Jordan during Israel's 1948 War of Independence, when 7 Arab states attacked the fledgling Jewish state the day after it was declared. Jordan did not allow Jews access to the holy sites, blew up the historic Hurva Synagogue during the war and later destroyed many of the tombstones at the cemetery. Erekat also claimed that all American embassies in the Arab world would be forced to close as a result of the move because "the infuriated public in the Arab world would not ‘allow’ for the embassies to continue operating.” (Arutz-7) Palestinian claims to sovereignty over portions of Israel, and particularly over Jerusalem, are illegitimate not only in light of biblical history, but in light of centuries of history. Jewish identification with the land of Israel goes back almost 4,000 years to the time when God told Abraham to leave his homeland of Ur and go "to the land that I will show you" (Gen 12:1). Israel became a nation 2,000 years before the rise of Islam in the seventh century AD, and has had a continual presence in the Holy Land for many centuries. The insistence that Jerusalem must be the capital of an independent Palestinian state is especially ludicrous. Jerusalem has been the Jewish capital since the time of King David. Even when Jordan occupied Jerusalem, it never sought to make it their capital. Jerusalem is mentioned hundreds of times in the Hebrew Scriptures, but not once in the Koran. Mohammed never visited Jerusalem. The holy city is the rightful capital of the Jewish State.

A USA EMBASSY IN JERUSALEM WON’T HURT THE CHANCES FOR PEACE: Opponents say moving the USA Embassy to Jerusalem would poison chances for an Israel-Palestinian compromise over the city. But the relocation would merely acknowledge the reality that Israel will never give up Jerusalem in any negotiated settlement. It might even help by sending a useful message to the Palestinians that their maximalist claims to Israeli territory are an obstacle to peace. Neighboring Arab states might protest for public show, but they have been getting closer to Israel for their own shared strategic reasons - i.e., the common enemies of jihadists and Iran. The symbolism of the USA Embassy location won't stop that co-operation. If the location of an embassy is enough to block peace talks, then there must not be much of an underlying basis for peace. Mr. Trump says he still wants to revive talks, and if moving the USA Embassy reassures Israelis of USA support, so much the better. (Wall St. Journal) “I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they shall never hold their peace day or night. You who make mention of the Lord, do not keep silent, and give Him no rest till He establishes and till He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.” Isa 62:6-7

ISRAELI ENVOY: USA EMBASSY MOVE TO JERUSALEM A ‘STEP FORWARD’ FOR PEACE: Speaking at an Israeli embassy Hanukkah party in Washington, Israel's ambassador Ron Dermer said that relocating the USA embassy to Jerusalem would be a "great step forward to peace" and a move that "should have happened a long time ago. It would send a strong message against the de-legitimization of Israel." Dermer said he hoped that next year when the new USA ambassador lights the traditional Hanukkah candles in his embassy, he will do so in Jerusalem.(Reuters)

ISIS CLAIMS RESPONSIBILITY FOR BERLIN ATTACK: The ISIS terrorist group on Tues. 20 Dec. 2016, said the driver of the truck that plowed into a Christmas market in Berlin the previous day was "targeting citizens of the Crusader coalition," according to the group's news agency, Amaq. Meanwhile, German police are desperately hunting a Tunisian man suspected of Monday's deadly truck attack, hoping to catch him before he can repeat the monstrous act that left a dozen dead and 48 injured, according to reports. The 23-year-old suspect's documents were found inside the cab of the truck used to mow down civilians at the market, and he was identified as going by "Ahmed" or "Anis A.," among other suspected aliases, police sources told German media. The Tunisian suspect was in contact with Islamist terrorists in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) and was known to German security agencies, the state's Interior Minister said on Wed. 21 Dec. 2016. (Fox/Jerusalem Post)

GERMANY’S YEAR FROM HELL: HOW THE COUNTRY HAS BEEN ROCKED BY SEVEN TERROR ATTACKS LEAVING 22 DEAD: The following terrorist attacks have taken place in Germany in 2016: One teenage girl stabbed a police woman in Hanover on 27 February. Three teenagers tried to bomb a Sikh Temple in Essen in April. One man tried to kill commuters with an ax on board a train in Wurzburg. Ali Sonboly, 18, gunned down nine people and wounded 35 in Munich in July. On 19 December, a hijacked truck was used to kill 12 people and injure 48 in a terrorist attack on a Berlin Christmas market. The killer is still at large. Germany has been subjected to a year of terror with 22 innocent people killed in seven different terror attacks since January 2016. Some 112 people have been wounded in the assaults which have used explosives, firearms, knives an ax and now a truck. Several of the attacks have been claimed by ISIS and have involved asylum seekers from Syria and Afghanistan. (UK Daily Mail)

‘EUROPE HAS A HUGE PROBLEM AND IT REFUSES TO ADMIT IT’: Referring to this week’s assassination of the Russian ambassador in Turkey, Middle East expert Dr. Ephraim Herrera pointed out that the murderer was a Turkish police officer. [Turkey is 73% Sunni Muslim.] “Russia is leading a war against Sunni Muslims in Syria. 85% of the Muslims in the world are Sunnis, but Russia decided to support the Shiites and Iran against the Sunnis. So they will get revenge,” said Herrera. “You can be sure that religious Sunni Muslims will take revenge, because in Islamic law when a country leads a war against the Islamic nation, there is an ‘individual duty’ for each Muslim to fight against this country,” he continued. As for the Berlin terrorist attack, Herrera said that “ever since Germany joined the international coalition against ISIS, they are considered an enemy of the Islamic nation, and since they are now enemies, each Muslim must kill them as people who attacked Islam.” He predicted that there will be “many” more similar attacks in the future in Europe. “You have many mosques in Germany which teach jihad. Just last year, one million Muslims entered Germany. There are hundreds of Muslims going from European countries to Syria to fight there. So Europe has a huge problem and until now they have closed their eyes and they refuse to recognize the nature of the problem." (Arutz-7) Ongoing prayer is needed that government leaders in Europe, Canada and the USA will not be naive or downplay the dangers of terrorists infiltrating their borders along with streams of refugees - the majority of who - have been brainwashed to be hostile to the West. Pray for vigilance, wisdom and strategy for those who are the gatekeepers to your countries, states, cities and rural areas.

TEL AVIV’S ROOFTOP FARM GROWS FRESH FOOD FOR THOUSANDS: Dizengoff Center is a vast shopping mall in central Tel Aviv. There is a vegetable stand just inside the door, built of wood and packed with bags of fresh, wet leafy greens and herbs. The vegetables sell out so quickly that the stand has to be restocked four times daily. They're grown on the roof of the shopping center. An urban rooftop farm has been established over the past year with two commercial greenhouses and 750 sq.m. of growing space. The rooftop farm produces 10,000 heads of lettuce per month year-round, and grows 17 different varieties of greens and herbs using a variety of hydroponic systems that grow food two times faster than in soil. Tel Aviv’s urban rooftop farm does more than just grow vegetables to sell. The farm features an educational space where farmers teach public classes on urban farming and cooking. The group also sells hydroponic kits and helps people learn how to grow their own food at home. (Inhabitat/Treehugger)

JNN News Update Dec. 21, 2016

RUSSIAN AMBASSADOR TO TURKEY KILLED IN SHOOTING ATTACK: The Russian ambassador to Ankara Andrei Karlov was killed in a gun attack in the Turkish capital on Mon. 19 Dec. 2016. The gunman who assassinated Russia's ambassador to Ankara, Andrey Karlov, at an art exhibition shouted out "Aleppo" and "revenge" as he fired, according to an eyewitness account. "When the ambassador was delivering a speech, a tall man wearing a suit fired into the air first and then took aim at the ambassador," said Hasim Kilic, a correspondent for a Turkish daily. The attack came after days of protests in Turkey over Russia's role in Syria. According to information released by Turkish authorities the gunman was one of the rebels against the Syrian army. Security forces tracked down the suspect and after a short gunfight he was shot dead. (Arutz-7)

12 DEAD, 48 WOUNDED AS TRUCK PLOWS INTO BERLIN CHRISTMAS MARKET: An unidentified man hijacked a 25-ton truck and plowed through crowds in Berlin's Breitscheidplatz Square, on Mon. evening, 19 Dec. 2016, killing 12 people and injuring 48. The truck's original Polish driver was found dead in the cab, apparently murdered. German police are still searching for the attacker, after an initial suspect was deemed to be innocent. German media, citing police at the scene, said the attack took place on the market, situated at the foot of the ruined Kaiser Wilhelm memorial church, which was kept as a bombed-out ruin after WWII. The truck careered into the Berlin market at what would have been one of the most crowded times for the Christmas market, when adults and children would be gathering in the traditional cluster of wooden huts that sell food and Christmas goods.

In the last few weeks, European sources have warned that ISIS is planning on carrying out terrorist attacks around Christmas, and that open-air markets will be the organization's prime targets. The USA has issued similar warnings regarding such markets. The tragedy came just hours after the Russian ambassador to Ankara Andrei Karlov was shot in a terrorist attack at an art gallery in the Turkish capital. Meanwhile, Angela Merkel has said she is 'shocked, shaken and deeply saddened' by the Berlin market attack. The German Chancellor is facing a furious backlash over her open-doors policy on immigration in the wake of the assault. Merkel has come under huge political pressure for allowing nearly a million people fleeing conflict and poverty in the Middle East and Africa to arrive in the country this year and last. (Ynet/UK Dailymail) Pray for the wounded and the grieving in this latest brutal attack. Please intercede against terrorist hits across the globe during the Christmas and Hanukkah season.

BERLIN ATTACKER STILL ON THE LOOSE, WRONG MAN IN CUSTODY, POLICE SOURCES SAY: The hunt is still on for the driver who rammed a Berlin crowd on Monday 19 Dec. 2016, killing at least 12, as authorities now believe they have the wrong person in custody. The Pakistani asylum-seeker arrested Monday and suspected of the attack has denied involvement, officials have said. "We have the wrong man and therefore a new situation," a senior police chief told Germany's Die Welt newspaper. "The true perpetrator is still armed, at large and can cause fresh damage." Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere -- Germany's top security official -- said that authorities have "no doubt" that the attack was intentional. (Fox) Pray that the man responsible for the Berlin attack will be quickly apprehended before being able carrying out more deadly violence.

TRUMP SAYS TERRORISTS ‘MUST BE ERADICATED FROM THE FACE OF THE EARTH’ FOLLOWING BERLIN ATTACK: Donald Trump has vowed to 'eradicate' terrorists from the 'face of the earth' after 12 people were killed at a Berlin Christmas market: 'Our hearts and prayers are with the loved ones of the victims of today's horrifying terror attack in Berlin. Innocent civilians were murdered in the streets as they prepared to celebrate the Christmas holiday. ISIS and other Islamist terrorists continually slaughter Christians in their communities and places of worship as part of their global jihad. These terrorists and their regional and worldwide networks must be eradicated from the face of the earth, a mission we will carry out with all freedom-loving partners.”

However, President Barack Obama has yet to comment on the incident as he is currently enjoying his annual Christmas vacation in Hawaii. But the White House did release a statement confirming the President was being kept up-to-date on the latest events in Berlin as well as the assassination of the Russian ambassador to Turkey. Meanwhile White House National Security Council spokesman Ned Price said: 'The United States condemns in the strongest terms what appears to have been a terrorist attack on a Christmas Market in Berlin, Germany, which has killed and wounded dozens. Germany is one of our closest partners and strongest allies, and we stand together with Berlin in the fight against all those who target our way of life and threaten our societies.” (UK Dailymail)

PM Binyamin Netanyahu expressed his condolences to the German people following Monday night's 19 Dec. 2016, terrorist attack. “We send our condolence to the families of those killed, to the German government and a speedy recovery to the injured, including an Israeli citizen. This attack, along with other terror incidents, shows that terror is spreading to every place in the world and can only be stopped if we fight it, and we will beat it." he added. "But we will beat it faster if all free nations unite and join the war to defeat terrorism." Global Jewish leaders have also sent condolences to Berlin Christmas market victims and their loved ones in the wake of Monday's tragedy. (INN/J.Post) Pray that world governments will recognize and be united against Islamist incitement to carry out acts of terror across the globe - and that the nations will honor rather than demean Israel for its stand against Hamas, the Palestinian Authority and Hezbollah terrorist organizations. Pray for stiff penalties for individuals and organizations that carry out and glorify in acts of terror.

ISRAELI SECURITY FORCES DISCOVER ‘LARGEST-EVER’ ILLEGAL WEAPONS FACTORY IN JUDEA & SAMARIA: Israeli security forces this week found what they are calling the largest illegal weapons factory ever discovered –underneath a Palestinian home in Hebron. Security forces discovered more than 100 Carl Gustav m/45 barrels, Russian 7.62 sniper rifles and M16 rifle parts with assembly instructions. Forces also seized 15 lathes (a machine for shaping metal) and other production materials used for making illegal homemade weapons. The raid, which involved hundreds of soldiers from several IDF units and the Israeli Border Police, is part of an ongoing campaign by security forces to uncover and destroy illegal weapons production facilities in Judea & Samaria that have been used in terror attacks against Israel. Security forces seized the weapons from the facility and arrested two of the factory’s owners, a father and son, who were interrogated by the Shin Bet security agency. During an initial interrogation, the father claimed the facility, which sat underneath his home, was producing farming equipment. (Algemeiner)

ARAB MEMBER OF KNESSET SUSPECTED OF HIGH TREASON: Basel Ghattas, a member of the Joint Arab List faction in Israel’s Knesset, is suspected of committing high treason. Israel Police reported on 18 Dec. 2016 that they have “substantial evidence” that Ghattas smuggled cellphones to jailed Palestinian terrorists. Ghattas often visits Palestinian terrorists in Israeli prisons, as he sees himself as part of the Arab “struggle” against the Jewish state. On several of those visits, police officials say the lawmaker smuggled 15 cellphones to two specific Palestinian prisoners. Following his visit to prisoners this week, authorities tried to stop and question Ghattas. But he cited his immunity as a member of Knesset and refused. Now police officials are opening an investigation into his conduct, and not a few Knesset members are calling for Ghattas to have his immunity stripped. A former commissioner of the Israel Prison Service said Ghattas could face serious jail time if convicted. Of course, he could also decide to flee the country like former Arab Member of Knesset Azmi Bishara did after it was discovered he was aiding Hezbollah in a time of war. (Israel Today)

OBAMA WASHES HIS HANDS OF SYRIA: President Barack Obama says Assad, Russia and Iran have blood on their hands, and the USA has no way to save Syria without conquering it. The USA president declared last weekend that Bashar al-Assad's Syrian regime, Iran and Russia are responsible for the carnage in Aleppo and argued there was nothing Washington could have done to stop the war, short of a military takeover of Syria. And he warned Assad, who has been engaged in a brutal civil war against opposition forces since 2011, that he will not be able to slaughter his way to legitimacy. "The world as we speak is united in horror at the savage assault by the Syrian regime and its Russian and Iranian allies on the city of Aleppo," he told an end-of-year news conference. "This blood and these atrocities are on their hands," he said. Obama also admitted that he had asked himself whether the United States did enough to halt the conflict. But he concluded that there was no public appetite for the kind of large-scale USA military intervention earlier in the war that he believes would have been the only way to halt it.

Russia, meanwhile, is working with Turkey to oversee an evacuation of the last rebel-held pocket of Aleppo. On Friday 16 Dec. 2016, the Syrian government suspended that operation, trapping thousands of civilians and rebel fighters in the city and increasing fears of a bloodbath to come. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon warned that Aleppo had become "a synonym for hell" and urged "the parties to take all necessary measures to allow safe resumption of this evacuation process." (Arutz-7)

ISRAELIS RALLY FOR SYRIAN CIVIL WAR VICTIMS: Hundreds of Israelis gathered outside the Russian and USA embassies in Tel Aviv on 18 Dec. 2016 to protest the international community’s failure to stop the reported massacre of civilians in the Syrian city of Aleppo. “I’m here doing the only thing I can, because I feel powerless in this ordeal,” one protester told media sources. “There are people who are suffering, so we have to do something.” Another protester, Rabbi Hananel Rosen, explained why Israeli Jews would take up the cause of even their most intractable enemies: “God created the world and everybody in it in the image of God, and if we’re not willing to put our foot down about that, then we’ll find ourselves religiously and morally wanting.” Meanwhile, an Israeli grassroots campaign aiming to bring emergency supplies to embattled Syrians, on Mon. 19 Dec. 2016, surpassed its set goal to raise $155,000 for Syrian children. ‘FREE ZION’ COIN MINTED 1,967 YEARS AGO UNVEILED: Long before the “Free Palestine’ slogan became popular – in fact about 1,967 years before – a “‘Freedom of Zion” coin was minted and circulated in Jerusalem. Culture and Sport Minister Miri Regev unveiled that coin at Sunday’s 11 Dec. 2016 cabinet meeting as part of a presentation she gave about preparations for next year’s celebration of 50 years since the reunification of Jerusalem. The coin was uncovered during an excavation about a month ago in Jerusalem. The ancient coin was one of a series minted during the Jewish revolt against the Romans that eventually led to the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 A.D. The flip-side of the coin bears the inscription, “Two years to the Great Revolt,” which dates it to the year 67. “Exactly 1,900 years later, in 1967, the paratroopers entered Jerusalem’s Old City and renewed its freedom, and ours,” Regev said.

Regev, noting the recent “ridiculous” UNESCO resolutions that sought to expunge any Jewish connection to the Temple Mount, said, “In 1967 we returned to Bet El, Hebron, Shiloh and Elon Moreh. These are places stamped into Jewish history and Jewish identity, where our patriarchs and matriarchs walked, where Joshua and the Judges walked, places where the prophets prophesied. And the peak, of course, is our return to a united Jerusalem, the liberation of all Jerusalem, including places holy to us, first and foremost the Temple Mount.” Noting the upcoming jubilee celebration, PM Benjamin Netanyahu said that “until the Six Day War we Jerusalemites lived under the fear of sniper fire and war in the middle of the city. The liberation of Jerusalem changed the city fundamentally,” he added. “Jerusalem ceased being a border town; rather it became the vibrant capital of Israel.” (J.Post) Pray for the peace of Jerusalem according to scripture: “At that time Jerusalem shall be called The Throne of the Lord, and all the nations shall be gathered to it, to the name of the Lord, to Jerusalem. No more shall they follow the dictates of their evil hearts.” Jer 3:17

TRUMP “FEELS VERY WARMLY” ABOUT ISRAEL AND JEWS, SAYS NETANYAHU: In an interview with 60 Minutes on 11 Dec. 2016, Israel’s PM Netanyahu said he’s never been more hopeful about Israel’s place in the world than he is now - and that he welcomes the presidency of Donald Trump. “I know him very well,” Netanyahu told interviewer Lesley Stahl. “And I think his attitude, his support for Israel is very clear. He feels very warmly about the Jewish state and about Jewish people. There’s no question about that.” Netanyahu has served the longest stretch as prime minister in Israel’s history. He optimistically told Stahl he expects USA-Israel relations to grow stronger under a Trump administration. Meanwhile, Kellyanne Conway, a senior adviser to President-elect Donald Trump, stated this week that Trump is determined to transfer the USA embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem after he takes office on 20 January 2016. "That is very big priority for this president-elect," Conway said in a radio interview. "He made it very clear during the campaign," she said, adding that she has heard Trump reiterate it in private meetings since he was elected. (CBS/Ha’aretz)

NY TIMES EXECUTIVE EDITOR: ‘WE DON’T GET RELIGION’: The executive editor of the New York Times, Dean Baquet, said in an interview last week that journalists at his publication, and elsewhere, have a hard time understanding religion and the role it plays in people's lives. "I think that the New York- and Washington-based media powerhouses don't quite get religion. We don't get the role of religion in people's lives. And I think we can do much, much better." The editor, who has helmed the Times since 2014, added that he believed "there are things that we can be more creative about to understand the country." Since President-elect Donald Trump's unforeseen victory over Hillary Clinton last month, various news outlets have pondered how forecasts and predictions could have been so wrong. "That's how I look at it," Baquet said. "I now have two big jobs. Big job one is to cover the most compelling and unusual president we have had in my lifetime. Big job two is to really understand and explain the forces in America that led to Americans wanting a change so much that they were willing to select such a different figure for the White House." (NY Times) “God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty.” 1 Cor.1:27

FATAH TV BROADCASTS TERROR-SONG 72 TIMES IN ONE MONTH: Palestinian Media Watch reports that the official Fatah TV station broadcasted the same terror-promoting song 72 times in Nov. 2016 alone. The lyrics to the song are: “From my wounds, my weapon has emerged. O, our revolution, my weapon has emerged. There is no force in the world that can remove the weapon from my hand. My weapon has emerged." In at least one of the broadcasts, Fatah leader and former Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat is shown saying: "For our movement, ‘armed struggle’ means taking part in an armed revolutionary war of the masses." The song was played on average more than twice a day throughout the month of Nov. 2016, which was the same month in which Fatah held its seventh congress. According to PMW, the same terror-promoting song has been broadcast hundreds of times on Awdah TV since February 2015. (Artuz-7)

Hamas official Fathi Hammad on Al-Aqsa TV has announced the terror organization is willing to supply rockets and weapons to anyone willing to fight Israel. Though Israel decimated 80% of Hamas' weapons stockpile during 2014's Operation Protective Edge, Hamas has continued to manufacture and smuggle rockets and weapons. It is estimated they now own tens of thousands of rockets which may be used against Israel. Hamas' stockpile includes upgraded short-range rockets, as well as the longer-range M-75, which can easily hit Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. As well, Hamas owns Syrian M-302s and is able to manufacture Iran's Fajr-5 which can carry up to 175 kilograms of explosives. In addition, Hamas has continued work on their complex and expansive network of terror tunnels, which now crisscross the entirety of Gaza. While Israeli citizens tend to rely on Israel's famous Iron Dome missile defense system, many do not realize Hamas figured out how to defeat the Iron Dome at the end of Operation Protective Edge. Operation Protective Edge was forced to end prematurely after USA President Barack Obama refused to supply Israel with more Iron Dome missiles unless Israel ended the war targeting Hamas' leaders, tunnels, and weapons stockpile. (Arutz-7) Pray according to scripture: “Let those be put to shame and brought to dishonor who seek after my life; let those be turned back and brought to confusion who plot my hurt.” Ps 35:4

It is a miracle on 34th Street. Macy’s will no longer donate money to Planned Parenthood. The famous department store group has dropped the role of benefactor to Planned Parenthood - their decision prompted by pro-life customers who complained about the practice. And Macy’s responded. Still, 36 other major retailers and businesses continue donating to the cause, including Ben & Jerry’s, Nike, American Express, Starbucks and Verizon. “This Christmas, pro-lifers should consider shopping at Macy’s. Because, as it turns out, the giant chain listens to its conservative consumers,” notes Katie Yoder, an analyst with Newsbusters.com who monitors corporate advocacy efforts. “It’s unlikely that liberal media outlets - which boast strong ties to Planned Parenthood and have been instructed not to expose the abortion giant - will publicize Macy’s funding halt,” she adds. BAVARIA PASSES NEW LAW TO MAKE MIGRANTS RESPECT ‘DOMINANT’ LOCAL CULTURE: The German state of Bavaria has passed a controversial new integration law requiring all immigrants to respect the 'dominant' local culture. The state's governing Christian Social Union (CSU) said the new legislation was being introduced to cope with an influx of hundreds of thousands of asylum-seekers under German Chancellor Angela Merkel's 'open-door' refugee policy. Germany took in more than 1 million migrants last year, after Angela Merkel announced it would accept all Syrians escaping from the war-torn country. Following the influx of migrants, Bavaria was the first state to dictate where asylum seekers will live, in an attempt to stop them gathering in segregated communities within Germany. “We are guaranteeing that migrants in Bavaria live with us, not alongside us,” said minister for social affairs Emilia Müller. The new law also provides extra funding for schools and German language classes. (UK Daily Mail)

TURKISH COURT DROPS CASE AGAINST IDF COMMANDERS: In accordance with a reconciliation deal with Israel, a court in Istanbul days ago dropped a case against four top former Israeli commanders who were being tried in absentia over the 2010 raid of the Mavi Marmara ship bound for Gaza. Dropping the charges against the Israeli commanders was a key pillar of a deal agreed between Israel and Turkey in June 2016 to normalize bilateral ties. The Mavi Marmara incident occurred when IDF soldiers boarded the ship after the Islamists on board, who claimed they were carrying humanitarian aid for Gaza, refused to reverse course and dock at the Ashdod Port. As soon as they boarded the ship, the soldiers were attacked by the Islamists with clubs and knives, forcing the troops to open fire and killing 10 of those on board. Upon inspection it was discovered that there was no humanitarian aid whatsoever aboard the Marmara. After the raid Turkey angrily cut off ties with Israel. As part of the reconciliation agreement in June, Israel also paid $20 million in compensation to Turkey for the Marmara incident. (Arutz-7)

CAIRO CATHEDRAL BLAST LEAVES AT LEAST 25 DEAD: A 12-kilogram TNT bomb caused the explosion at a Coptic church in Cairo on Sunday morning, 11 Dec. 2016. The blast left at least 25 people dead and dozens injured. The explosion took place in the small church of St. Peter and St. Paul attached to the St. Mark's Coptic Orthodox Cathedral, said the Church's Rev. Paul Halim. The attack targeted one of the most symbolic religious sites for Copts, an ethno-religious group centered in Egypt. The Coptic Orthodox Church released a statement on its Facebook page, saying in part: "As we are bereaved by this violence and terrorism that attacks worshipers, we pray for these martyrs and for the wounded. The Egyptian church stresses on persevering national unity that keeps all Egyptians on Egypt's blessed land." President Abdel Fattah El Sisi condemned the attack and declared a three-day period of national mourning. (CNN) Intercede for those who have lost beloved family and friends as a result of this brutal attack and for those who have suffered injury to be comforted and healed. Pray that those who planned and carried out this bombing will be apprehended and brought to justice.

TWIN BOMBING OUTSIDE ISTANBUL SOCCER STADIUM KILLS 38, WOUNDS 166: Twenty-nine people were killed and 166 wounded in Istanbul on Saturday 10 Dec. 2016, when twin bombings struck the heart of the city close to the stadium of top flight football giants Besiktas after a major game. The two blasts, apparently one by a car bomb and one by a suicide bomber, occurred less than a minute apart, after the end of a soccer match in the center of Istanbul. Most of the dead were police officers, and Turkish officials said at least ten people had been arrested in connection with the attack. Turkey’s Deputy PM Numan Kurtulmus said that the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) could be behind the attack. TV footage showed what appeared to be the wreckage of a burned out car and two separate fires on the road outside the stadium. President Tayyip Erdogan described the blasts as a terrorist attack on police and civilians. He said the aim of the bombings, attended by thousands of people, had been to cause the maximum number of casualties. “Nobody should doubt that we as a nation will overcome terror, terrorist organization and the forces behind them,” he said. Turkey declared a national day of mourning after the attack. In June, three suicide bombers, apparently from ISIS, killed 45 people at Istanbul’s main airport. (Medialine)

HAMAS TERRORIST CELL PLANNING TO ATTACK ARMY BASE UNCOVERED IN JERUSALEM: A “serious terrorist attack in Jerusalem” was prevented by the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) in conjunction with Israel Police, it was announced on 9 Dec. 2016. Security forces uncovered an eight-person terror cell of east Jerusalem residents, planning to carry out a shooting attack against an IDF base in Jerusalem. The cell, made up of mostly minors and Hamas activists, were arrested last month. During the investigation, some of the cell members admitted to having taken part in violent demonstrations during the month of Ramadan in the Old City of Jerusalem and the Temple Mount, as well as during memorial rallies for terrorists who had been killed by security forces. According to the Shin Bet, the cell “demonstrates the grave danger of attackers with Israeli documentation who enjoy freedom of movement and have access to arms and the relative ease of carrying out assaults.” Likewise, on Sunday 11 Dec. 2016, Israeli security forces managed to arrest at a security checkpoint an Arab who intended to carry out a stabbing attack at the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron. The suspect, a 22 year old resident of Hebron, was arrested and is being questioned. He was stopped before he managed] to carry out the attack. Security measures by police and border police are on the alert and continue to prevent terror attacks from taking place. UN EXPECTED TO VOTE FOR FUNDING UNHRC BLACKLIST OF COMPANIES WITH TIES TO ISRAEL: The UN Fifth Committee, which oversees the international body’s budget and administration, is expected to vote this week to fund a blacklist of Israeli and international companies operating in Jerusalem, the Golan Heights and Judea & Samaria. The Israeli mission to the UN said the list is expected to be utilized by BDS activists for anti-Israel activities. Israel's Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon said the Israeli Mission will publicly oppose the list and is committed to bringing together international partners and pro-Israel organizations to propose new ideas to combat the initiative. "We will not be silent in light of this shameful initiative," Danon said. "The UN's intent to mark Jewish businesses and international companies with ties to Israel so that they can be boycotted reminds us of dark times in history. The UNHRC has become an anti-Israeli circus with their attacks on the only democracy in the Middle East and their disregard for the gross violations in Iran, Syria and North Korea.” The UN is known for its anti-Israel bias, and days ago passed a series of anti-Israel resolutions during its annual “International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People”. The body’s outgoing chief, Ban Ki-moon, admitted that the UN is biased against Israel during a 2013 session with students participating in a UN educational program. (INN)

WITH IRAN AS TOP PRIORITY, ISRAELI DELEGATION MEETS WITH TRUMP TEAM TO SHARE VIEWS, SET EXPECTATIONS FOR COMING YEARS: A delegation of Israeli officials traveled to the USA and met with members of President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team, Israeli sources reported on 9 Dec. 2016. According to the report, the purpose of the meeting was to start the process of sharing views and setting expectations for the years ahead. The Americans, the report said, were particularly interested in hearing the Israeli government’s positions on a number of key diplomatic and security issues. For Israel, the report noted, the top priority is dealing with the danger posed by Iran. Israeli PM Netanyahu, days ago, reiterated his criticism of the nuclear agreement reached last year between Iran and six world powers. “I look forward to speaking to Trump about what to do about this bad deal.” In a pre-election interview last month, senior Trump adviser David Friedman said a Trump administration would “reengage with the world powers in a way that seeks to reintroduce leverage on Iran.” (Algemeiner)

NEW REPORT: 1,500 ISIS JIHADISTS HAVE QUIT THE MIDDLE EAST TO ATTACK EUROPE: ISIS has sent at least 1,500 jihadi terrorists back to Europe from Middle East warzones with instructions to “carry out attacks”, according to a new European Union report. Experts believe up to 5,000 Islamic fundamentalists have left Europe for Iraq and Syria in recent years. While 1 in 5 have been killed between 30 and 35% have been ordered to return to Europe to carry out “specific missions”. The other 2,500 or so have apparently stayed in the Middle East. The report states: “There are largely two categories of returnees: those in the majority who will drift back and those who will be sent back on specific missions, which are of most concern.” The report says returnees are keeping in touch with ISIS in the Middle East via social media platforms. EU counter-terrorism sources said it is impossible to be certain how many terrorists were already in Europe but indicated that the internet now represents a considerable threat to security. Under the worst case scenario, nuclear power stations and air traffic control systems could be attacked. According to one source although the terrorist organizations have not used the internet as a weapon, to mount an attack thus far, the possibility should not be excluded that “before five years we will be confronted by this.” (Heat Street)

NO HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS: ASSYRIAN CHRISTIANS UNABLE TO RETURN TO VILLAGES DESTROYED BY ISIS: A total of five Assyrian towns in Northern Iraq have been liberated from ISIS, but none of its residents - Christians who were forced to flee from ISIS, are able to return after the terror group left a wake of destruction in its path. As the campaign to liberate Mosul from ISIS rages on, Christian residents of surrounding villages already freed from the terror army's grip have returned to find their homes booby-trapped, in ruins and uninhabitable. In some towns, most of the infrastructure has been reduced to rubble; in others, dangerous chemical compounds have been dumped, polluting the ground. But what all the places have in common is that they are unsafe and nearly impossible for those who fled to return any time soon. “It’s a catastrophe,” said one Assyrian from Bashiqa. Like many from his village, he was forced to flee two years ago for Kurdish-held territory. “ISIS has destroyed it all. God willing, we will return soon." (Fox) Pray for the comforting and protection of persecuted Christians in Iraq and surrounding areas. May their faith stand firm and be a beacon of hope for many adults and children in their nation. “Deliver the poor and needy; free them from the hand of the wicked.” Ps 82:4

STUDENTS AT TEN ITALIAN HIGH SCHOOLS LIST HITLER’S ‘MEIN KAMPF’ AMONG FAVORITE BOOKS: Students at ten Italian high schools included Nazi leader Adolf Hitler’s autobiography Mein Kampf in recently-compiled lists of their top ten favorite books, media sources reported on 8 Dec. 2016. Italian Education Ministry official Alessandro Fusacchia called the students’ choice a “particularly nasty case.” Students had been asked to pick from books by Italian authors that were published after 2000. “We are looking into it, but we are convinced that it was not a bad interpretation of the request, but rather a free choice,” he said. Earlier this year, the Italian newspaper Il Giornale faced criticism after it distributed free copies of an annotated version of Mein Kampf. (Algemeiner)

JNN News Update Dec. 10, 2016

ISRAELI MAP REVEALS THOUSANDS OF HEZBOLLAH POSITIONS ALONG BORDER: The Israeli military on 6 Dec. 2016, posted a map of southern Lebanon to Twitter, on which it marked Hezbollah positions, infrastructure and armaments along a section of the Israeli border. The map features over 200 towns and villages which the organization has turned into its operations bases, and shows over 10,000 potential targets for Israeli strikes in the event of a new war with the terror group. A caption on the photo noted that it had been declassified, in an apparent calculated move by Israel to build a case for any future military action. It could also serve as a warning to the terror group itself, demonstrating Israel’s intelligence gathering capabilities as a deterrent. The same map has been shown to practically every foreign diplomat visiting the Jewish state, to stress the point that while Hezbollah may currently be heavily involved in the Syrian civil war, it continues to arm for conflict with Israel, while embedding itself deeply in the civilian population near the border. (Times of Israel) “Devise your strategy, but it will be thwarted; propose your plan, but it will not stand for God is with us.” Isa 8:10

‘I THINK THERE WILL BE A DRAMATIC CHANGE IN USA-ISRAEL RELATIONS’: Speaking with Israeli media sources this week, former USA ambassador to the UN John Bolton said that there is reason to be optimistic about the incoming Trump administration’s stance regarding Israel. “I think we are leaving the administration that has been the most opposed to Israel in its entire modern history. Trump has made it clear that he will support the rights of the Israeli people to their historic homeland and I don’t think there’s any doubt that there’s going to be an amazing transformation. Trump has already indicated that he wants to move the American embassy to Jerusalem, and I think that finding a way for Israelis to live in peace and security is going to be one of his highest priorities.” Bolton said that the concern of Obama making a final anti-Israel statement before he leaves office is a real one. “I’m very worried about it myself. His hostility to Israel could manifest itself in a number of ways all of which would be fundamentally opposed to American foreign policy. I think it's important that people here in the USA make it clear that such action is unacceptable." (INN) Continue to pray that out-going USA President Obama will make no final detrimental statements or moves against Israel before leaving office.

GOODBYE JOHN KERRY, WE WON’T MISS YOU: Even though his pubic career is about to end--even though the Israeli-Palestinian "peace process" is long dead--even though he has absolutely nothing to gain from it--the 73 year-old Kerry just could not resist unleashing one final blast at Israel. Kerry's disingenuous and mean-spirited attack on Israel on 4 Dec. 2016 served as a powerful reminder of how good it is that he is about to leave office--and how dangerous for Israel it would have been if he had remained as secretary of state. Kerry said he finds it "profoundly disturbing" that many members of the Israel cabinet think a Palestinian state isn't such a great idea. Kerry acts as if Palestinian statehood has been an enshrined part of USA policy since time immemorial. In fact, only two presidents have endorsed Palestinian statehood; it has been part of USA foreign policy for only a very brief time. Future presidents have every right to disagree with the wisdom of that proposal. And certainly Israeli cabinet members have even more of a right to question its wisdom. "There will be no advance and no separate peace with the Arab world without the Palestinian process and Palestinian peace," Kerry absurdly declared. Apparently he has forgotten that Israel already has separate peace treaties with two of the four neighboring Arab states, Egypt and Jordan. Israel does not need a peace treaty with Lebanon, and Israel has nothing to gain from a peace treaty with Syria, since Syria is no longer a functioning state. So what "peace with the Arab world" is Kerry blabbering about? Does Israel really need the recognition of Morocco or Qatar?

Kerry also rambled off into a long denunciation of "the settlements" for supposedly "blocking peace." He said how bothered he was that Israel has ignored his "warnings" about settlements. Maybe one of the reasons Israel has ignored those "warnings" is that Israelis are sick and tired of Kerry's hypocritical lecturing. He never says a word about the massive illegal Palestinian construction in the territories. He acts as if it's a given that a Jew residing in Judea-Samaria or many parts of Jerusalem is illegal and illegitimate while it's perfectly fine for Arabs to build anywhere and everywhere they please. Kerry has repeatedly demonstrated both a poor grasp of the facts and a troubling willingness to harass, threaten, and pressure Israel. Kerry will be remembered as a secretary of state who appeased Palestinian terrorists and tyrants, while lecturing and pressuring America's democratic ally. Goodbye, John Kerry. We won't miss you. (Arutz-7) And this is only a smattering of the valid reasons why John Kerry is considered to be an intense irritation to Israel’s people and government, and a liability in terms of bringing any degree of workable suggestions to the table of middle-east politics.

HOUSE REPORT: USA FACING BIGGEST ISLAMIC TERROR THREAT SINCE 9/11: The United States faces its highest threat from Islamist terrorists since 9/11 and much of that stems from those radicalized at home, according to the House Homeland Security Committee’s December Terror Threat Snapshot released this week. “Make no mistake: we face a deadlier threat than ever before not only because our enemies have gotten savvier, but because we took the pressure off them,” House Homeland Security Chairman Michael McCaul, R-Texas, said in a statement. “For eight years, the Obama Administration reluctantly played global whack-a-mole with terrorists rather than leaning into the fight with decisive leadership.” According to the report, ISIS’ shift in messaging from joining the jihad in Syria and Iraq to carrying out attacks in fighters’ home countries is likely to accelerate the trend of at-home radicalization. At the same time, terrorists are also relying on refugee programs, porous borders, and well-known migration routes to gain access to various countries throughout the West. According to the National Counterterrorism Center, individuals with ties to terrorist groups in Syria are attempting to gain entry to the United States through the USA refugee program, which has resettled nearly 13,000 Syrian refugees across the nation this year. American law enforcement and intelligence officials have repeatedly indicated that the United States lacks credible intelligence to properly vet and screen potential Syrian refugees. (Fox)

GERMAN CHANCELLOR MERKEL’S PARTY LABELS BDS ANTI-SEMITIC: Germany’s Christian Democratic Union party on 7 Nov. 2016, passed a resolution opposing the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement because the anti-Israel action is anti-Semitic. “Who today under the flag of the BDS movement calls to boycott Israeli goods and services speaks the same language in which people were called to not buy from Jews. That is nothing other than coarse anti-Semitism,” the CDU said. The CDU likened BDS to the National Socialists who boycotted Jews in the 1930s. BDS dresses up anti-Semitism in the “new clothes of the 21st century” as anti-Zionism, the party said. “The German CDU declares with this motion its disapproval and rejection of every form of BDS activity and condemns these activities as anti-Semitic. The CDU will decisively oppose every hostile action that Israel faces. The CDU professes its deep friendship toward Israel and continues to work toward a peaceful solution to the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians,” the resolution read. Chancellor Angela Merkel was nominated at the convention to run as the party’s candidate in next year’s federal election. The CDU’s resolution appears to be the first German party motion to reject BDS and classify the anti-Israel movement as anti-Semitic. (J. Post) Another victory against the BDS movement! Thank you, intercessors. Please continue to pray against this wide-spread, anti-Semitic campaign.

RAMALLAH TO NAME STREET AFTER FIDEL CASTRO: The municipality of Ramallah, the seat of the Palestinian Authority, will dedicate a street to the late Cuban dictator Fidel Castro as a “gesture of gratitude. Located six miles north of Jerusalem, Ramallah serves as the de facto administrative capital of the Palestinian Authority, where Arafat established his headquarters, the Muqata. Historically an Arab-Christian town, Muslims now form the majority of the population. Castro’s death at the age of 90 was announced on 25 Nov. 2016 by his brother, Raul, Cuba’s current president. The Fatah party of P.A. President Mahmoud Abbas issued a statement of mourning, claiming Castro was a “world leader and great friend of the Palestinian people.” In 1973, Castro suddenly announced the rupture of relations with Israel and declared its recognition of the Palestinian Liberation Organization. Castro, a brutal dictator who seized power in 1959 and was responsible for murdering and imprisoning thousands, set his country firmly against the Jewish state. Alan Gross, who was imprisoned for five years in Cuba while trying to assist its Jewish community, said following the death of Castro, “History will never absolve him.” (Arutz-7)

BIBLICAL SHEEP IN ISRAEL FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MILLENNIA: The sheep have landed. After three years of high-level negotiations between the Israeli and Canadian governments, 119 heritage sheep, which trace their lineage back 5,000 years to the Middle East, began arriving in Israel on 30 Nov. 2016. It is the first time that the breed, called Jacob’s sheep, has been represented in Israel since biblical times. Three of the 11 flights carrying the sheep have already arrived in Israel, according to Gil and Jenna Lewinsky, the shepherds who began raising these ovines on a whim in western Canada. “It was beautiful to see them walk on the soil of Israel,” she said. “As a Jewish person I am so connected to the land, but to see the whole project connecting — it’s going to stay with me for the rest of my life.” Jenna Lewinsky immigrated to Israel just three weeks before the first flight of sheep came on their own baa-liyah. Genetic markings for the breed date back at least a few thousand years to the Middle East. The journey for the sheep began in ancient Syria (also the biblical home of Laban) and passed through North Africa. Moorish invaders brought the breed to Spain, and then to England, where the animal was something of a trophy sheep. A number were brought to North America, originally for zoos and then later for commercial use. (Times of Israel)

ISRAEL PROVIDES $100 WHEELCHAIRS FOR CHILDREN: Millions of disabled people in the third world lack minimal mobility. Pablo Kaplan of Israel's Keter Plastics set up the Wheelchairs of Hope project to produce wheelchairs for disabled children in Third World countries. Together with engineer Dr. Amir Ziv Av, he developed a lightweight chair that can handle off-road conditions, requires zero maintenance, and is robust and simple to assemble. More importantly, the chair costs just $100. The project's vision is to distribute one million chairs over the next decade. (Times of Israel) "I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.” Gen. 12:2

PILLAR OF CLOUD DEFENDS ISRAEL’S BORDER WITH SYRIA: Amidst increasing ISIS activity on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights, Israeli soldiers stationed there reported that over the weekend a literal pillar of cloud descended on the border. The bizarre storm completely engulfed the Syrian side of the border, but stopped just at the boundary and did not enter Israel. A number of soldiers captured the phenomenon on their cellphones. One video went viral on Facebook, where not a few Israelis labeled the storm as “divine intervention.” “Huge miracle! Notice how God stopped this enormous storm exactly on the border,” wrote Yifat Romano. “Thank you, Father!” Netanel Tanaami wondered, “What more do you need to believe?” “The Creator of the world is protecting us,” proclaimed Nissim Nahoum. (Israel Today) “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’” Ps 92:1-2

ABBAS PRAISES TERRORISTS AGAIN: In a speech on Mon. 5 Dec. 2016, at the Seventh Conference of the Fatah Movement in Ramallah, Mahmoud Abbas, the leader of Fatah, the PLO, and the Palestinian Authority, praised the generations-long Arab struggle against Israel. Abbas mentioned the fedayeen who sacrificed their lives, calling them “heroes” and “brave revolutionary fighters.” The Arab Fedayeen were terrorists who infiltrated Israel to carry our terrorist operations. They operated mostly from Jordan in the 50’s and 60’s and from Lebanon in the 70’s and 80’s. These “brave fighters,” said Abbas, were a “shield for the Palestinians” in Jordan, Lebanon and the “occupied lands” until the current “Al-Quds Intifida,” (the most recent terror wave). Abbas also called the Arab security prisoners “heroes,” though many of them are serving jail sentences for murdering Israelis in terrorist attacks. (Arutz-7) Continue to pray there will be growing numbers of Palestinians who weary of terrorist leaders and their focus on the destruction of Israel and honoring terrorist murderers as role- models for their children - rather than on building better lives for their own citizens.

WHY THE USA FAILED TO ADVANCE ISRAELI –PALESTINIAN PEACE: While Secretary of State John Kerry and President Barack Obama assured Israelis they could afford to take the risk of territorial compromise for the sake of peace, we have watched countries all around us descend into chaos, and seen every unsavory terror group you can name gain footholds in the neighborhood. We have watched Iran grow emboldened and richer, thanks to a lousy accord that did not fully dismantle its rogue nuclear program. We saw Hizbullah fill the vacuum when we left southern Lebanon. We watched Hamas take over when we left Gaza, and we have since endured rocket fire and intermittent conflict as the reward for our withdrawal, even as we have been battered internationally for fighting back. We have witnessed Mahmoud Abbas' Judea & Samaria, Palestinian hierarchy encourage hostility to Israel, lie about our plans for the Temple Mount, and rewrite the previous Muslim narrative that acknowledged the historicity of Jerusalem's Jewish temples in favor of a revisionist creed that denies all Jewish connection to the holy city and thus delegitimizes Israel's very presence. The lesson that Kerry refused to learn, but that his successors would be wise to, is that you cannot broker peace when the people on one side of the negotiating table do not so much as acknowledge the right of the people on the other side to be there. EGYPT FLOODS GAZA TUNNEL, KILLS FOUR: The four men aged 22 to 45 "were found dead after the tunnel they were working in was flooded nine days ago by the Egyptian army," local authorities in the Gazan city of Rafah near Egypt's border said in a statement. Hamas and other groups use such tunnels to smuggle goods into Gaza, as well as to transfer terrorists undetected to neighboring Israeli or Egyptian-controlled areas. The border between Egypt and Gaza has remained largely closed since the 2013 overthrow of Egyptian Islamist president Mohammed Morsi. While the tunnels into Egypt have been used for smuggling, terror tunnels into Israel have been used for attacks, particularly during Operation Protective Edge in the summer of 2014. Hamas alleges Egypt has carried out work to flood the area along its border to destroy tunnels into the Sinai, where Egyptian security forces are also fighting ISIS-linked jihadists. In recent months, at least 20 smugglers and terrorists have died in both terror and smuggling tunnels in the strip of some two million people. A number of terror tunnels have collapsed in recent months. (Arutz-7) The obvious solution to prevent tunnel flooding and cave-ins is for terrorists and smugglers to stop digging tunnels.

DOES A THREEFOLD RISE IN GERMAN ANTI-SEMITISM SIGNAL A ‘NEW ERA’? The world has entered a new era of anti-Semitism, a top European rabbi warned in response to a report released this week about rising anti-Semitism in Germany. A spokesperson for the German Justice Ministry, confirmed to media sources that anti-Semitism in Germany has risen threefold in one year - 2,083 cases of attacks on Jews, Jewish property and hate speech against Jews last year, compared with 691 in 2014. “There is a rejection of mainstream politics, and we need to be aware of the waves of anti-Semitism sweeping across Europe,” Conference of European Rabbis president Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt said. “As a society we must take measures to reject anti-Semitism and ensure that it does not become a new norm.” Josef Schuster, president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, said: “The recent report published by Süddeutsche Zeitung showing that the number of right-wing extremist offenses has risen is indeed worrying. At the same time, the sensitivity of the population and its willingness to report such incidents have apparently also increased. Moreover, the German government actively supports the fight against hate speech, anti-Semitism and sedition in social networks and elsewhere. We highly appreciate the civic and government engagement.” (J.Post)

AS SYRIA BURNS, THE UN AGAIN BASHES ISRAEL: French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault last week demanded an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on the bloodshed in Syria, where Bashar al-Assad is butchering civilians. The Security Council didn't act - but the UN General Assembly managed to pass six resolutions targeting Israel. One of them even calls for putting more people under Assad's thumb, demanding that Israel cede the Golan Heights to Syria. As the Syrian regime kills "its own people by the hundreds of thousands," asks UN Watch's Hillel Neuer, "how can the UN call for more human beings to be placed under Assad's rule?" (NY Post)

IRAN THREATENS TO RESUME ITS NUCLEAR ACTIVITIES: Iran is threatening to resume its nuclear activities which were halted as part of the deal with the West, in response to the United States’ Congress extending the sanctions on the Islamic Republic. A member of the Iranian Parliament’s Presiding Board said 3 Dec. 2016 that the legislature is preparing a motion which would mandate the government to resume nuclear activities halted under the agreement. “The USA and its Congress are the ones who have acted in violation of international law and trampled upon it,” he charged. He emphasized that the motion calls for "the swift, comprehensive and complete" resumption of nuclear activities in Iran. Ranjbarzadeh said Iran would "repeatedly and round the clock declare to the world through its diplomatic apparatus and media that it was Washington which initiated this illegal action and that we (Iran) had no option but retaliation."

This past week, the Senate unanimously voted 99-0 to extend the Iran Sanctions Act (ISA) by ten years. The bill had previously been approved by a vote of 419-1 in the House of Representatives. President Barack Obama is expected to sign the bill into law. The ISA, which was first passed in 1996, enacts sanctions on companies that invest in Iran's energy sector in order to deter the Islamic Republic's pursuit of nuclear weapons. Senior Iranian officials reacted angrily after the House of Representatives passed the extension of the sanctions, saying that doing so goes against the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the official name of the nuclear agreement signed last year between Iran and six world powers. Iran's President Hassan Rouhani on Sunday 4, Dec. 2016 demanded that USA President Barack Obama not sign an extension of USA sanctions on his country. Rouhani said the bill is a violation of a landmark nuclear deal between Iran and world powers. (Arutz-7)

IRAN OPENS AMUSEMENT PARK TO TEACH KIDS TO FIGHT ISRAEL: The City of Games for Revolutionary Children in Mashhad, Iran, is open free of charge to children aged 8 through 13. In the park, the children wear military uniforms and undertake activities simulating fighting the enemies of the Islamic Revolution. At 12 stations, children can launch plastic missiles and fire plastic bullets at targets such as Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, USA and Israeli flags, and members of the Saudi royal family. At the final station, children are blindfolded and asked to throw a ball at a puzzle of an Israeli flag and knock it down. (MEMRI)

LARGE DELEGATION OF AFRICAN AGRICULTURAL MINISTERS VISIT ISRAEL, SIGN OF FLOWERING TIES: In yet another sign of Israel’s blossoming ties with Africa, the 15-nation Economic Community of Western African States (ECOWAS) chose Israel as the site for its first-ever seminar outside of Africa. The three-day agricultural summit, attended by representatives from 13 West African states, began Mon. 05 Dec. 2016 in Jerusalem. The seminar, “Enhancing Sustainable Agricultural Productivity in Arid and Semi-Arid Regions,” includes the agricultural ministers from seven states: Cape Verde, Gambia, Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Togo. In addition senior officials also arrived from Benin, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau and Senegal. ECOWAS represents countries that have a combined population of some 320 million. The seminar, which will introduce the African delegates to Israel agricultural developments, is under the auspices of MASHAV – Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation, and the Ministry of Agriculture. Israel’s ties with ECOWAS received a significant boost late July when the organization’s commissioner, Marcel Alain de Souza, visited Israel. Netanyahu and de Souza signed a joint declaration of intent for greater cooperation between Israel and the organization, and the two discussed deepening their cooperation, particularly in the fields of agriculture, desertification, water, education and health.
