What Is Messianic Music?

What Is Messianic Music?

Newcomers to the Messianic Jewish movement often ask, “What is Messianic music?” The answer can be challenging—even for those who create it. Identify- ing this genre requires examining its origins. Most agree that the early 1970s were a formative pe- riod for Messianic music. Within a short space of time, three pi- oneer groups arose which gave shape to the sound: Lamb, the Liberated Wailing Wall, and Kol Simcha. A fourth group, Israel’s Hope, appeared a decade later, in the 1980s.

Our nation was recently rocked by the violent actions of an delusional and deranged man who deliberately set out to assassinate members of the Republican Party. While political leaders may wield enormous power, and we may not agree with the positions they take; still they are people and as such are as weak and vulnerable as any of us. How do we explain this latest American tragedy? Without question the reason behind the gunman’s violence rests in the continual onslaught of hate speech and rhetoric aimed at Conservatives, Republicans and those who maintain a biblical world view.
In effect, the shooter had been seriously affected by the unabated and incessant flow of rhetoric geared to demonize and dehumanize his political opponents.

In a time before the printing press, newspapers, radio and internet, this same destructive demonizing was used effectively through rancorous words, evil speech. King David writes about this in Psalm 64:3–5:

Hide me from the conspiracy of evildoers, from the tumult of workers of iniquity, who sharpened their tongue like a sword, and aimed their arrow— bitter words, to shoot from hiding at the innocent, shooting suddenly at him, with no fear.

When it comes to being victimized by the “conspiracy of evildoers” or those who shoot “at the innocent,” as Jews, we are no strangers. This same sinister and scandalous hate predicated on falsehood continues to be directed towards Israel and the Jewish people.

Calls for a Two-State Solution along with the never ending accusations condemning Israel for supposed human rights violations has taken a toll as uninformed nations believe these lies, thus fomenting further animus toward Israel.

Fake and falsified information is the standard operating procedure for most of our mainline news sources; eerily similar to the way Russian propaganda controlled all information.

When it comes to The Messianic Times you will not find any phony, fake news but sound factual information coming to you from conservative biblical perspective.

At the present time the paper is working through a transitional period as Rabbi Eric Tokajer has stepped down as our Executive Director. We thank him for his contributions and efforts.

As we move forward with new leadership on the horizon, I can fully assure you that this vital and integral arm of ministry will continually serve our revival movement. News and events taking place through the broad spectrum of Messianic Judaism will be ongoing along with informative features accentuating the vibrancy of God’s redemptive purposes both here and abroad.

We thank you one and all for your continued support for Messianic Judaism’s one and only centralized news source!

Respectfully and thankfully, Rabbi Frank Lowinger

In December 1989, Zev Isaacs called me to tell of his desire to start a Messianic newspaper. I discouraged him on the basis that there was an insufficient market and that it was premature for our movement. Zev said, “That is so hard for me to hear, because I feelI have heard from the Lord.”

Fast forward to December 6, 2006, when I assumed the leadership of this paper for the next six years. What a delight to have been proven wrong! Knowing nothing about newspaper publishing, it soon became apparent that there were three individuals, who were the pillars upon which the paper has stood, through every kind of adversity.

Eschatology and this presidential election

Eschatology and this presidential election

www.onenewsnow.com  Sep. 5, 2016

The head of a messianic Jewish ministry believes a Hillary Clinton presidency could hasten the biblical end-times prophecies.

As OneNewsNow has reported, Israel recently received a severe blow with the revelation that Iran was installing highly sophisticated Russian-made air defense missiles to defend one of its key nuclear sites, making it virtually impossible for Israel to launch a pre-emptive strike against Iran.

Jan Markell, founder and director of Olive Tree Ministries and host of "Understanding the Times" on American Family Radio, blames the John Kerry-brokered Iran nuclear deal for allowing this to happen. And she is afraid of what will happen if Hillary Clinton is allowed to continue the policies of Barack Obama.

"I think that a Hillary Clinton presidency will speed up the end-times scenario," Markell warns. "Some of these activities happen much more quickly, which is perhaps what God has in mind. We don't know the mind of God; we do know that He has things outlined in the Bible that have to happen."

26th Anniversary Arab Christian / Messianic Jewish Fellowship of Southern CA.
On Saturday, June 4, 5:00 pm – 9:30 pm, over 15 Messianic Jewish and Arab Christian congregations and organizations will be sponsoring the Arab Christian/Messianic Jewish Fellowship of Southern, California. It will be at Life Pacific College in Simonson Chapel at 1100 W. Covina Boulevard San Dimas, California  91773 (Use of Life Pacific’s facility doesn’t necessarily constitute support of or endorsement by them.)

This meeting of Arab Christians and Messianic Jews is rather unique outside of Israel. The fellowship shows that the only true answer to peace between Jews and Arabs is Messiah Yeshua. Over the years, the meeting of 400 - 500 people has brought healing and stronger unity between Messianic Jews and Arab Christians. Also, unbelieving Jews and Arabs who have attended the fellowship have seen a powerful witness of what Messiah Yeshua is doing.

This year’s meeting will be the 26th Anniversary meeting of the fellowship which was started in 1988 by Messianic Rabbi Howard Silverman and Arab Christian Pastor Jamil Fakhoury. Some special activities are planned to celebrate this wonderful milestone. There will be anointed  Messianic Jewish and Arab Christian music, joyful Messianic Dance, powerful testimonies by a Messianic Jew (Sally Klein O’Connor) and an Arab Christian, Scripture readings, small group prayer together and fellowship.

Messianic Jews, Arab Christians and lovers of reconciliation between the two are welcome to attend. Also, people are welcome to bring those who are not yet followers of Yeshua but are open to such a meeting. No advance reservations are required. There is no charge to attend, but a love offering will be taken at the meeting to cover the expenses. Childcare will be provided for children up to eight years old. During the middle of the evening, there will be a free oneg consisting of a Middle Eastern, Vegetarian Falafel and drink.

SWU choice of venue prompts controversy
www.sdjewishworld.com   April 19, 2016

SAN DIEGO – Swirling beneath the planned May 4 appearance of Pastor Dumisani Washington, a leading African-American advocate for the State of Israel is controversy over the relationship between the Jewish community and the Christians who seek to convert us.  Washington’s appearance, sponsored by the pro-Israel organization StandWithUs, is scheduled May 4 in  Rancho San Diego at the Skyline Church.

No one accuses Washington of wanting to convert Jews, but Skyline Church, a mega-church at which he will be speaking, includes the Tree of Life Messianic Jewish Congregation, part of a Christian movement that tells Jews that they can believe in Jesus as their savior and still be Jews.

The executive director of StandWithUs, Roz Rothstein, told San Diego Jewish World that her organization “does not partner on events directly with Messianic Congregations. Sometimes, however, the Christian partners we work with (because they love and honor Israel), may have their own association with members of a Messianic Congregation. In this particular case, we are holding an event (with a Christian Pastor) at a Christian church that wants to educate its congregation about Israel, and which also happens to have their own affiliation with a Messianic group, unrelated to the work of StandWithUs.”

Messianic Jewish group lobbying for '1-state solution'
Bible is 'Israel's title deed to the land'

www.wnd.com   April 9, 2016

The Messianic Jewish movement has opened a lobbying office in Washington, D.C., that will push the U.S. government to support Israel and ditch the so-called “two-state solution” that has been promoted by Republican and Democrat administrations for decades.

The Alliance for Israel Advocacy will take a different approach to lobbying Congress than any other organization, says the man heading up the effort.

Paul Liberman, executive director of AIA, is leader of Ohav Shalom Messianic Congregation in Palm Springs, California, and the former publisher of the Messianic Times. He formerly worked as the U.S. Department of Commerce’s director of congressional relations under Presidents Nixon, Ford and Carter and has been active in Republican politics since that time.

Messianic Jews believe that Jesus Christ is the Jewish Messiah and represent a small but unique segment of evangelical Christianity.

Barry Segal—Bringing Messianic Melodies to Ohio This Shabbat
International speaker and leading Messianic recording artist, Barry Segal is on his way to Cleveland, Ohio, to share spicy Middle Eastern sounds mixed with the smooth modern world melodies of his musical stylings in a special one-day event.

Tikvat Israel Messianic Synagogue located in Lyndhurst, Ohio, is hosting a Messianic Jewish Worship Concert featuring the acclaimed member of the husband-wife duo, Barry and Batya. Your chance to experience their music live, in person will be this Shabbat, Saturday, March 19, 2016, at 10:30 a.m.

With hits like, “On Your Walls O Jerusalem” and “Esa Einai” Barry and Batya Segal are not only one of Israel's leading Messianic recording artists but well-loved and known internationally for their ability to proclaim the Word of God in their music.

Blending rhythmic praise with ethnic overtones and mixing the Hebrew and English languages, the music of Barry and Batya’s albums, such as “Sh'ma Yisrael,” “Day 7” and “Go Through the Gates" will create in you a new and passionate expression of worship towards "The Holy One of Israel.”

But—music isn’t all Barry does. He is a journalist and the host and producer of the television series Roots & Reflections as well as the President and co-founder of Vision for Israel, a non-profit organization at the forefront of what God is doing in Israel and the nations. This ministry was created by the Segals in 1994 out of the desire to help build and restore the Land, and freely provides aid to the poor and needy people, both Jewish and Arab, living in the nation of Israel today through The Joseph Storehouse, an international humanitarian aid center operating in the Judean Hills just outside of Jerusalem.

Barry grew up in the USA and discovered Yeshua (Jesus) when he was a young musician living a colorful lifestyle in Detroit and Cleveland. Returning to Ohio for this special praise and worship event at Tikvat Israel is a full-circle event that you will not want to miss.

Visit tikvatcleveland.org to learn more about attending this event and stop by visionforisrael.com to sample some of the musical stylings of the Segals and to find out more about what Vision for Israel has planned for the rest of the year .
U.S. in the business of terrorist rehab?
www.onenewsnow.com   March 14, 2016

The head of a Messianic Jewish ministry doesn't agree with the plan of a district judge to allow four terrorists to go through a "de-radicalization" program.

According to The Star Tribune, U.S. District Judge Michael Davis has ordered four Twin-Cities area men facing federal terrorism charges to participate in a first-of-a-kind de-radicalization program. This will be facilitated under the supervision of Davis and a German expert on Islamic terrorism, who will visit Minnesota next month.

The defendants — who face potentially long prison sentences — have pleaded guilty to federal charges of conspiracy to provide material support to the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant.

Davis says an evaluation by the German scholar would help him understand their motives — and their potential for rehabilitation.
